• Keep flammable objects or open flames (e.g., candles) away from the TV.

Handling:

• When carrying the SONY BRAVIA KDL-46XBR5, ensure at least two or three people are involved. Hold it securely from the bottom, avoiding stress on the LCD panel.

• Do not throw anything at the TV. The screen glass may break upon impact.

Servicing:

• Do not attempt to service the TV yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

To prepare your SONY BRAVIA KDL-46XBR5 for installation on a wall using a Wall-Mount Bracket (sold separately), you must first remove the Table-Top Stand. Follow these steps:

You can use your SONY BRAVIA KDL-46XBR5 as a monitor for your PC. There are two primary connection methods:

1. Using an HD15-HD15 Cable (Analog RGB):

• Connect the PC IN (RGB) jack on the TV to your computer’s video output connector using an HD15-HD15 cable with a ferrite core (not supplied).

• For audio, connect an audio cable with stereo mini plugs from your PC’s audio output to the PC IN (AUDIO) jack on the TV.

2. Using an HDMI Cable:

• If your PC has an HDMI output, connect it to one of the HDMI IN jacks on the TV using an HDMI cable. This single cable will carry both video and audio signals.

After connecting, set the output signal from your PC according to the “PC Input Signal Reference Chart” in your operating instructions for optimal picture quality. If the PC is connected and there is no input signal for more than 30 seconds, the TV will automatically enter standby mode.

The following table lists the supported PC signals for your SONY BRAVIA KDL-46XBR5. For the best picture quality, it is recommended to use the signals in bold with a 60 Hz vertical frequency.

Note: This TV’s PC input does not support Sync on Green, Composite Sync, or interlaced signals.

The Initial Setup screen appears automatically when you turn on the SONY BRAVIA KDL-46XBR5 for the first time. If you have an antenna or cable connected directly to the TV’s VHF/UHF/CABLE input, you can run this setup to create a list of available channels.

2. Press and hold the appropriate FUNCTION button (e.g., BD, DVD, or STB) and the INPUT button simultaneously until the FUNCTION button lights up.

3. While the button is lit, enter the three-digit code using the number buttons (0-9). You must do this within 10 seconds.

4. Press the POWER button while the FUNCTION button is still lit.

If programmed correctly, the selected FUNCTION button will blink twice. If it blinks five times, the code was incorrect. To confirm, try turning the equipment on and off with the green POWER button on the remote. If it works, the programming is complete.

You can customize the sound settings by navigating to the Settings category in the XMB and selecting Sound.

• Sound Mode: Select from Dynamic (enhanced treble/bass), Standard (for spoken dialog), or Custom (to make your own adjustments).

• Reset: Resets the current Sound Mode to its default values.

• Treble: Increases or decreases higher-pitched sounds.

• Bass: Increases or decreases lower-pitched sounds.

• Balance: Emphasizes the left or right speaker balance.

• Surround: Select S-FORCE Front Surround for a virtual surround sound experience.

• Sound Booster: Emphasizes high and low frequencies for a fuller sound when in Custom mode.

• Steady Sound: Stabilizes the volume across different programs and commercials.

• Volume Offset: Adjusts the volume level of the current input relative to other inputs.

You can change how the picture fits the screen by repeatedly pressing the WIDE button on the remote control or by accessing the Screen settings in the XMB. The available modes depend on the source signal:

• Wide Zoom: Fills the screen with minimum distortion.

• Normal: Displays a 4:3 picture in its original aspect ratio with black bars on the sides.

• Full: Stretches a 4:3 picture horizontally to fill the screen. Displays a 16:9 picture in its original size.

• Zoom: Enlarges the picture both horizontally and vertically to fill the screen, which may cut off the top and bottom of the image.

You can also set Auto Wide to “On” to have the TV automatically change the Wide Mode based on the content, or set a 4:3 Default mode for all standard-definition sources.

The Parental Lock feature allows you to block programs based on content ratings. To set it up:

1. Navigate to Settings > Parental Lock in the XMB.

2. When prompted, use the 0-9 buttons to create a four-digit password. You will need to enter it a second time to confirm.

3. Once the password is set, you can configure the following:

• Country: Select U.S.A. or Canada for the appropriate rating system.

