While operating this machine, always wear substantial footwear and long trousers. Do not operate the equipment when barefoot or wearing open sandals. Wear a suitable protective device such as earplugs, as loud noise can cause impairment or loss of hearing.

Before you disconnect the attachment from the machine hitch plate, ensure you perform the following steps:

1. Unload the JOHN DEERE LPBS36JD.

2. Stop the attachment on level ground.

3. Stop the machine engine.

4. Lock the machine park brake.

5. Block the attachment wheels.

6. Make sure hands, feet, or other body parts are not under the drawbar.

The JOHN DEERE LPBS36JD is intended for use in lawn care and home applications. Do not tow behind a vehicle on a highway or in any high speed application. Do not tow at speeds higher than the maximum recommended towing speed. Towing speed should always be slow enough to maintain control and you should travel slowly over rough ground. Do not turn sharply and use additional caution when turning or operating under adverse surface conditions. Do not shift to neutral and coast downhill.

To perform annual maintenance, begin by removing the wheels. If your unit has metal rims, remove the snap ring, 5/8 inch flat washer, wheel, and washers if installed, and the axle bearing. Remove the open-style spring locking pin. Remove the large closed-style spring locking pin and slide the axle out from the support frame, then remove the remaining axle bearings and washers. Clean all parts thoroughly. If your unit has composite plastic rims, remove the snap ring, 5/8 inch flat washer, wheel, two 5/8 inch flat washers if installed, spacer, 5/8 inch flat washer, and axle bearing, then remove the open-style spring locking pin. Remove the large closed-style spring locking pin and slide the axle out from the support frame, then remove the remaining axle bearing and washers on the opposite side of the axle. Clean all parts thoroughly.

Before using the JOHN DEERE LPBS36JD, perform the following checks:

1. Check for loose or missing hardware.

2. Make sure all connections are tight.

3. Make sure the attachment responds properly to controls.

4. Check for debris build-up that could obstruct proper motion of the spreader control components.

5. Check to make sure tires on composite plastic rims are inflated to 30 psi (2.1 bar) (207 kPa), or tires on metal rims are inflated to 20 psi (1.3 bar) (138 kPa) maximum.

Adjustment can be made by moving the direction control plate to the right or left. The directional decal located below the directional control plate will aid you in adjusting the spread pattern. For most applications, the plate should be placed close to the center position. If the material is coming out right or left during operation, adjustment of this plate should be made to center the material distribution pattern behind the vehicle.

If the JOHN DEERE LPBS36JD is dispensing too much or not enough material, you should calibrate the gage plate.

If the flow control handle on the JOHN DEERE LPBS36JD is hard to operate, the flow control handle hardware may be too tight. Try loosening the 5/16 x 2-3/4 inch bolt on the flow control handle assembly. Additionally, take the gate and directional control plates apart and clean the plates out with soap and water.

If material is clogged, turn off the engine and set the parking brake. Fully open the gate, shake the hopper until material flows, then close the gate.

Use the following table to set the calibration control lever if your product is not listed in the specific flow control settings table. Settings are determined using a 3 MPH pace or 40 ft of travel in 9 seconds.
