The SONY RMT-VP2 WW030588 remote commander has the following parts:

1. Indicator: Indicates the camera’s operational state in accordance with the remote commander operation.

2. Shutter button: Releases the camera shutter. Press halfway to focus, and all the way down to shoot.

3. MOVIE button: Starts and stops movie recording with the camera.

5. Zoom/Focus button: Zooms in/out or adjusts camera focus, depending on the switch setting.

6. C1 button*: Activates the function assigned to the C1 button on the camera, if available.

7. ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch: Sets the function of the Zoom/Focus button to ZOOM, FOCUS, or LOCK (disabled).

8. Battery cover: Covers the battery compartment.

9. Battery cover locking latch: Secures the battery cover.

10. Battery cover turning knob: Used to open and close the battery cover.

*The AF-ON and C1 buttons activate the corresponding function assigned on the camera. For details, refer to the Help Guide of your camera.

The GP-VPT3 main unit has the following parts:

1. Flip button: Flips around the mounted camera by 90-degree increments.

2. Angle adjusting button: Adjusts the tilt angle of the grip.

3. Remote commander: The SONY RMT-VP2 WW030588 unit, which can be detached.

4. Grip/tripod: The main body that can be held or set up as a tripod.

5. Strap holder: For attaching a commercially available wrist strap.

6. Camera mounting screw: Attaches to the tripod hole on the camera.

7. Camera mounting wheel: Tightens the camera onto the grip.

8. Adjustment wheel: Adjusts the feel of the resistance when changing the tilt angle of the grip.

The SONY RMT-VP2 WW030588 remote commander is equipped with a built-in Bluetooth antenna at the top section, above the indicator light. When you operate the remote commander, keep your hand away from this section to prevent a possible Bluetooth connection failure.

The supplied lithium coin cell battery is installed at the time of purchase. Before first use, you must open the battery cover and remove the insulating sheet.

To open the battery cover and prepare for first use:

1. If using a GP-VPT3, first detach the remote commander from the main unit.

2. On the back of the remote commander, slide the battery cover locking latch in the direction of the arrow.

3. While holding the latch, lift the battery cover turning knob.

4. Rotate the knob counterclockwise toward “OPEN”.

5. Open the battery cover and remove the insulating sheet.

6. Close the battery cover and turn the knob until you reach “CLOSE” to lock it.

To insert or replace the battery:

1. Open the battery cover as described above.

2. To remove an old battery, take it out towards you, as shown by the arrow in the illustration in the user manual.

3. To insert a new battery, ensure that the + side of the battery is facing upward. The + on the battery chamber indicates the correct direction.

4. Close the battery cover and turn the knob until you reach “CLOSE.”

Before establishing a Bluetooth connection, you must pair the unit with the camera. Make sure that the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch on the unit is NOT set to the “LOCK” position.

1. On your camera, navigate to MENU → (network) → [Bluetooth] → [Bluetooth Function] → [On].

2. On your camera, navigate to MENU → (network) → [Bluetooth] → [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] → [On]. If the pairing screen appears on the camera’s screen, proceed to step 4.

3. On your camera, navigate to MENU → (network) → [Bluetooth] → [Pairing].

4. On the SONY RMT-VP2 WW030588, press and hold the MOVIE button and the C1 button simultaneously for at least 3 seconds.

5. When a confirmation message appears on the camera’s screen, select [OK]. The model name “RMT-VP2” will appear on the camera screen.

The pairing is complete, and the unit is now connected to the camera via Bluetooth.

Notes on pairing:

• If pairing fails, the indicator on the remote will flash rapidly. If this happens, start again from step 3.

• You need to perform pairing again if you operate another camera with this unit or if you reset the camera’s network settings.

On the camera, select MENU → (network) → [Bluetooth] → [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] and make sure that [On] is selected.

Note: Depending on your camera, certain functions may be disabled when [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] is set to [On]. These can include:

• Power-saving mode

• Infrared remote commander

If you want to use these functions, set [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] to [Off] after using the SONY RMT-VP2 WW030588. For more information, refer to the Help Guide for your camera.

Attaching and Detaching the Remote Commander:

• To attach: Insert the SONY RMT-VP2 WW030588 remote commander into its compartment on the main unit, starting from the tip, and push it in until you hear a click. Be careful not to pinch your fingers.

