What is the ingress protection rating of the earbuds and what does it mean?

The earbuds feature an IPX4 ingress protection rating which means they are protected from the ingress of water (splash proof). This is according to International Protection Marking (IP code), IEC standard 60529, tested under laboratory conditions.

The earbuds can be used in the rain, for example. However, they are not suitable for immersion in water or for wearing in the shower. In case of permanent moisture/wetness, the ingress protection can be reduced and the product can be damaged.

Do not charge wet earbuds. Completely dry wet earbuds with a dry cloth before charging them.

The charging case is not splash waterproof. Always keep the charging case dry and make sure the charging socket is free from moisture and contamination. Only use high-quality USB charging cables with USB-IF certification.

How do I set up the earbuds for the first time?

Upon delivery, the rechargeable batteries are in sleep mode. You must wake them up by connecting them to a power source.

1. Insert the earbuds into the charging case and close the lid.

2. Connect the USB C cable to the charging case.

3. Connect the cable to a USB power source and charge for at least 15 seconds. The earbuds and charging case will wake up, and the batteries will begin to charge.

It is recommended to charge the earbuds and the charging case for a complete charging cycle (approx. 1 hour) without interruption before first use.

How do I correctly insert the earbuds?

The correct fit provides the best sound quality, voice quality, and wearing comfort.

1. Assign the right earbud (R) to your right ear and the left earbud (L) to your left ear.

2. Insert the earbuds straight into your ears with the stem pointing downwards.

3. Twist the earbuds slightly in the ear so that the stem points towards your mouth until the earbuds sit comfortably and snugly in the ear.

How do I charge the earbuds and the charging case?

A complete charging cycle takes about 1 hour. A quick charge of 10 minutes provides approximately 1.5 hours of playback time.

1. Open the charging case lid. Insert the left earbud into the left compartment and the right earbud into the right compartment. The earbuds are magnetically pulled into place.

2. Close the lid of the charging case. Ensure the charging socket is free from moisture and contamination. Connect the USB C end of the charging cable to the charging case’s USB socket.

3. Connect the USB A end of the cable to a USB power source. The batteries of the earbuds and charging case will begin charging. The LED on the case indicates the charging status.

If no earbuds are inserted, only the charging case battery will be charged.

How do I pair the earbuds with a Bluetooth device?

When you take the earbuds out of the case for the first time after initial charging, they automatically enter pairing mode. If the pairing list is empty, pairing mode remains permanently active. To manually start pairing:

1. Take both earbuds out of the charging case and insert them into your ears. The distance to the Bluetooth device should be no more than 1 m / 40 inches.

2. Simultaneously touch and hold the right and left touch control panels for 3 seconds until you hear a short, repetitive melody indicating pairing mode.

3. Activate Bluetooth on your device and search for new Bluetooth devices.

4. From the list of found devices, select “ACCENTUM Open”. If necessary, enter the default PIN code “0000”.

If pairing is successful, you will hear an ascending sequence of two tones. If no connection is made within 2 minutes, pairing mode terminates.

How do I connect to additional Bluetooth devices or manage connections?

The earbuds can save the connection profiles of up to eight Bluetooth devices. You can have two active Bluetooth connections at the same time, but audio playback is only possible from one device at a time.

To connect to an additional device, initiate pairing mode as described in the pairing instructions.

When switched on, the earbuds will automatically try to connect to the last two Bluetooth devices used.

If you pair the earbuds with a ninth Bluetooth device, the connection profile of the first-paired device will be overwritten.

How do I disconnect the earbuds from a Bluetooth device?

Via the Bluetooth menu of your device, disconnect the connection to the earbuds. You will hear a descending sequence of two tones, and the earbuds will search for other paired devices. If none are found, they will switch to idle mode.

How do I switch the earbuds on and off?

Switching On:

The earbuds switch on automatically when you open the lid of the charging case. Simply open the lid and take out both earbuds. If a paired device is in range, they will connect automatically.

Switching Off:

The earbuds do not need to be switched off explicitly. Insert the earbuds into the charging case and close the lid. They will automatically switch off and begin charging.

How do I control volume and music playback?

Adjusting Volume:

• To increase volume: Touch and hold the touch control panel of the right earbud.

• To decrease volume: Touch and hold the touch control panel of the left earbud.

When minimum or maximum volume is reached, you will hear a sequence of two high tones.

Music Playback Controls:

• Play/Pause music: Tap the touch control panel of the right or left earbud 1x.

• Play the next track: Tap the touch control panel of the right earbud 2x.

• Play the previous track: Tap the touch control panel of the left earbud 2x.

