What safety warnings should I be aware of during installation?

This unit is designed to operate on 12 V DC, NEGATIVE ground electrical systems. If your vehicle does not have this system, a voltage inverter is required, which can be purchased at JVC car audio dealers.

To prevent short circuits, we recommend that you disconnect the battery’s negative terminal and make all electrical connections before installing the unit.

Be sure to ground this unit to the car’s chassis again after installation.

What are some important notes for installation and operation?

Replace the fuse with one of the specified rating. If the fuse blows frequently, consult your JVC car audio dealer.

It is recommended to connect speakers with a maximum power of more than 50 W (both at the rear and at the front, with an impedance of 4 Ω to 8 Ω). If the maximum power is less than 50 W, change “AMP GAIN” setting to prevent the speakers from being damaged (see page 29 of the INSTRUCTIONS).

To prevent short circuits, cover the terminals of the UNUSED leads with insulating tape.

The heat sink becomes very hot after use. Be careful not to touch it when removing this unit.

What precautions should be taken for power supply and speaker connections?

DO NOT connect the speaker leads of the power cord to the car battery; otherwise, the unit will be seriously damaged.

BEFORE connecting the speaker leads of the power cord to the speakers, check the speaker wiring in your car.

What parts are included for installation and connection?

The following parts are provided for this unit. If any item is missing, consult your JVC car audio dealer immediately.

How do I perform an in-dash installation?

The following illustration shows a typical installation. If you have any questions or require information regarding installation kits, consult your JVC car audio dealer or a company supplying kits. If you are not sure how to install this unit correctly, have it installed by a qualified technician.

1. Do the required electrical connections.

2. Insert the unit into the sleeve.

3. Bend the appropriate tabs to hold the sleeve firmly in place.

How do I remove the unit from the dashboard?

Before removing the unit, release the rear section.

1. Insert the two handles.

2. Pull the handles as illustrated so that the unit can be removed.

How do I install the unit without using the sleeve (e.g., in a Toyota)?

In a Toyota car for example, first remove the car radio and install the unit in its place. When installing the unit on the mounting bracket, make sure to use the 8 mm (3/8″)-long screws (Flat head screws – M5 x 8 mm). If longer screws are used, they could damage the unit.

How do I perform the electrical connections?

Before connecting, check the wiring in the vehicle carefully. Incorrect connection may cause serious damage to this unit. The leads of the power cord and those of the connector from the car body may be different in color.

1. Connect the colored leads of the power cord in the order specified in the wiring diagram.

2. Connect the antenna cord.

3. Finally connect the wiring harness to the unit.

Wire Color Connection Point
Black To the metallic body or chassis of the car. Firmly attach the ground wire to a place uncoated with paint (if coated with paint, remove the paint before attaching the wire). Failure to do so may cause damage to the unit.
Yellow To a live terminal in the fuse block connecting to the car battery (bypassing the ignition switch) (constant 12 V). Before checking the operation of this unit prior to installation, this lead must be connected; otherwise, the power cannot be turned on.
Red To an accessory terminal in the fuse block
Blue with white stripe To the remote lead of other equipment or automatic antenna if any (200 mA max.)
Orange with white stripe To car light control switch
White / White with black stripe Left speaker (front)
Gray / Gray with black stripe Right speaker (front)
Green / Green with black stripe Left speaker (rear)
Purple / Purple with black stripe Right speaker (rear)

How do I connect an external amplifier or subwoofer?

You can connect an amplifier to upgrade your car stereo system. Connect the remote lead (blue with white stripe) to the remote lead of the other equipment so that it can be controlled through this unit.

For amplifier only:

Disconnect the speakers from this unit, connect them to the amplifier. Leave the speaker leads of this unit unused. For KD-A605: The line output level of this unit is kept high to maintain the hi-fi sounds reproduced from this unit. When connecting an external amplifier to this unit, turn down the gain control on the external amplifier to obtain the best performance from this unit.

To use an external amplifier for rear speakers, set “L/O MODE” to “REAR”.

To use an external amplifier for a subwoofer, set “L/O MODE” to “SUB.W”.

Can I connect this unit to my car’s steering wheel remote controller (KD-A605 only)?

If your car is equipped with the steering wheel remote controller, you can operate this unit using the controller. For connection, an exclusive remote adapter (not supplied) which matches your car is required. For details, consult the same car audio dealer as where the unit is purchased.

How do I connect external components?

CAUTION: Before connecting the external components, make sure that the unit is turned off.

You can connect various JVC components. When connecting, refer also to the manuals supplied for the components and adapter.

Component Adapter/System Model Name
Bluetooth device Bluetooth adapter KS-BTA200
iPod Interface adapter for iPod KS-PD100
XMDirect™ Tuner Box Smart Digital Adapter XMDJVC100
XM satellite radio System XMDirect2 Tuner System CNP2000UC and CNPJVC1
SIRIUS satellite radio System SIRIUS satellite radio System SC-C1 and KS-SRA100
SIRIUS satellite radio System PnP, SC-VDOC1 and KS-SRA100 PnP, SC-VDOC1 and KS-SRA100

Notes on connecting external components:

To use these components, set the external input setting correctly (see page 29 of the INSTRUCTIONS).

Power cannot be supplied to some components (KT-HD300, KS-SRA100) through the CD changer jack. You need to connect the power cord supplied for the component separately.

Connection cords may need to be purchased separately.

How do I connect multiple external components in series?

When connecting more than one component (maximum: three), it is recommended that you connect the components in series. XM Radio and SIRIUS satellite radio cannot be used together.

When connecting two components in series:

Connect to the CD changer jack inputs. For example:

Input A: KT-HD300 / KS-SRA100 / KS-BTA200 / XMDJVC100 / CNP2000UC

Input B: CD-CH / KS-PD100 / KS-U57 / KS-U58

When connecting three components in series:

Connect to the CD changer jack inputs. For example:

Input A: KT-HD300 / KS-SRA100 / XMDJVC100 / CNP2000UC

Input B: KS-BTA200

Input C: KS-PD100 / KS-U57 / KS-U58

It is not recommended to connect KS-U57/KS-U58 at input C in series with XMDJVC100, CNP2000UC and KS-BTA200.
