When the battery becomes weak, the range of the remote commander becomes shorter. Under normal conditions, the battery will last approximately 1 year.

To replace the battery:

1. Open the battery compartment.

2. Replace the old battery with a new one of the same or equivalent type, ensuring the ‘+’ side is facing up.

CAUTION: Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.

Notes on the lithium battery:

– Keep the lithium battery out of the reach of children. If swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.

– Wipe the battery with a dry cloth to ensure good contact.

– Be sure to observe the correct polarity when installing the battery.

– Do not hold the battery with metallic tweezers, as this may cause a short-circuit.

You can cancel the demonstration display which appears when the source is off and the clock is displayed by following these steps:

1. Press MENU, rotate the control dial to select [GENERAL], then press it.

2. Rotate the control dial to select [SET DEMO], then press it.

3. Rotate the control dial to select [SET DEMO-OFF], then press it. The setting is complete.

4. Press the back button twice. The display returns to normal reception/play mode.

The SONY CDX-G1202U may not function properly if the connectors between the unit and the front panel are not clean. To prevent this, detach the front panel and clean the connectors with a cotton swab. Do not apply too much force, otherwise, the connectors may be damaged.

Notes:

– For safety, turn off the ignition before cleaning the connectors, and remove the key from the ignition switch.

– Never touch the connectors directly with your fingers or with any metal device.

Cautions

– Run all ground (earth) leads to a common ground (earth) point.

– Do not get the leads trapped under a screw, or caught in moving parts (e.g., seat railing).

– Before making connections, turn the car ignition off to avoid short circuits.

– Connect the yellow and red power supply leads only after all other leads have been connected.

Precautions

– Choose the installation location carefully so that the unit will not interfere with normal driving operations.

Note on the power supply lead (yellow)

When connecting the SONY CDX-G1202U in combination with other stereo components, the amperage rating of the car circuit to which the unit is connected must be higher than the sum of each component’s fuse amperage rating.

Mounting angle adjustment

Adjust the mounting angle to less than 45°.

Follow these steps to make the connections for your SONY CDX-G1202U:

1. To a common ground (earth) point: First connect the black ground (earth) lead, then connect the yellow and red power supply leads.

2. To the +12 V power terminal which is energized at all times: Be sure to first connect the black ground (earth) lead to a common ground (earth) point.

3. To the +12 V power terminal which is energized when the ignition switch is set to the accessory position: If there is no accessory position, connect to the +12 V power (battery) terminal which is energized at all times. Be sure to first connect the black ground (earth) lead to a common ground (earth) point.

4. To the power antenna (aerial) control lead or the power supply lead of the antenna (aerial) booster: It is not necessary to connect this lead if there is no power antenna or booster, or with a manually-operated telescopic antenna. For an optional power amplifier, connect this to the AMP REMOTE IN terminal. This connection is only for amplifiers and a power antenna. Connecting any other system may damage the unit.

The speaker connections are as follows:

Note: If you have a power antenna (aerial) without a relay box, connecting the SONY CDX-G1202U with the supplied power supply lead may damage the antenna (aerial).

Follow these steps for wiring your SONY CDX-G1202U:

1. To a common ground (earth) point: First connect the black ground (earth) lead, then connect the yellow and red power supply leads.

2. To the +12 V power terminal which is energized at all times: Be sure to first connect the black ground (earth) lead to a common ground (earth) point.

For Argentine models, if you have a power antenna without a relay box, using the supplied power lead may damage it.

5. To the car’s speaker connector: Refer to your vehicle’s manual to connect the speaker wires (Purple, Gray, White, Green pairs).

Match the connections of the cords correctly depending on your car’s auxiliary power connector.

Common connection:

• Connect the red lead from the SONY CDX-G1202U to the car’s switched power supply.
• Connect the yellow lead from the SONY CDX-G1202U to the car’s continuous power supply.

