What parts are included for installation and connections?

The following parts are included for installation and connections:

Part 1: Power supply leads (1)

Part 2: Mounting screws (M5 × 8) (2)

Part 3: Release key (2)

Part 4: Sleeve (1)

Part 5: Frame (1)

Part 6: Part for mounting (Toyota/Nissan) (2)

What cautions should be followed during installation?

• This unit is designed for negative ground 12 V DC operation only.

• Do not get the leads under a screw, or caught in moving parts (e.g., seat railing).

• Before making connections, turn the car ignition off to avoid short circuits.

• Connect the yellow and red power supply leads only after all other leads have been connected.

• Be sure to insulate any loose unconnected leads with electrical tape for safety.

• Run all ground leads to a common ground point.

What are the specific instructions for connecting the yellow power supply lead?

When connecting this unit in combination with other stereo components, the connected car circuit’s rating must be higher than the sum of each component’s fuse.

When no car circuits are rated high enough, connect the unit directly to the battery.

What are the important notes regarding the control and power supply leads?

• The power antenna control lead (blue) supplies +12 V DC when you turn on the tuner.

• When your car has a built-in FM/AM antenna in the rear/side glass, you must connect the power antenna control lead (blue) or the accessory power supply lead (red) to the power terminal of the existing antenna booster.

• A power antenna without a relay box cannot be used with this unit.

• The illumination control lead (orange) is connected to the car’s illumination switch. If you do not connect this lead, the button illumination will not turn on.

• The telephone ATT lead (blue/white striped) is connected to the MUTE lead of the car phone. When a call is received, the audio sound is muted.

• When using an optional power amplifier, connect the remote control lead (blue/white striped) to the AMP REMOTE IN of the amplifier.

• If your power antenna has no relay box, connection of this unit with the antenna is not possible.

• Remember to connect the ground lead before connecting the amplifier.

How do I wire the components according to the connection diagram?

Speaker Connections:

• Front speaker (left): White lead to (+), White/black striped lead to (-).

• Front speaker (right): Gray lead to (+), Gray/black striped lead to (-).

• Rear speaker (left): Green lead to (+), Green/black striped lead to (-).

• Rear speaker (right): Purple lead to (+), Purple/black striped lead to (-).

Power and Control Connections:

Red lead: To the +12 V power terminal which is energized in the accessory position of the ignition switch. If there is no accessory position, connect to the always-on +12 V power terminal. Ensure the black ground lead is connected to a metal surface first.

Yellow lead: To the +12 V power terminal which is energized at all times. Ensure the black ground lead is connected to a metal surface first.

Black lead: To a metal surface of the car (ground).

Blue lead: To the power antenna control terminal or antenna booster amplifier power supply. Not needed if you don’t have a power antenna.

Orange lead: To the car’s light switch terminal.

Blue/white striped lead: To the AMP REM terminal of an optional power amplifier, or to the cellular phone system for audio muting (grounding type).

Input/Output Connections:

LINE OUT (FRONT/REAR): Connect to an optional power amplifier.

BUS AUDIO IN (L/R): For bus audio input.

BUS CONTROL IN: To the BUS CONTROL IN terminal of a CD/MD changer.

ANTENNA IN: To the car antenna.

Important Notes on Connections:

• Use speakers with an impedance of 4 to 8 ohms and adequate power handling.

• The AMP REM lead outputs +12 V DC when the unit is on. If not using a power amplifier, this lead can serve as a power antenna control lead, making the blue lead connection unnecessary.

• A passive subwoofer like the XS-L101P5/L121P5 can be used without an external amplifier. Other models require an active subwoofer or a passive one with an external amplifier.

• Do not connect speaker system terminals to the car chassis or bridge the right and left speaker terminals.

• Do not connect the unit’s ground lead to the speaker’s negative (-) terminal.

• Check your car’s speaker wiring before connecting.

• Connect the ground lead before the amplifier.

• Arrange leads to not interfere with driving.

• Using speaker outputs for an external amplifier’s line input may cause noise.

• This unit has a cooling fan for its power IC. Do not block the fan opening.

What are the dimensions of the unit and the required mounting opening?

Unit Dimensions (approx.): 178 × 50 × 176 mm (w/h/d)

Mounting Dimensions (approx.): 182 × 53 mm (w/h)

The nose piece protrudes 18 mm from the front surface.

How do I mount the unit in the dashboard?

1. Detach the frame and the sleeve from the unit.

2. Insert the sleeve into the dashboard, then bend the claws outward for a tight fit.

3. Mount the unit into the sleeve, then attach the frame.

What precautions should be taken when choosing a mounting location?

• Choose the mounting location carefully so that the unit will not interfere with normal driving operations.

• Avoid installing the unit in areas subject to dust, dirt, excessive vibration, or high temperatures, such as in direct sunlight or near heater ducts.

• Use only the supplied mounting hardware for a safe and secure installation.

How do I adjust the mounting angle?

Adjust the mounting angle to less than 45°.

What is the purpose of the frequency select switch and how is it used?

The frequency select switch is used to improve AM reception in certain areas. Set the switch to the appropriate position based on your region:

9 kHz: For Asia, Europe, or other areas.

10 kHz: For North/Central/South America.

Note: When the frequency interval is changed, the preset radio stations are erased.

How do I mount the unit in a Toyota or Nissan?

To mount the unit in the factory radio mounting brackets of a Toyota or Nissan car, use the supplied parts for mounting (part 6) to fix the unit. Use the mounting screws (part 2) supplied with this unit. Note that the mounting holes may differ depending on the car model.

What should I do if my car’s ignition does not have an ACC position?

If your car has no ACC position, be sure to set the Auto Off function. The unit will shut off completely and automatically in the set time after the unit is turned off, which prevents battery drain. If you do not set the Auto Off function, press and hold OFF until the display disappears each time you turn the ignition off to prevent battery drain.

When and how should I use the RESET switch?

After installation is completed, or when you replace the car battery, you must press the RESET button. Use a pointed object, such as a ball-point pen, to press it. Pressing the RESET button will erase the clock setting and some of the memorized contents.
