Please observe the following safety warnings when using your HAIER BD-142H chest freezer:

WARNING: Keep ventilation openings, in the appliance enclosure or in the built-in structure, clear of obstruction.

WARNING: Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate the defrosting process other than those recommended by the manufacturer.

WARNING: Do not damage the refrigerant circuit.

WARNING: Do not use electrical appliances inside the food storage compartment of the appliance, unless they are of the type recommended by the manufacturer.

Additionally, if the power cable is damaged, an approved cable provided by a manufacturer or a service agent must be used for replacement. After installation, the plug should be easily accessible.

To ensure proper performance of your HAIER BD-142H, follow these installation guidelines:

1. Strictly avoid high ambient temperatures and direct sunlight. Place your appliance in a cool, well-aired, dry room.

2. Avoid installing the freezer near a heat source like a heater or oven, as this increases power consumption.

3. If installation near a heat source is unavoidable, fit a suitable insulation plate (do not use asbestos) and observe the following minimum distances:

– From a gas or electric cooker: 3 cm

– From a radiator or oven: 5 cm

– From a wall, piece of furniture, or another appliance: 2 cm

4. Never obstruct the ventilation grille if your model has one. For models without a ventilation grille, leave sufficient space between the rear of the appliance and the wall to allow warm air to escape.

5. The appliance must be placed horizontally and on a leveled base to ensure an unimpeded circuit of the refrigerant and optimum function.

IMPORTANT! Leave the HAIER BD-142H standing in its final position for at least 2 hours before switching it on. This allows the refrigerant circuit to stabilize and prevents operating problems.

Before connecting the appliance, ensure the inner area, especially the corners, is absolutely dry. Thoroughly clean the interior compartment with a mixture of lukewarm water and vinegar to remove the typical new appliance odor. Do not use washing liquids, sharp or granular cleaning implements, or any cleaning products containing soda.

Connection to Power Supply:

Your appliance must be connected to a power socket with a grounded connection that conforms to respective standards and has been installed by an authorized specialist. Before plugging it in, make sure the voltage (V) on the appliance’s rating plate corresponds with that of your mains supply. If the voltage differs, contact your after-sales service or dealer immediately and do not connect the appliance.

Temperature Selection (Thermostat):

The temperature control switches the appliance on and off and sets the cooling temperature. The control is intentionally resistant to turning to prevent accidental changes; use a coin or screwdriver to adjust the setting.

The temperature is factory preset for satisfactory food storage. You can adjust it between:

– Min. / minimum number: for slight cooling.

– Max. / maximum number: for the lowest temperature.

A medium setting is recommended. Temperature settings should be based on ambient temperature, quantity of stored food, and frequency of opening.

1. Fully unpack the appliance.

2. Remove the polystyrene parts in the compressor chamber (if supplied).

3. Remove documents and any accessories from inside the appliance.

4. Clean the interior with a mixture of lukewarm water and vinegar, and dry thoroughly with a cloth.

5. Close the appliance.

6. Insert the plug into the socket.

7. Switch on the appliance by turning the temperature control to the right to the Max position (the green and red lights should go on).

8. If equipped with a SUPER FREEZE SWITCH, turn it on (the yellow light should also go on).

9. Do not open the appliance for about 4 hours, or until the red light turns off, to allow the temperature to drop.

10. You can now fill the appliance with deep frozen food (purchased ready-frozen goods).

11. Turn off the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH after 24 hours at the latest.

12. If you wish to freeze fresh, unfrozen food, proceed as per the “Freezing/storage of fresh food” instructions.

The indicator lights on your HAIER BD-142H have the following meanings:

– GREEN = CONTROL: The appliance is connected to power and is operating. The green light must always be on when the appliance is plugged in and switched on.

– RED = ALARM: The interior temperature is too high. This is normal during the first start-up, after defrosting, or when filling with fresh food. It should go off automatically when the temperature reaches approximately -15°C. If the red light stays on for more than 12 to 24 hours, there may be a serious problem.

– YELLOW = SUPER FREEZE SWITCH is on: When the SUPER FREEZE switch is turned on, the thermostat function is disabled, and the compressor cools continuously. Turn this switch off when no longer needed.

If your appliance has a warning buzzer, it will sound when the red indicator light is on. The buzzer is silenced automatically when you turn on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH.

