How do I clean my INSTANT POT DUO NOVA 80 before its first use?
Remove the inner pot from the cooker base and wash it with hot water and washing up liquid. Rinse with warm, clear water and use a soft cloth to dry the outside of the inner pot. The inner pot is dishwasher safe.
Wipe the heating element with a soft cloth to ensure there are no stray packaging particles present before returning the inner pot to the cooker base. Before cooking, always ensure the heating element is clean and dry before inserting the inner pot. Failure to do so may damage the cooker.
Important: Food must be placed in the inner pot, and never directly in the cooker base. Do not pour food or liquid into the cooker base. Do not fill the inner pot higher than the PC MAX — 2/3 line. For foods that expand (like apples, oatmeal, split peas), do not fill the inner pot higher than the — 1/2 line.
How do I open, close, and handle the lid and its components on my INSTANT POT DUO NOVA 80?
Open and Remove the Lid:
Grip the lid handle and turn it anti-clockwise to align the ▼ symbol on the lid with the unlock symbol on the cooker base rim. Lift the lid up and off.
Close the Lid:
Align the ▼ symbol on the lid with the unlock symbol on the cooker base, and lower the lid. Turn the lid clockwise until the ▼ symbol on the lid aligns with the lock symbol on the cooker base.
Quick Release Button:
This button controls the steam release valve. Press it down to vent, and it pops up to seal.
Steam Release Valve:
• Remove: Pull the steam release valve up and off the steam release pipe. It should only be removed for cleaning.
• Install: Place the steam release valve on the steam release pipe and press down firmly. It sits loosely but should remain in place when the lid is turned over.
Anti-Block Shield:
• Remove: Press firmly against the side of the anti-block shield (towards the side of the lid and up) until it pops off the prongs underneath.
• Install: Place the anti-block shield over the prongs and press down until it snaps into position.

• Install: Place the sealing ring over the sealing ring rack and press it into place. When installed properly, it is snug and should not fall out when the lid is turned over.
Float Valve:
The float valve indicates pressure. When it is popped up, the cooker is pressurised. When it is down and flush with the lid, it is depressurised.
• Remove: Place one finger on the flat top of the float valve and turn the lid over. Detach the silicone cap from the bottom side. Then remove the float valve from the top of the lid.
• Install: Drop the narrow end of the float valve into the float valve hole. Place a finger on top, turn the lid over, and firmly attach the silicone cap to the bottom of the float valve.
What are the stages of pressure cooking in my INSTANT POT DUO NOVA 80?
Pressure cooking in your INSTANT POT DUO NOVA 80 goes through 3 stages:
1. Pre-Heating and Pressurisation:
After you make your selections, the cooker waits 10 seconds and then displays On to indicate it has begun pre-heating. It vaporises liquid in the inner pot to create steam. Once enough steam builds up, the float valve pops up, locking the lid for safe pressure cooking. The silicone cap on the bottom of the float valve seals the steam inside, allowing pressure to rise further. The time to pressurise varies based on food and liquid volume.
2. Cooking:
After the float valve pops up, the cooker finishes building pressure. When the target pressure is reached, cooking begins. The display switches from On to a cooking countdown timer in HH:MM format.
3. Depressurisation:
After cooking completes, follow your recipe for depressurising. If automatic Keep Warm is on, the timer will count up from 00:00 to 10 hours. If not, the cooker displays End and returns to Standby. The cooker cools faster if automatic Keep Warm is off.
How do I depressurise my INSTANT POT DUO NOVA 80 after cooking?
Always follow recipe instructions for depressurising. There are three main methods:
Natural Release (NR):
Leave the quick release button in the popped-up Seal position. The cooker depressurises naturally over time as the temperature drops. The depressurisation time varies based on the volume of food and liquid. When fully depressurised, the float valve will drop into the lid. Use NR for high-starch foods (soups, stews, pasta) or foods that expand (beans, grains).
Quick Release (QR):
Press the quick release button down until it clicks and locks into the Vent position. A stream of hot steam will release from the top of the steam release valve. This method is loud. When the cooker is completely depressurised, the float valve drops. If spatter occurs, flick the quick release button back to the Seal position, wait a few minutes, and try again.
10-Minute NR:
Leave the quick release button in the Seal position for 10 minutes after cooking has completed. Then, press the quick release button down into the Vent position to release the remaining pressure. If spatter occurs, switch back to Seal, wait 5 more minutes, then try again or use a full NR.