• To detach: Put your fingers in the notches on the main unit, grab both sides of the remote commander, and pull it up.

Mounting a Camera:

1. Install the battery pack and a memory card in the camera before mounting.

2. Fit the camera mounting screw on the grip into the tripod screw hole on the bottom of the camera.

3. Turn the camera mounting wheel to secure the camera. Be careful not to drop the camera or the grip.

Adjusting the Angle and Direction:

• To adjust the tilt angle: Press and hold the angle adjusting button. Adjust the grip to the desired angle (in 10-degree increments) and release the button. Ensure the button rises back into position to lock the grip.

• To adjust the resistance: Turn the adjustment wheel. Tighten it for heavier cameras to prevent tilting, or loosen it for lighter cameras. Do not overtighten.

• To change the facing direction: Press the flip button to flip the camera around in 90-degree increments.

Shooting Styles:

• Hand-held grip: Hold the grip in your hand for shooting.

• Tripod: Open the legs of the unit to use it as a tripod on a flat surface. Spread the legs to their full extent.

• Detached remote: Detach the SONY RMT-VP2 WW030588 to operate the camera from a distance.

To disable the remote commander and prevent accidental operations, especially while carrying the unit, turn the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch to the “LOCK” position. This will disable all buttons on the remote commander.

To re-enable the remote, set the switch back to the “ZOOM” or “FOCUS” position.

To shoot a still image with the SONY RMT-VP2 WW030588 connected to a camera via Bluetooth:

1. Press the Shutter button halfway down to focus. The indicator on the remote turns on when the camera is in focus using the auto focus function.

2. Press the Shutter button all the way down to shoot. The indicator will also turn on when a shot is successfully taken.

To shoot a movie with the SONY RMT-VP2 WW030588 connected to a camera via Bluetooth:

1. Press the MOVIE button to start recording. When shooting starts, the indicator on the remote turns on.

2. To stop shooting, press the MOVIE button once again. When shooting stops, the indicator turns off.

1. Set the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch on the remote commander to the “ZOOM” position.

2. Press the Zoom/Focus button to zoom in or out.

• Press the T (Telephoto) end of the button to zoom in on a subject.

• Press the W (Wide-angle) end of the button to zoom out on a subject.

Pressing the button deeply speeds up the zooming, though some camera models may not support this function. The zoom function works with a camera or lens featuring a built-in electronic power zoom. If the digital zoom function of the camera is turned on, digital zooming will be performed.

You can adjust the camera’s focus with the remote only when the camera is set to manual focus mode.

1. Set the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch on the remote commander to the “FOCUS” position.

2. Press the Zoom/Focus button to adjust the focus.

• Press the ∞ (infinity symbol) end of the button to focus on a distant subject.

• Press the NEAR end of the button to focus on a close subject.

By pressing the C1 or AF-ON button on the SONY RMT-VP2 WW030588, you can activate the function assigned to the camera’s corresponding C1 or AF-ON button. For details about the camera’s C1 or AF-ON button settings, refer to the Help Guide of your camera.

Note that depending on the camera you are using, the C1 button, the AF-ON button, or both may not be available.

If your SONY RMT-VP2 WW030588 remote commander does not work, check the following:

Check the Bluetooth settings on the camera:

• [Bluetooth Function] may be set to [Off]. On the camera, select MENU → (network) → [Bluetooth] → [Bluetooth Function] and make sure that [On] is selected.

• [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] may be set to [Off]. On the camera, select MENU → (network) → [Bluetooth] → [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] and make sure that [On] is selected.

Check the settings on the remote commander unit:

• The remote commander may be disabled. Set the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch on the unit to the “ZOOM” or “FOCUS” position.

• The pairing with the camera may be lost. Pair this unit with the camera all over again.

• The battery in this unit may be worn out. Replace the battery with a new one.

General Safety:

• To avoid fire or electric shock, do not disassemble, alter, or use the unit with wet hands. Do not allow water or foreign matter to enter the unit.

• This is a precision equipment. Do not drop, hit, or subject it to strong physical impact.

Grip/Tripod (GP-VPT3) Usage:
