The SONY GP-VPT3 WW030588 consists of a main unit (Grip/Tripod) and a detachable remote commander.

Main unit parts:

1. Flip button: Flips around the mounted camera. For details, see “Adjusting the angle and direction (GP-VPT3).”

2. Angle adjusting button: Adjusts the angle of the grip. For details, see “Adjusting the angle and direction (GP-VPT3).”

3. Remote commander: The remote commander for this unit is the same as RMT-VP2.

8. Adjustment wheel: Adjusts feel of the resistance when changing the angle of the grip.

Remote commander parts:

1. Indicator: Indicates the camera’s operational state in accordance with the remote commander operation.

2. Shutter button: Releases the camera shutter.

3. MOVIE button: Starts recording a movie with the camera.

4. AF-ON button: Activates the function assigned to the AF-ON button on the camera, if the camera has this button.

5. Zoom/Focus button: Zooms in/out the camera or adjusts the camera focus. Set the remote commander’s ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch to the “ZOOM” or “FOCUS” position suitable for your purpose.

6. C1 button: Activates the function assigned to the C1 button on the camera, if the camera has this button.

7. ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch: When the switch is set to the “LOCK” position, the remote commander is disabled to prevent accidental operation of the camera. It is recommended to set the switch to the “LOCK” position when this unit is not in use to reduce battery consumption.

The remote commander is equipped with a built-in Bluetooth antenna at the top section, above the indicator light. When you operate the remote commander, keep your hand away from this section to prevent a possible Bluetooth connection failure.

The number in the parentheses indicates the quantity. If you find anything missing, please contact your dealer.

Improper attachment or detachment may cause the remote commander to fall, leading to accidents, injuries, or damage to the unit.

To attach the remote commander:

Insert the remote commander (①) into the remote commander compartment of the main unit, starting from the tip, and push it in until you hear a click (②). Be careful not to pinch your fingers when attaching the remote commander.

To detach the remote commander:

Put your fingers in the notches (①) on the main unit, grab both sides of the remote commander, and pull it up (②).

Note: When using this unit, or when lifting or carrying it, always hold it by the grip/tripod. If you use or lift it by holding only the remote commander, the remote commander may be detached from the grip/tripod, causing the camera to fall and possibly resulting in an accident or injury.

The supplied lithium coin cell battery (CR2032) is installed in the remote commander at the time of purchase. You must open the battery cover and remove the insulating sheet before use. If using the GP-VPT3, detach the remote commander from the main unit first.

Removing the insulating sheet:

1. Turn the battery cover on the back of the remote commander toward “OPEN.” While sliding the battery cover locking latch in the direction of the arrow (①), lift the battery cover turning knob (②), and then rotate it counterclockwise (③).

2. Open the battery cover and remove the insulating sheet.

3. Turn the battery cover until you reach “CLOSE.”

To insert the battery:

When inserting the battery, ensure that the + side of the battery is facing upward. The + on the battery chamber indicates the direction of the battery.

To remove the battery:

Take out the battery towards you, as shown by the arrow in the illustration in the manual.

Before establishing a Bluetooth connection, you must pair the unit with the camera. Make sure the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch on the unit is NOT set to the “LOCK” position beforehand.

1. On the camera, select MENU → (network) → [Bluetooth] → [Bluetooth Function] → [On].

2. On the camera, select MENU → (network) → [Bluetooth] → [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] → [On]. If the pairing screen appears on the camera’s screen, proceed to step 4.

3. On the camera, select MENU → (network) → [Bluetooth] → [Pairing].

4. On the SONY GP-VPT3 WW030588 remote, press and hold the MOVIE button and the C1 button simultaneously for at least 3 seconds.

5. When a confirmation message appears on the camera’s screen, select [OK].

The pairing is complete, and the unit is now connected to the camera via a Bluetooth connection. When pairing, the model name of the remote commander “RMT-VP2” will appear on the camera screen.

Note:

• If pairing fails, the indicator on this unit flashes rapidly. If this happens, start again from step 3.

• You need to perform pairing again in the following cases:

– When operating another camera with this unit. (If you want to use the original camera again, you will need to pair it again.)

– When resetting the camera’s network settings.

On the camera, select MENU → (network) → [Bluetooth] → [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] and make sure that [On] is selected.

Note: Depending on the camera you are using, the following functions cannot be used when [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] is set to [On]. If you want to use these functions, set [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] to [Off]. For information about the camera’s functions, refer to the Help Guide of your camera.

Install the battery pack and a memory card in the camera before mounting it to the unit.

1. Fit the camera mounting screw on this unit into the tripod screw hole on the bottom of the camera (①).

2. Turn the camera mounting wheel to secure the camera (②).

Note:

• Be careful not to drop the camera or the unit.

• When you are finished with using this unit, remove it from the camera and keep it in the supplied pouch. Before removing the unit from the camera, set the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch to the “LOCK” position.

You can adjust the tilt angle of the grip or the facing direction of the camera mounted on the unit.

To adjust the tilt angle of the grip:

1. Press and hold the angle adjusting button (①) and release the button when the grip is adjusted to the desired angle (②). You can change the tilt angle of the grip by 10 degrees. Before you press the angle adjusting button, be sure to hold the camera with your hand in case it tilts all at once. Do not change the angle of the grip by force without pressing the angle adjusting button.

2. Make sure that the angle adjusting button rises back into position to indicate that the grip is locked at the desired angle.

To adjust the feel of the resistance when changing the angle of the grip:

Turn the adjustment wheel (①).

• If the camera mounted on this unit is heavy, it may tilt all at once. To avoid this, it is recommended that you tighten the adjustment wheel (by turning it clockwise).

• If the camera is light, it is easier to adjust the tilt angle when the adjustment wheel is loose.

• Do not tighten the adjustment wheel excessively. If it is excessively tightened, you can use a coin or an equivalent to loosen it.

To change the facing direction of the camera:

By pressing the flip button (①), you can flip around the camera (②). Each time you press the button, the camera flips by 90 degrees.

Note: Depending on the tilt angle of the grip, the remote commander may be blocked and become inoperable. In such a case, readjust the tilt angle of the grip.

You can disable the remote commander to prevent accidental camera operations that may occur while carrying the unit along with the camera.

1. Turn the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch to the “LOCK” position.

To enable the remote commander, set the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch to the “ZOOM” or “FOCUS” position.

For camera shooting, you can use the SONY GP-VPT3 WW030588 in several ways:

• Hold the grip in your hand for handheld shooting.

• Use it as a tripod by opening the legs of the unit.

• Detach the remote commander from the main unit and use it separately to operate the camera from a distance.

Notes:

• When using this unit, or when lifting or carrying it, always hold it by the grip/tripod.

• When using this unit as a tripod, spread its legs to full extent and place the unit on a flat surface. Depending on the tilt angle of the grip head or the mounted camera, the unit may lose its balance and wobble. Do not use the unit if it wobbles.

To use a strap (commercially available):

You can attach a strap to the strap holder on the unit. When using the strap, put it around your wrist as shown in the illustration, and then hold the grip. Always hold the grip/tripod section, not just the strap. Do not subject the unit to strong shocks or vibrations.

Operate this unit that has a Bluetooth connection with a camera to shoot a still image.

1. Press the Shutter button (①).

Press the button halfway down to focus, and then press it all the way down to shoot. The indicator on this unit turns on when:

• The camera is in focus using the auto focus function

• A shot is successfully taken

Operate this unit that has a Bluetooth connection with a camera to shoot a movie.

1. Press the MOVIE button (①).

Movie shooting starts. To stop shooting, press the MOVIE button once again. When shooting starts, the indicator on this unit turns on. When shooting stops, the indicator turns off.

Operate this unit that has a Bluetooth connection with a camera to zoom in/out the camera.

1. Set the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch to the “ZOOM” position.

2. Press the Zoom/Focus button (①).

• Press the T (Telephoto) end of the button to zoom in on a subject.

• Press the W (Wide-angle) end of the button to zoom out on a subject.

Pressing the Zoom/Focus button deeply speeds up the zooming. Depending on the camera you are using, some models may not support this function.

Note:

• The zoom speed varies depending on the camera or lens.

• The zoom function works with a camera or lens featuring a built-in electronic power zoom. If the digital zoom function of the camera is turned on, digital zooming will be performed.

You can adjust the camera’s focus with this unit only when the camera is set to manual focus mode.

1. Set the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch to the “FOCUS” position.

2. Press the Zoom/Focus button (①).

• Press the ∞ (infinity symbol) end of the button to focus on a distant subject.

• Press the NEAR end of the button to focus on a close subject.

The indicator on this unit lights up or blinks as follows, depending on the remote commander operation, as well as the camera’s operation and status.