Pack fresh products in portions suitable for your household. Label the portions clearly with at least the following information:

– Product name (e.g., beef fillet)

– Weight of portion

– Quantity (total of pieces)

– Freezing date

– Use by date (consumption date)

Then follow these steps:

a) Place fresh foods in the pre-freezing compartment at the side or on the bottom of the freezer, which is the coldest part. Avoid putting fresh foods in direct contact with already frozen food.

b) Only fill quantities of fresh food suitable for the freezing capacity of your appliance (see rating plate for XX kg/24h) within a 24-hour period.

c) If available, switch on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH.

d) After 24 hours, move the now deep-frozen goods to a hanging basket to make space for freezing additional fresh foods.

e) Turn off the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (the yellow light will go off).

f) Set the temperature control according to the filling capacity.

g) Keep the storage temperature at -18°C or colder. You can monitor this by placing a thermometer inside.

To save energy when operating your HAIER BD-142H in normal ambient temperatures (+18 to +22°C), use the following recommended settings for the temperature control:

To ensure correct storage of frozen food, never fill the storage shelf up to the edge. Always allow space between the lid and the frozen foods.

Precautions and Advice:

– Always remove the power plug before cleaning or defrosting.

– After closing the freezer lid, do not force it open. A vacuum seal will release after 1-2 minutes, allowing the lid to be opened normally.

– To prevent condensation, allow cooked food to cool to room temperature before storing.

– Leave the freezer lid open as briefly as possible to save energy.

– Do not use a screwdriver or other sharp metal objects to remove ice. Use only plastic or wooden scrapers.

Cleaning and Maintenance:

– For the exterior, clean occasionally with furniture polish or an enamel protecting product. Never use these on the inside.

– Clean the lid seal (B) with warm water as needed.

– If your appliance has a condenser in the rear, remove dust from it from time to time with a light brush or duster to improve efficiency.

– If leaving the appliance out of use for an extended period, leave it open to prevent odors from building up.

Under normal conditions (3 to 4 openings per day), the freezer should be defrosted once or twice a year. Layers of ice and frost act as insulation and must be removed.

Danger Warnings: Never use electrical appliances like a hair dryer, fan heater, or devices with a naked flame (e.g., candles) to defrost the chest freezer.

Procedure:

1. Get a suitable non-metallic container (e.g., a plastic container or wash-basket).

2. Make absolutely sure that you remove the plug from the power socket.

3. Dry your hands thoroughly to prevent skin damage from contact with ice (use gloves).

4. Remove all frozen food, roll it firmly in newspaper, and place it in the container in a cool, dry room.

5. Cover the container with a thick blanket.

6. Lift the divider upwards out of the guide-rail (if equipped).

7. Use the divider as a defrosting dish under the defrosting water drain-plug.

8. Pull the drain-plug out of the freezer bottom (if provided).

9. Scrape the thickest ice carefully from the inside using a plastic or wood scraper and place it in the kitchen sink.

10. To speed up defrosting, you can place a large pot of warm (not too hot) water on the freezer bottom.

11. For freezers without a drain plug, continuously wipe up the water with a sponge.

12. Thoroughly clean the inside with a mixture of warm water and vinegar, then rinse with clear water.

13. Wipe the freezer completely dry with an absorbent cloth and allow it to air for 3 to 4 minutes.

14. Replace the drain-plug (if provided).

15. Empty the defrosting water dish and slide it back as a divider.

16. Close the chest lid and plug it back into the socket.

17. Set the temperature control to the maximum setting (green and red lamps go on) and switch on the SUPER FREEZE SWITCH (if provided) (yellow lamp lights additionally).

18. Now refill the frozen food, placing the oldest items at the top. Carry out steps 1 to 17 within a maximum of two hours to prevent food from defrosting.

19. When the red lamp goes off, reset the temperature control to a setting suitable for the filling capacity.

20. Switch off the SUPER FREEZER SWITCH after about 8 to 12 hours, or latest after 24 hours (the yellow light will go off).

a) No function (appliance not running)

The insulation of the appliance walls provides 10 to 12 hours of storage time during a power failure. If a problem takes longer to eliminate, the food will begin to defrost. Take prompt action or shift the food to another freezer.

b) Appliance not cooling sufficiently / Freezing process too long / Compressor operating too often

Check the following possible causes and remedies:

– Initial Start-up: Did you let the appliance stand for at least 2 hours before switching it on? If not, unplug it, wait, and then follow the start-up procedure.

– Power Connection: Is the plug in good condition and properly plugged into the socket? Is the socket receiving power? (Test it with a small appliance like a hand-mixer).

– Lid Seal: Does the lid close properly? Test the seal by placing a piece of paper between the seal and the chest edge and closing the lid. It should be difficult to pull the paper out. If it comes out easily on one or more sides, contact after-sales service.

– Ice Formation: Is there heavy ice formation on the inner walls? If so, defrost the appliance.

– Location: Is the appliance exposed to direct sunlight or installed near a heat source? Protect it from direct sunlight and check the distance to heat sources.

– Overfilling: Did you fill in too much warm food, exceeding the freezing capacity (XXkg/24h) listed on the rating plate?