• Rating: Choose from predefined levels like Child, Youth, or Young Adult, or select Custom to manually set TV and Movie rating blocks (e.g., TV-PG, PG-13, R).

• Channel Block: Allows you to block specific channels entirely, regardless of the program’s rating.

• Unrated: (U.S.A. only) Choose to either Allow or Block programs that do not have a rating.

To view a blocked program, press ENT when tuned to the channel and enter your password.

Before cleaning, unplug the AC power cord to prevent electric shock.

• Screen Surface/Cabinet: To remove dust from the screen, wipe it gently with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn stains, you may use a cloth slightly dampened with a solution of mild soap and warm water. Never use strong solvents like thinner or benzine for cleaning.

• Ventilation Holes: Clean the ventilation holes regularly (once a month) with a vacuum cleaner to remove accumulated dust, as this ensures proper cooling.

• AC Power Plug: Unplug the AC power plug and clean it regularly. If the plug is covered with dust and it picks up moisture, its insulation may deteriorate.

To prevent the TV from toppling, which can cause property damage or serious injury, it is strongly recommended that you secure it.

Recommended Measures:

1. Secure the Stand: If using the Table-Top Stand, ensure the surface it is on is stable and large enough to support it. Use two angle braces (not supplied) to secure the TV stand to the wall stud or furniture.

2. Secure the TV to the Stand: Use an M6 x 10-12 mm anchor bolt (not supplied) screwed into the hole on the TV’s Table-Top Stand. Attach a strong rope or chain from this bolt to a secure point on the stand or furniture, ensuring there is no excess slack.

3. Anchor the TV to the Wall:

• Use two M6 x 7-10 mm anchor bolts (not supplied) screwed into the top-most wall-mount holes on the rear of the TV.

• Attach a strong rope or chain to one of these bolts.

• Attach a wall-anchor (strong enough to support the TV’s weight) to a wall stud.

• Pass the rope through the wall-anchor and attach it to the other M6 anchor bolt on the TV.

If you have no picture, please check the following:

• Check the Power Saving settings to ensure the picture is not turned off.

• Make sure the AC power cord is connected securely to the TV and the wall outlet.

• Press the POWER button on the TV or remote control to turn on the TV.

• Check your antenna or cable connections.

• If you are connected to an external device (like a cable box or DVD player), ensure the device is powered on and that you have selected the correct input on the TV by pressing the INPUT button.

If you have a picture but no sound, try these solutions:

• Press the VOL + button to increase the volume.

• Press the MUTING button to ensure the sound is not muted. “Muting” should not be displayed on the screen.

• If you have headphones connected, disconnect them.

• In the Audio Options settings, make sure Speakers is set to “TV Speakers”. If it is set to “Audio System”, sound will be sent to an external device and not the TV’s speakers.

Black bands appear for a couple of reasons depending on the content you are watching:

• Bands on Left and Right Sides: This occurs when you are watching a program broadcast in a 4:3 aspect ratio (a squarer picture) on your 16:9 widescreen TV. This is normal. You can use the WIDE button to stretch or zoom the image if you prefer, but this may distort the picture.

• Bands on Top and Bottom: This is common with theatrical movies (from DVDs, Blu-ray discs, or broadcasts) that are filmed in an aspect ratio wider than 16:9 (e.g., 2.35:1). Your TV displays the movie in its original format, which results in black bars. This is also normal.

If your remote control is not operating the TV, please try the following steps:

• Check the batteries. Ensure they are inserted with the correct polarity (+ and -) or replace them with new batteries.

• Point the remote control directly at the remote control sensor located on the front of the TV.

• Make sure the sensor area on the TV is not blocked by any obstacles.

• Fluorescent lamps can sometimes interfere with remote control operation. Try turning off any nearby fluorescent lights.

• If trying to control the TV, press the TV (FUNCTION) button once to make sure the remote is in TV mode.

To reset the TV to its original factory settings, follow this procedure. WARNING: This reset will clear all of your customized settings, including Parental Lock settings.

1. Turn on the TV.

2. While holding down the UP ARROW button on the remote control, press the POWER button on the TV set itself (not the remote).

3. The TV will turn itself off, and then back on again.

4. Release the UP ARROW button.