When the positions of the red and yellow leads are inverted:

• Connect the red lead from the SONY CDX-G1202U to the car’s continuous power supply.
• Connect the yellow lead from the SONY CDX-G1202U to the car’s switched power supply.

When the car is without an ACC position:

• Connect both the red and yellow leads from the SONY CDX-G1202U together to the car’s continuous power supply.

After matching the connections and switching power supply leads correctly, connect the unit to the car’s power supply. If you have any questions, consult the car dealer.

You can use a subwoofer without a power amplifier when it is connected to a rear speaker cord on the SONY CDX-G1202U.

Note: Use a subwoofer with an impedance of 4 Ω to 8 Ω, and with adequate power handling capacities to avoid damage.

Memory hold connection

When the yellow power supply lead is connected to the SONY CDX-G1202U, power will always be supplied to the memory circuit even when the ignition switch is turned off.

Speaker connection

– Before connecting the speakers, turn the SONY CDX-G1202U off.

– Use speakers with an impedance of 4 Ω to 8 Ω, and with adequate power handling capacities to avoid damage.

Removing the protection collar and the bracket

Before installing the SONY CDX-G1202U, remove the protection collar and the bracket from the unit.

1. Pinch both edges of the protection collar, then pull it out.

2. Insert both supplied release keys until they click, and pull down on the bracket, then pull up the unit to separate it.

Mounting the unit in the dashboard

1. Before installing, make sure the catches on both sides of the mounting bracket are bent inwards 2 mm (3/32 in).

2. Position the bracket inside the dashboard, then bend the claws outward for a tight fit.

3. Mount the SONY CDX-G1202U onto the bracket, then attach the protection collar.

Notes:

– If the catches are straight or bent outwards, the unit will not be installed securely and may spring out.

– Make sure the 4 catches on the protection collar are properly engaged in the slots of the unit.

You may not be able to install the SONY CDX-G1202U in some makes of Japanese cars. In such a case, consult your Sony dealer. You may need to use your car’s existing brackets. To prevent malfunction, install only with the supplied screws.

When replacing the fuse, be sure to use one matching the amperage rating stated on the original fuse (10 A). If the fuse blows, check the power connection and replace the fuse. If the fuse blows again after replacement, there may be an internal malfunction. In such a case, consult your nearest Sony dealer.

If the main board or system controller has been replaced, the destination setting is necessary.

1. Enter Test Mode:

With the source off (clock displayed), press the buttons in the following order: [4] → [5] → [►►I 6] (press and hold the [►►I 6] button for two seconds).

2. Enter Destination Setting Mode:

While the software main version is displayed, press the buttons in order: [►I] → [◄] → [PUSH ENTER/MENU] or on the remote: [→] → [←] → [ENTER].

3. Input the Destination Code:

The display will show a 6-digit alphanumeric code to be entered. Refer to the table in the service manual for the correct code for your model and region.

Method of operation by main unit:

– Rotate the control dial to select the alphanumeric character from “0 to F”.

– Press the [PUSH ENTER/MENU] or [►►] button to advance to the next digit.

– Press the [MODE ◄] or [◄◄] button to return to the previous digit.

– After entering the last digit, press the [PUSH ENTER/MENU] button. The display will turn off, initialize, and then return to the clock display.

4. Reset the Unit:

Press the [OFF SRC] button for 1 second after the setting ends. The unit will return to the normal condition.

Execute the following operation to confirm the correct destination was set.

1. With the source off (clock displayed), enter the test mode by pressing the buttons in order: [4] → [5] → [►►I 6] (press and hold the [►►I 6] button for two seconds).

2. While the software main version is displayed, press the [- SCRL DSPL] button twice. The unit will cycle through software main version → software DSP version → destination code.

3. Confirm that the 6-digit alphanumeric character displayed matches the correct value for your model’s destination.

4. Press the [OFF SRC] button for 1 second to exit and return the unit to the normal condition.
