To set up your IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 with an iOS device, follow these steps:

1. Connect the included Lightning cable to the micro-USB port on iRig Keys 2.

2. Connect the Lightning connector to the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad.

3. If you have not done so already, download the included app from the App Store and launch it.

4. If needed, connect a footswitch/expression pedal to the TRS connector on iRig Keys 2 (not for Mini).

5. To play MIDI compatible apps from an external controller, use the included MIDI cable adapter and a standard MIDI cable (not included) to connect your controller’s MIDI OUT port to the iRig Keys 2’s MIDI IN port.

6. To control an external MIDI device, use the included MIDI cable adapter and a standard MIDI cable (not included) to connect the MIDI OUT port of the iRig Keys 2 to the MIDI IN port of the external device.

7. Connect your headphones or powered speakers to the Headphone Output jack on iRig Keys 2 and set its level via the dedicated volume control.

To set up your IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 with a computer, follow these steps:

1. Connect the included USB cable to the micro-USB port on iRig Keys 2.

2. Connect the USB plug to a free USB socket on your computer.

3. If needed, connect a footswitch/expression pedal to the TRS connector on iRig Keys 2.

4. To play MIDI compatible apps from an external controller, use the included MIDI cable adapter and a standard MIDI cable (not included) to connect your controller’s MIDI OUT port to the iRig Keys 2’s MIDI IN port.

5. To control an external MIDI device, use the included MIDI cable adapter and a standard MIDI cable (not included) to connect the MIDI OUT port of the iRig Keys 2 to the MIDI IN port of the external device.

6. Depending on the software you use, you might need to select “iRig Keys 2″ from the available MIDI IN devices.

7. Connect your headphones or powered speakers to the Headphone Output jack on iRig Keys 2 and set its level via the dedicated volume control.

By default, the IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 plays notes between C2 and C5. To play notes lower or higher than this range, you can shift the keyboard in octaves using the OCT up and down buttons.

When the LEDs for both OCT buttons are off, no octave shift is applied. You can shift a maximum of 3 octaves up or 4 octaves down. The OCT up or down buttons will illuminate when an octave shift is active.

The OCT up or down buttons will flash each time you press them. The number of times they flash corresponds to the number of octaves the keyboard is shifted up or down.

The DATA knob can act as a browsing control in specific software or send a generic CC number programmable by the user. It has two behaviors:

• Absolute (ABS) mode: The knob sends values from 0 to 127 on the selected CC. Clockwise rotation increases the value by 1 per step, and counter-clockwise rotation decreases it by 1. Once 0 or 127 is reached, the value will continue to be sent if rotation continues in the same direction.

• Relative (REL) mode: The knob sends custom values to the selected CC, which allows host applications to browse long lists of elements easily.

The Knobs 1 to 8 can be assigned to any Control Change number. When the 5-8 function is active, the knobs control parameters 5 to 8.

The IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 supports both Sustain Pedals and Expression Pedals (this feature is not available for the iRig Keys 2 Mini).

Sustain Pedal: Connect a NORMALLY OPEN sustain pedal to the jack BEFORE connecting the iRig Keys 2 to your iOS device or computer. When the pedal is depressed, it sends MIDI CC#64 with a value of 127, sustaining all keyed notes. When released, it sends a value of 0.

Expression Pedal: Connect a continuous expression pedal to the jack BEFORE connecting the iRig Keys 2. When the pedal is moved, it sends MIDI CC#11 to control expression. These messages are routed to both the physical MIDI OUT port and the USB port.

By default, each SET on the IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 has the following factory settings:

To enter EDIT mode, press both OCT buttons simultaneously. Both OCT buttons will light up to indicate you are in EDIT mode. You can exit EDIT mode at any time by pressing the key marked “CANCEL/NO”.

In EDIT mode you can:

• Set the MIDI Transmit Channel.

• Set different touch (velocity) sensitivities.

• Assign a specific MIDI Control Change number to the knobs.

• Send specific MIDI Program Change numbers and set the current program number.

• Send “All Notes Off” MIDI message.

• Transpose the keyboard in semitones.

• Reset a specific SET to factory state.

To set the MIDI Transmit Channel:

1. Enter EDIT mode by pressing both OCT buttons.

2. Press the key labeled (MIDI CH). Both OCT buttons will flash.

3. Enter the MIDI Channel number (1 to 16) using the keys marked from 0 to 9. You can enter two digits if needed.

4. Press the key (ENTER/YES) to confirm. Both PROG buttons will flash, and the IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 will automatically exit EDIT mode.

The IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 offers six different velocity response settings:

0. FIXED, 64: Sends a fixed MIDI velocity value of 64.

1. FIXED, 100: Sends a fixed MIDI velocity value of 100.

2. FIXED, 127: Sends a fixed MIDI velocity value of 127.

3. VEL SENS, LIGHT: For a light touch on the keys.

4. VEL SENS, NORMAL: The default setting, works well in most cases.

5. VEL SENS, HEAVY: For a heavy touch on the keys.

To set the velocity response:

1. Enter EDIT mode.

2. Press the key (VEL), both OCT buttons will flash.

3. Enter your selection using the keys marked from 0 to 5.

4. Press the key (ENTER/YES) to confirm. The keyboard will automatically exit EDIT mode.

To assign a Controller number to the knobs (1 to 8):

1. Enter EDIT mode.

2. Press the key (KNOB), both OCT buttons will flash.

3. Enter the knob’s number you want to edit (1 to 8). Press (ENTER/YES) to confirm.

4. Enter the MIDI CC number you need (0 to 119) using the keys marked 0 to 9. You can enter up to three digits.

5. Press the key (ENTER/YES) to confirm your input. Both PROG buttons will flash, and the unit will exit EDIT mode.

To assign a Controller number to the DATA knob rotation:

1. Enter EDIT mode.

2. Press the key (DATA), both OCT buttons will flash.

3. Press the key (ABS) or (REL) to assign an Absolute or Relative behavior.

4. Enter the MIDI CC number (0 to 119) using the number keys.

5. Press (ENTER/YES) to confirm.

To assign a Controller number to the DATA push:

1. Enter EDIT mode.

2. Press the key (DATA), both OCT buttons will flash.

3. Push the DATA knob.

4. Enter the MIDI CC number (0 to 127) using the number keys.

5. Press (ENTER/YES) to confirm.

To send a specific Program Change number directly:

1. Enter EDIT mode.

2. Press the key (PROG), both OCT buttons will start flashing.

3. Enter the Program Change number (1 to 128) using the keys marked 0 to 9. You can enter up to three digits.

4. Press the key (ENTER/YES) to confirm. The PROG buttons will flash, and the unit will exit EDIT mode.

After sending a specific number, the PROG up and down buttons will work sequentially from that point.

The IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 can send MIDI CC# 121 + 123 to reset all controllers and stop all notes, which is useful for stuck notes or controller issues.

To do this:

1. Enter EDIT mode.

2. Press the key (ALL NOTES OFF).

Both PROG buttons will flash to show the reset has been sent, and the unit will automatically exit EDIT mode.

You can transpose the IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 keyboard in semitones. This is useful for playing in a different key without changing your fingering.

To transpose the keyboard:

1. Enter EDIT mode.

2. Press the key (TRANSP), both OCT buttons will start flashing.

3. Press any note on the keyboard. From this moment on, when you press a C key, the iRig Keys 2 will send the MIDI note you just pressed.

4. Both PROG buttons will flash to confirm the transpose has been set, and the unit will automatically exit EDIT mode.

For example, to play a song in D# as if it were in C, enter EDIT mode, press TRANSP, and then press any D# key on the keyboard. Now, pressing a C key will produce a D# MIDI note.

You can reset each of the four SETs independently to its original factory state.

To reset a SET:

1. Load the SET you would like to reset by pressing the SET button until the correct SET is selected.

2. Enter EDIT mode.

3. Press the key (RESET).

Both PROG buttons will flash to show the SET has been reset, and the unit will automatically exit EDIT mode.

The IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 has 4 user-configurable presets called SETS that can be recalled quickly.

5.1 How to load a SET

To load any of the four SETs, just press the SET button. Each time the SET button is pressed, the iRig Keys 2 loads the NEXT SET, cycling this way: -> SET 1 -> SET 2 -> SET 3 -> SET 4 -> SET 1 …

5.2 How to program a SET

To program a specific SET, select it first, then set up the iRig Keys 2 as you prefer using the standard playing and Edit mode functions. Until the SET is saved, the corresponding SET’s LED will flash periodically.

5.3 How to save a SET

To store a SET so that it will permanently save all settings that you have made, HOLD the SET button for two seconds. The current SET LED will flash to confirm that the SET has been saved.

The IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 can work as a stand-alone controller when no host is connected. You can use it to control an external MIDI module via the physical MIDI OUT port by connecting the iRig Keys 2’s USB port to a power outlet using an optional USB power adapter (not included).

In this mode, all messages generated by the keyboard will be routed to the MIDI OUT port. All editing capabilities remain active, so you can still edit keyboard parameters and save sets. It is also possible to connect an external MIDI device to the MIDI IN port; in this situation, MIDI IN messages will be routed to the physical MIDI OUT port.

In this case, make sure an app that uses Core MIDI (like iGrand Piano or SampleTank from IK Multimedia) is open and running on your iOS device. To save the iOS device battery, the IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 only turns on when there is a running app that can use it.

Make sure the MIDI Transmit Channel on your IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 matches the receiving MIDI channel of your instrument. You can set the MIDI Transmit Channel in EDIT mode.

You have probably loaded a different SET. The IK MULTIMEDIA IRIG KEYS 2 has four user-configurable SETS. Press the SET button to cycle through the available SETS to find the one with your desired settings.
