Before installing your SONY CDX-GT45IPM, please observe the following precautions:

• This unit is designed for negative ground 12 V DC operation only.

• Do not install the unit in a car that has no ACC (accessory) position on the ignition key switch.

• Run all ground leads to a common ground point.

• Do not get the leads trapped under a screw or caught in moving parts (e.g., seat railing).

• Before making connections, turn the car ignition off to avoid short circuits.

• Connect the yellow and red power supply leads only after all other leads have been connected.

• Be sure to insulate any loose, unconnected leads with electrical tape for safety.

• Choose the installation location carefully so that the unit will not interfere with normal driving operations.

• Avoid installing the unit in areas subject to dust, dirt, excessive vibration, or high temperatures, such as in direct sunlight or near heater ducts.

• Use only the supplied mounting hardware for a safe and secure installation.

The following parts are supplied with your SONY CDX-GT45IPM:

• Front panel (1)

• Power supply cord (1)

• Release keys (2)

• Screws (4)

Notes:

• The numbers in the list are keyed to the parts used in the installation instructions.

• The bracket and protection collar are attached to the unit before shipping. Before mounting the unit, use the release keys to remove the bracket and the protection collar from the unit.

• Keep the release keys in a safe place for future use as they are also necessary if you remove the unit from your car.

Follow these steps for the main electrical connections:

• To a metal surface of the car: First connect the black ground lead, then connect the yellow and red power supply leads.

• To the power antenna (aerial) control lead or power supply lead of the antenna booster: It is not necessary to connect this lead if there is no power antenna or antenna booster, or with a manually-operated telescopic antenna. Connecting the AMP REMOTE IN of an optional power amplifier to this lead prevents battery drain.

• To an unused terminal: Find an unused terminal in the car’s fuse box that receives power when the ignition key is turned to the ACC position. Connect the red power supply lead to it. If there is no ACC position, connect it to the +12 V power terminal (battery). Be sure to set the Auto Off function in this case.

• To the +12 V power terminal which is energized at all times: First connect the black ground lead to a metal surface of the car. Then connect the yellow power supply lead.

Notes on the power supply cord (yellow):

• When connecting this unit in combination with other stereo components, the connected car circuit’s amperage rating must be higher than the sum of each component’s fuse.

• When no car circuits are rated high enough, connect the unit directly to the battery.

Notes on speaker connections:

• Before connecting the speakers, turn the unit off.

• Use speakers with an impedance of 4 to 8 ohms, and with adequate power handling capacities to avoid damage.

• Do not connect the speaker terminals to the car chassis, or connect the terminals of the right speakers with those of the left speaker.

• Do not connect the ground lead of this unit to the negative (-) terminal of the speaker.

• Do not attempt to connect the speakers in parallel.

• Connect only passive speakers. Connecting active speakers (with built-in amplifiers) to the speaker terminals may damage the unit.

• To avoid a malfunction, do not use the built-in speaker leads that are installed in your car if the unit shares a common negative (-) lead for the right and left speakers.

• Do not connect the unit’s speaker leads to each other.

When the yellow power supply lead is connected, power will always be supplied to the memory circuit of the SONY CDX-GT45IPM, even when the ignition switch is turned off. This preserves your settings.

You can connect an optional amplifier using the REAR/SUB AUDIO OUT terminals on your SONY CDX-GT45IPM. The connection method differs depending on the type of amplifier:

• When connecting to a monaural amplifier, connect to the REAR/SUB R audio out of this unit.

• If you use an optional amplifier, connect its ground lead securely to the car chassis to avoid noise.

Adjust the mounting angle of the SONY CDX-GT45IPM to less than 45°.

Before installing the SONY CDX-GT45IPM, you must remove the pre-attached protection collar and bracket.

1. Remove the protection collar:

Pinch both edges of the protection collar, then pull it out.

2. Remove the bracket:

1. Insert both release keys together between the unit and the bracket until they click.

2. Pull down the bracket, then pull up the unit to separate them.

The MW (FM) tuning interval on the SONY CDX-GT45IPM is factory-set to the 9 kHz (50 kHz) position. If the frequency allocation system of your country is based on a 10 kHz (200 kHz) interval, you must set the switch on the bottom of the unit to the 10 kHz (200 kHz) position before making any connections.

To install the SONY CDX-GT45IPM in a dashboard, follow these guidelines:

• Bend the claws on the installation bracket outward for a tight fit, if necessary.

• After inserting the unit into the bracket, make sure that the 4 catches on the protection collar are properly engaged in the slots of the unit for a secure fit.

When installing an iPod for use with your SONY CDX-GT45IPM, please note the following:

• Make sure that the iPod is placed where it will not obstruct driving, such as in the car’s glove box.

• The length of the dock connector cable is 1.22 m (4.0 ft). Install the iPod within the reach of this cable.

You may not be able to install the SONY CDX-GT45IPM in some makes of Japanese cars. In such a case, consult your Sony dealer. To prevent malfunction, ensure you only use the supplied screws for installation.

Before installing the unit, you must detach the front panel.

To detach:

Before detaching the front panel, be sure to press the OFF button. Then, press the panel release button and pull the panel off towards you.

To attach:

Engage the right side of the front panel with the corresponding part on the unit, as illustrated in the manual, and then push the left side into position until it clicks securely.

If your car’s ignition has no ACC (accessory) position, you must set the Auto Off function on the SONY CDX-GT45IPM. The unit will then shut off completely and automatically in the set time after the unit is turned off, which prevents battery drain. If you do not set the Auto Off function, you must press and hold the OFF button until the display disappears each time you turn the ignition off. For details on setting the Auto Off function, please see the supplied Operating Instructions.

After the installation and all connections for your SONY CDX-GT45IPM are completed, you must press the RESET button. To do this, first detach the front panel, then press the RESET button with a ball-point pen or a similar pointed object.