Lights	• when the camera is in focus using the auto focus function • when you shoot a still image or start recording by pressing the Shutter button • while movie shooting is in progress • when the camera receives zoom/focus signals from this unit
Flashes	• while pairing is in progress • while the self-timer is in operation
Flashes rapidly	• when the camera fails to receive remote operation signals from this unit • when pairing fails • when the battery level is low and the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch is set to the “ZOOM” or “FOCUS” position

By pressing the C1 or AF-ON button on this unit, you can activate the function assigned to the camera’s C1 or AF-ON button. For details about the camera’s C1 or AF-ON button, refer to the Help Guide of your camera.

Depending on the camera you are using, the C1 button, the AF-ON button, or both may not be available.

To avoid the risk of a fire or an electric shock, observe the following:

• Do not disassemble or alter this unit.

• Do not use this unit with wet hands.

• Do not allow ingress of water or foreign matters (metal, flammable substances, etc.) to this unit.

To avoid the risk of damage or a malfunction, observe the following:

• This unit is precision equipment. Do not drop the unit, hit it, or subject it to a strong physical impact.

• Do not touch the electrical contacts on this unit with bare hands.

• Do not use or store this unit in a place subject to high temperatures and humidity.

• When using this unit outdoors, keep the unit from exposure to rain or seawater.

• Although this unit is designed and built to be dustproof and drip-proof, it cannot completely prevent the ingress of dust or water droplets.

• When using this unit in an aircraft or a hospital, follow the instructions from the airline company or the hospital to avoid possible interference with instruments or medical devices caused by radio waves from this unit.

• If the total weight of the mounted camera and attached accessories exceeds the maximum weight limit of this unit, the unit may fall over, resulting in damage.

• Be sure to mount your camera securely to this unit. Also, when shooting while holding the grip/tripod, be sure to hold it firmly. Dropping the camera or the unit could result in accidents or injuries.

• Do not swing this unit around while a camera is mounted on it.

• Depending on the camera mounted on this unit, the camera’s screen may not fully open due to interference with the grip head. If this happens, do not force the screen open.

• When adjusting the tilt angle of the grip/tripod or the facing direction of the camera, be sure to hold the camera or its lens with your hand.

• Always hold it by the grip/tripod when using, lifting, or carrying. Holding only the remote commander may cause it to detach, leading to a fall.

• Be careful not to pinch your fingers when attaching the remote commander, opening/closing the tripod, or adjusting the angle of the grip.

• When using as a tripod, spread its legs to full extent on a flat surface. If the unit wobbles, do not use it.

• Do not use this unit in a place subject to blowing wind or vibration to avoid the risk of falling over.

• Do not ingest battery, chemical burn hazard. This unit contains a coin/button cell battery.

• If the coin/button cell battery is swallowed, it can cause severe internal burns in just 2 hours and can lead to death.

• Keep new and used batteries away from children. If the battery cover does not close securely, stop using the product and keep it away from children.

• If you think batteries might have been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.

• Make sure that the battery is worn out before disposal. To dispose of the battery, insulate the battery contacts with an adhesive strip.

• If the battery fluid leaks, wipe away any fluid on the battery chamber before inserting a new battery. If the battery fluid comes in contact with your body or clothing, thoroughly rinse it away with water.

• Depending on the length of the post production period, even a new battery may have a shorter life.

Places to avoid for usage and storage:

Avoid places exposed to direct sunlight or near heat sources. Storing or using the unit in such places may cause discoloration, deformation, or malfunction.

Notes on cleaning:

Clean this unit surface with a soft cloth slightly moistened with water, then wipe the surface with a dry cloth. To prevent damage to the finish:

• Do not expose this unit to chemical products such as thinner, benzine, alcohol, disposable cloths, insect repellent, sunscreen or insecticide.

• Do not touch this unit with any of the above on your hand.

• Do not leave this unit in contact with rubber or vinyl for a long time.

If the remote commander does not work, check the following:

Check the Bluetooth settings on the camera:

• [Bluetooth Function] may be set to [Off] on the camera. On the camera, select MENU → (network) → [Bluetooth] → [Bluetooth Function] and make sure that [On] is selected.

• [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] may be set to [Off] on the camera. On the camera, select MENU → (network) → [Bluetooth] → [Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl] and make sure that [On] is selected.

Check the settings on the SONY GP-VPT3 WW030588 unit:

• The remote commander may be disabled. Set the ZOOM/FOCUS/LOCK switch on this unit to the “ZOOM” or “FOCUS” position.

• The pairing with the camera may be lost. Pair this unit with the camera all over again.

• The battery in this unit may be worn out. Replace the battery with a new one.
