Before using your FRIEDRICH CHILL+ (CHILLPLUS) EP12, ensure the following:

Wiring Adequacy: Make sure the wiring is adequate for your unit. If you use fuses, they should be the time-delay type. The amperage rating of the circuit breaker or time-delay fuse should not exceed the amp rating of the unit.

No Extension Cords: DO NOT use an extension cord. The power cord provided is designed to carry the proper amount of electrical power to the unit.

Receptacle Compatibility: Ensure the wall receptacle is compatible with the three-prong plug provided with the air conditioner. This ensures proper grounding. If you have a two-prong receptacle, it must be replaced by a certified electrician with a properly grounded circuit that meets all national and local codes.

Power Cord Device Test: The power cord may include a current interrupter device with “TEST” and “RESET” buttons. Test this device periodically by first pressing the TEST button and then the RESET button. If the TEST button does not trip or the RESET button does not stay engaged, discontinue use of the air conditioner and contact a qualified service technician.

Keep the filter clean: Regularly clean the air filter to keep your air conditioner in top performing condition. Instructions for filter removal and cleaning can be found in your manual.

Provide good air flow: Ensure that the airflow to and from the unit is clear. The unit puts air out at the side and takes air in at the left. It is critical that airflow is not blocked, both inside and outside the building.

Unit Placement: If possible, place the unit in a window or wall that is shaded by a tree or another building. This will help the unit operate more efficiently. Using drapes or blinds on the sunny side of the dwelling will also add to your unit’s efficiency.

Insulation: Good insulation helps maintain desirable comfort levels. Ensure doors have weather stripping and caulk around doors and windows.

To prevent injury and property damage, follow these important safety instructions:

Power Connection:

• Plug the power plug in properly to avoid electric shock or fire from heat generation.

• Do not operate or stop the unit by inserting or pulling out the power plug.

• Do not use a damaged or unspecified power cord. If the cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or a certified service agent.

• Do not modify the power cord length.

Operation:

• Do not operate with wet hands or in a damp environment.

• Do not direct airflow directly at room occupants, as this could lead to health problems.

• Do not operate the unit without the air filter or when the front intake grille has been removed.

• Do not put a pet or house plant where it will be exposed to direct airflow.

• Unplug the unit before cleaning it. Since the fan rotates at high speed, this prevents injury.

Maintenance and Cleaning:

• Do not apply an insecticide or flammable spray to the unit.

Handling:

• The edges of the case can be sharp. Use caution and heavy gloves if necessary when handling the case. Do not allow the case to slide against your skin.

1. POWER: Press this button to start the air conditioner. Press it again to stop the unit.

2. AUTO SWING: This button automatically controls the airflow direction.

3. TEMPERATURE CONTROL: The thermostat maintains the desired room temperature. It can be set between 60°F and 86°F (16°C and 30°C).

4. CHECK FILTER & FILTER RESET: The ‘Check Filter’ LED will light up after about 250 hours of operation to remind you to clean the filter. To reset the light after cleaning, press the ‘Temp ∨’ and ‘Temp ∧’ buttons together. This reset must be done from the unit’s control panel, not the remote control.

5. FAN SPEED SELECTOR: Select a higher fan speed for increased cooling power. The available speeds are Low and High.

6. OPERATION MODE SELECTOR: Push the ‘Mode’ button to cycle through the available modes: MoneySaver → Cool → Fan Only → Heat.

7. ON/OFF TIMER: Use this to set a time for the unit to automatically turn on or off.

8. REMOTE CONTROL SENSOR: This sensor on the unit receives signals from the remote controller.

Your FRIEDRICH CHILL+ (CHILLPLUS) EP12 has several operating modes. You can select them using the ‘Mode’ button on the unit or remote control:

MoneySaver: In this mode, the fan will stop when the compressor stops cooling. The fan will then turn on for approximately every 3 minutes to sample the room air and determine if more cooling is needed. The remote control has a dedicated MoneySaver button.

Cool: The fan runs continuously for normal cooling operation.

Fan Only: This mode provides fan-only operation without cooling.

Heat: The fan runs continuously for normal heat operation.

The timer allows you to set the unit to turn on or off automatically.

To set the ON Timer:

When the unit is off, use the Timer to set the number of hours before you want the unit to start. Push the Timer button to advance the setting in one-hour increments (1hr, 2hrs, etc.) up to a maximum of 24 hours.

To set the OFF Timer:

When the unit is running, use the Timer to set the number of hours until you want the unit to shut off. This is useful for when you are sleeping. Push the Timer button to advance the setting from 1 hour up to a maximum of 24 hours.

To Clear the Timer:

On the remote control, the ‘Timer Clear’ button will cancel any timer setting.

1. Push out the cover on the back of the remote control with your thumb.

2. Pay attention to the polarity markings and insert two new AAA 1.5V batteries.

3. Reattach the cover.

NOTE: Do not use rechargeable batteries. Make sure both batteries are new. To prevent discharge, remove the batteries from the remote if the air conditioner will not be used for an extended period. Keep the remote away from extremely hot or humid places and do not expose the remote sensor to direct sunlight for optimal operation.

You can adjust the airflow in several ways:

Vent Control:

• For maximum cooling efficiency, CLOSE the vent. This allows for internal air circulation.

• To discharge stale air, OPEN the vent.

Adjusting Horizontal Air Flow Direction:

Adjust the vertical louvers left and right to change the horizontal airflow direction.

Adjusting Vertical Air Flow Direction:

Adjust the horizontal louver up and down to change the vertical airflow. The louver can be adjusted by pressing in at the top or bottom of the horizontal louver.

The air filter should be checked and cleaned at least once every 2 weeks to maintain optimal performance. Before cleaning, turn the power off and unplug the unit.

1. Open the inlet grille upward by pulling out the bottom of the inlet grille.

2. Remove the air filter from the front grille assembly by pulling the air filter up slightly.

3. Wash the filter using lukewarm water below 104°F (40°C).

4. Gently shake the excess water from the filter. Once it is completely dry, replace the filter.

The base pan of the unit may overflow due to high humidity, which is part of normal operation. To drain this excess water, you can remove the drain cap from the back of the unit and secure the drainpipe. When pressing the drainpipe into place, apply force in the direction away from the fins to avoid injury.

Your air conditioner may exhibit the following characteristics during normal operation:

• You may hear a pinging noise caused by water being picked up and thrown against the condenser on rainy or high-humidity days. This design feature helps remove moisture and improve efficiency.

• You may hear the thermostat click when the compressor cycles on and off.

• Water will collect in the base pan during high humidity or on rainy days. This water may overflow and drip from the outdoor side of the unit.

• The fan may run even when the compressor is not running.

• The air conditioner is designed to cool in warm weather when the outside temperature is above 60°F (16°C) and below 109°F (43°C).