How does the Smart Pause function work?

The earbuds automatically detect when you are wearing them. Music playback pauses when you remove an earbud and resumes when you insert it again. If the interruption is longer than 3 minutes, playback will not start automatically.

To disable or enable the Smart Pause function, tap the touch control panel of the left earbud 3x.

How do I make phone calls with the earbuds?

During a call, you can use the right and/or left earbud to control call functions. If your device doesn’t automatically transfer the call, select “ACCENTUM Open” as the audio output on your device.

Action Function
Tap 1x Accepts an incoming call.
Tap 1x (during a call) Accepts a second incoming call and ends the active call.
Tap 2x Ends the current call.
Tap 2x (incoming call) Rejects an incoming call.
Tap 2x (during a call with second incoming call) Rejects the second incoming call and continues the active call.

How can I check the battery status?

When connected to a Bluetooth device, the battery status may be displayed on the screen of your device.

You can also check the status using the charging case LED by opening the lid (without a USB cable connected):

Lights up green: Earbuds are fully charged, and the case has >50% charge.

Lights up yellow: Earbuds are fully charged, and the case has <50% charge.

Pulses yellow: Earbuds are currently charging from the case battery.

Lights up red: The batteries of the earbuds and the case are almost empty.

Flashes red: There is a charging or battery error.

How should I store or transport the earbuds?

Store the earbuds in the charging case to prevent damage when not in use or during transport. The earbuds will be automatically charged in the case, ensuring they are ready for use.

ATTENTION: Moisture and dirt can damage the electronics. Do not place the earbuds in the charging case if they are wet or dirty.

1. Open the charging case by overcoming the magnetic resistance.

2. Insert the left and right earbuds into their respective charging compartments. They will be magnetically pulled into place.

3. Close the lid of the charging case.

How do I clean and maintain the earbuds and charging case?

ATTENTION: Liquids can damage the product’s electronics. Keep all liquids far away and do not use any solvents or cleansing agents.

• Only clean the charging case with a soft, dry cloth.

• Clean the earbuds with a slightly damp cloth.

• Clean the charging contacts on the earbuds and in the charging case from time to time, for example, with a cotton swab.

• To remove dirt, dust, or lint from the USB socket of the charging case, carefully swipe a fine object (e.g., a toothpick or interdental brush) through the opening.

If the earbuds get wet, dry them with a dry cloth. If necessary, let them air dry at room temperature for approximately 12 hours.

What should I do if a problem occurs?

If a problem occurs, proceed in the following order:

1. Perform a simple reset: Insert the earbuds into the charging case, close the lid, and wait for at least 10 seconds.

2. Reset the earbuds to factory default settings.

3. Check the list of frequently asked questions for a solution.

What happens if I leave the Bluetooth transmission range?

The transmission range is up to 10 meters with a free line of sight. If you leave this range, the sound quality will deteriorate until the connection breaks completely, and you will hear a descending sequence of two tones. If you immediately re-enter the transmission range, the connection is automatically re-established, and you will hear an ascending sequence of two tones. If not, tap the touch control panel of one earbud one time to reconnect.

How do I perform a reset on the earbuds?

If the function of the earbuds is disturbed, perform a reset. This will not delete individual settings like pairing information.

1. Insert the earbuds into the charging case.

2. Close the lid of the charging case and wait at least 10 seconds.

3. Open the lid again. The earbuds will restart (reset).

How do I reset the earbuds to factory default settings?

If a reset does not solve the issue, you can reset the earbuds to their factory defaults. This will delete all pairing settings.

1. Disconnect the earbuds from your device by removing “ACCENTUM Open” from the list of Bluetooth devices.

2. Take one earbud out of the charging case and insert it in your ear. Close the lid of the charging case, leaving the second earbud inside.

3. Tap and hold the touch control panel of the earbud in your ear for 12 seconds. You will hear a sequence of three tones.

4. Now take the second earbud out of the charging case and insert it in your other ear.

5. Tap and hold the touch control panel of this second earbud for 12 seconds. You will hear a sequence of three tones.

6. Remove both earbuds from your ears and place them close together. Within 15 seconds, the earbuds will connect to each other, confirming a successful factory reset and peer pairing.

You will now need to pair your earbuds with your Bluetooth device again.

What should I do if I suspect the rechargeable battery is defective?

If you suspect that a rechargeable battery is obviously defective or if a charging error/battery error is displayed (flashing red LED), stop using the product, disconnect it from the power supply system and contact your Sonova Consumer Hearing partner. Do not return a product with a defective battery unless requested to do so.
