The ICON PROAUDIO DUO44 LIVE USB recording interface has the following main features:

The front panel of the ICON PROAUDIO DUO44 LIVE features the following controls:

1. “Mic/Inst” Inputs 1/2: These are unbalanced instrument and mic level inputs. These hybrid connectors accept a standard 3-pin XLR plug or a 1/4″ TS connector.

2. 48V phantom power switch: Press this switch to supply +48V phantom power to the associated XLR input, suitable for most condenser microphones.

3. Input gain level controls 1/2: These potentiometers control the input level of their associated analog Mic/Inst input.

4. Master level control: This potentiometer controls the master output level of the analog outputs.

5. Headphone level control: This potentiometer controls the output level of the headphone output.

6. Headphone output: This output jack accepts a standard 1/4″ stereo TRS headphone connector.

The rear panel of the ICON PROAUDIO DUO44 LIVE has the following connectors:

1. USB 2.0 connector: Connect this to your Mac/PC/iOS device camera kit’s USB connector. Your Mac/PC must have a USB 2.0 connector to run the full speed of the device.

2. Line outputs 1/2: These are unbalanced analog outputs on standard 1/4″ unbalanced TRS connectors at +6dBU line level.

3. Smart Device I/O (Digital – Type C & Analog – 3.5mm TRRS): These ports allow you to connect your smart device and Mac/PC simultaneously. The digital Type C jack connects directly to the digital jack of a smart device (OTG adapter required). The analog TRRS stereo jack connects to a smart device’s audio I/O.

4. MIDI I/O connectors: MIDI input and output on standard 5-pin DIN connectors.

5. Power supply connector: The device is USB-bus powered. If your computer does not supply sufficient power, connect an ICON 5VDC power supply adapter to this jack. An external power adapter is needed if the device is used as a standalone unit without a Mac or PC.

The “Direct monitor” knob controls hardware direct monitoring. Turning it clockwise (“Direct out”) eliminates latency by letting you listen directly to your input signal. Turning it anti-clockwise (“Computer”) lets you listen to your input complete with effects while recording by using the extremely low-latency ASIO monitoring.

The ICON PROAUDIO DUO44 LIVE is a class-compliant device on Mac OSX, so no driver installation is needed. Follow these steps for setup:

1. Turn on your Mac. Do not connect the DUO44 Live yet.

2. Copy the “ProDriver4” software panel shortcut logo from the installation files to your desktop.

3. Launch the software control panel by clicking the shortcut logo you just copied.

4. Now connect the Duo44 Live digital audio interface to your Mac’s USB port. Note that the interface only supports USB 2.0.

5. Open the “Audio MIDI setup” window and check that the Duo44 Live device has been set up properly. You can select it as the device for sound input and output.

The mixer control panel on a Mac for the ICON PROAUDIO DUO44 LIVE works like a matrix mixer, allowing you to route any input to any output. Here are the functions:

1. HW Input 1/2 level metering: Shows the hardware 1/2 input level.

2. HW Output 1/2 level metering: Shows the hardware 1/2 output level.

3. S/PDIF In 3/4: Shows the S/PDIF 3/4 input level.

4. S/PDIF Out 3/4: Shows the S/PDIF 3/4 output level.

5. Link switch: Switch to adjust both channels’ levels simultaneously.

6. Mute switch: Switch to mute the corresponding channel.

7. “0dB” switch: Switch to instantly adjust the corresponding channel to “0dB” level.

8. Gain control fader: Slide to adjust the gain level for the corresponding channel.

9. Inputs & Outputs Matrix switches: Switch to turn On/Off the corresponding input channel route to the corresponding output channel.

Follow these step-by-step procedures to install the Windows driver for your ICON PROAUDIO DUO44 LIVE:

1. Turn on your computer. Do not connect the Duo44 Live audio interface to your computer yet.

2. Download the Windows driver from your personal user page after registering the product.

3. After downloading the driver file, click it to start the installation process.

4. The Installation Wizard will appear. Choose “Next” on the Welcome Screen.

5. On the License Agreement screen, click “I Agree” to proceed.

6. Select the components for installation. It is strongly recommended to select all components. Click “Install”.

7. The installation process will start. Wait for the process to finish.

8. You will see a “Windows Security” message asking if you would like to install the device software. Click “Install” to proceed. This message will appear three times for three different drivers.

9. A “Setup completed” window will appear. Choose “Finish”.

10. Launch the software control panel by clicking the ICON ProAudio logo on the system tray.

11. Now connect the Duo44 Live digital audio interface to your computer’s USB port.

ProDriver4 is the re-engineered audio system for ICON Pro Audio devices like the DUO44 LIVE. It provides reliable tools for stage, studio, and streaming applications. It features a redesigned user interface for the ProDriver Audio Control Center, allowing easy routing and redirection of audio from any source in your computer with a virtual signal router. It also includes the ProDriver Plugin Host to connect VST, Audio Units, and Direct X plugins, which can be run in standalone mode or with a DAW.

The mixer control panel on Windows uses two different audio drivers, WDM (Windows Driver Model) and ASIO (Audio Stream Input and Output). The terminology for channel types is as follows:

1. HW IN (Hardware Channel IN): The hardware input channels, including microphones or instrument inputs.

2. HW Out (Hardware Channel OUT): The hardware output channels, including the headphone or line out channels.

3. VC Out (Virtual Channel OUT): An ASIO-only virtual channel where its output signal goes to ASIO VC IN.

4. VC IN (Virtual Channel IN): An ASIO-only virtual channel where its input signal comes from ASIO VC Out.

5. LoopBack (LoopBack Channel): An ASIO internal loopback channel (e.g., ASIO VC Out signal goes to ASIO VC IN).

The mixer panel allows manipulation of these different ASIO channel types:

1. Duo44 Live Hardware channels (HW In 1/2 & HW Out 1/2): The hardware input and output channels on the device.

2. Duo44 Live Virtual channels (VC In 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6), (VC Out 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6): The input and output virtual channels related to WDM.

3. Duo44 Live Loopback channels (LB 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6): The ASIO loop-back channels.

The Windows mixer control panel allows you to route signals by activating different cross points. Here are its functions:

1. HW Input 1/2 level metering: Shows the hardware 1/2 input level.

2. HW Output 1/2 level metering: Shows the hardware 1/2 output level.

3. VC In 1/2 (Virtual) input level metering: Shows the WDM 1/2 output level.

4. VC In 3/4 (Virtual) input level metering: Shows the WDM 3/4 output level.

5. VC Out 1/2 (Virtual) output level metering: Shows the ASIO 1/2 VC output level.

6. VC Out 3/4 (Virtual) output level metering: Shows the ASIO 3/4 VC output level.

7. VSC In 1/2 (Virtual) input level metering: Shows the WDM 1/2 output level.

8. VSC Music In 1/2 (Virtual) input level metering: Shows the WDM 1/2 output level.

9. VSC Out 1/2 (Virtual) output level metering: Shows the ASIO 1/2 VC output level.

10. VSC Music Out 1/2 (Virtual) output level metering: Shows the ASIO 1/2 VC output level.

11. Loopback 1/2: Shows the ASIO loop-back 1/2 channel’s level metering.

12. Loopback 3/4: Shows the ASIO loop-back 3/4 channel’s level metering.

13. Loopback 5/6: Shows the ASIO loop-back 5/6 channel’s level metering.

14. Link switch: Switch to adjust both channels’ levels simultaneously.

15. Mute switch: Switch to mute the corresponding channel.

16. “0dB” switch: Switch to instantly adjust the corresponding channel to “0dB” level.

17. Gain control fader: Slide to adjust the gain level for the corresponding channel.

18. Inputs & Outputs Matrix switches: Switch to turn On/Off the corresponding input channel route to the corresponding output channel.

19. Mixer Presets: 6 button slots are available for saving or loading your routing channel settings.

Click the “Setting” button in the ProDriver4 control panel to launch the settings window. From there you can adjust the following:

Sample rate setting: Select your desired sampling rate from 44.1KHz to 192KHz on the pull-down window.

Latency settings: There are six standard latency settings to select from: Safe (maximum latency), Extra Large, Normal, Small, Very Small, and Minimum (minimum latency). If you would like to customize your own latency value, select “Custom”.

After selecting “Custom” in the Latency Settings, you can adjust three different values to customize your latency:

1. ASIO buffer Size: You may adjust the value ranging from 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, and 4096.

2. Streaming buffer Size: Adjustable settings are Minimum, Low, Normal, High, and Maximum.

3. Streaming buffer volume: Adjustable values are 2, 3, and 4.

Note: If a warning message appears on the “Latency Status” window, please adjust to a larger latency setting.

Note: If a clicking sound occurs, you should change to a larger buffer size for the settings. If the largest buffer size has been selected and there is still a clicking sound, it means your computer’s performance is not able to handle the task. This is not caused by the Duo44 Live digital audio interface.

With the ProDriver4 Rack on Windows, you can use any of your plug-ins with your DAW. Alternatively, you may use your ICON PROAUDIO DUO44 LIVE as a standalone plug-ins effector without the need to run a DAW.

General Connections:

• Connect the Duo44 Live’s outputs to your amplifier, powered monitors, or surround system.

• For monitoring through headphones, connect your headphones to the device’s headphone output.

• Connect your microphones, instruments, or other line-level analog sources to the device’s analog inputs on the front panel.

• Connect your MIDI device to the MIDI I/O on the rear panel.

Microphone Connections:

• Dynamic Microphone: Connect using a 1/4″ TR Unbalanced cable or an XLR Balanced cable to the Mic/Inst inputs.

• Condenser Microphone: Connect using an XLR Balanced cable to the Mic/Inst inputs. You must press the +48V phantom power switch to provide power to the microphone.

Note: For dynamic microphone users, please make sure the +48V phantom power switch is “OFF” before you plug in your microphone, otherwise it may cause damage to your microphone.
