The necessary tools for setting up the EXTREME 5120-44X-4Y-2C-AC-R are:

1. #2 Phillips screwdriver (a magnetic screwdriver is recommended)

2. ESD-protective wrist strap

The installation site for the EXTREME 5120-44X-4Y-2C-AC-R must meet the following requirements:

• Appropriately grounded power receptacles located within 1.8 m (6 ft.)

• A readily accessible device for disconnecting power, such as a breaker or master switch

• Network cabling within reach

• Ensure that the vent openings on the front panel and the rear fan modules are not blocked for proper ventilation

• Temperature between 0°C (32°F) and 50°C (122°F), or as noted in “Operating Conditions”, with fluctuations of less than 10°C (18°F) per hour.

After unpacking the EXTREME 5120-44X-4Y-2C-AC-R, you should verify that all of the following components are included:

Note: Console cables can be ordered separately.

The EXTREME 5120-44X-4Y-2C-AC-R can be installed in a standard 19-inch equipment rack. To install it in a two-post rack, follow these steps:

1. Attach a mounting bracket to each side of the switch. You can attach the brackets at the front of the switch (flush-mount or mid-mount) or at the middle of the switch.

2. Secure the brackets to the rack posts using rack-mounting screws and nuts that are appropriate for the rack (provided). The switch can be mounted to the two front posts or the two rear posts as shown.

Note: The two-post mounting kit accommodates rack posts 3 inches or 6 inches wide. The rack mount kit supports flush-mounting and mid-mounting.

To connect the EXTREME 5120-44X-4Y-2C-AC-R to a primary power source:

1. Connect the AC power cord to the AC power input socket on the power supply and an AC power outlet.

2. When power is connected, verify that the switch’s PWR LED turns green.

Note: Installing the system as described meets protective earth grounding requirements. However, in some cases, an alternative grounding method may be necessary. In these cases, a 14 AWG wire can be connected between the grounding lug on the chassis and a nearby building ground point.

You should upgrade to a generally available (GA) version of the software before using the EXTREME 5120-44X-4Y-2C-AC-R. Switch Engine is the default operating system (OS) for the 5120 Series. To connect the switch to the network, upgrade it, and configure it for use, follow the steps in the Extreme 5120 Hardware Installation Guide.

One fan failure:

For the 5120-44X-4Y-2C model (which includes the EXTREME 5120-44X-4Y-2C-AC-R):

• 0°C (32°F) to 50°C (122°F) at sea level and 45°C (113°F) at 3000 m (10,000 ft), front-to-back airflow

• 0°C (32°F) to 45°C (113°F) at sea level and 40°C (104°F) at 3000 m (10,000 ft), back-to-front airflow

For the 5120-24X-4Y model:

• 0°C (32°F) to 50°C (122°F) at sea level and at 3000 m (10,000 ft), front-to-back airflow

• 0°C (32°F) to 50°C (122°F) at sea level and 45°C (113°F) at 3000 m (10,000 ft), back-to-front airflow

For the 5120-24XT-4Y model:

• 0°C (32°F) to 50°C (122°F) up to 3000 m (10,000 ft), front-to-back and back-to-front airflow

Storage Temperature: -40°C to 70°C (-40°F to 158°F)

Operating Relative Humidity: 5% to 95% (non-condensing)

Each Extreme 5120 Series switch, including the EXTREME 5120-44X-4Y-2C-AC-R, includes a Micro-B USB serial console port, an RJ-45 serial console port, a 100/1000BASE-T out-of-band management port, and a USB Type A storage port. The specific interfaces for each switch are listed below:

Please observe the following safety notices when working with the EXTREME 5120-44X-4Y-2C-AC-R:

• Electrical Hazard: Only qualified instructed or skilled personnel should perform installation, repair, or disassembly procedures.

• Power Supplies: Extreme Networks power supplies do not have switches for turning the unit on and off. Before servicing, disconnect all power cords to remove power from the device. Make sure that these connections are easily accessible.

• Installation Location: This equipment is designed for installation in restricted access locations and suitable for installation in Information Technology Rooms, not suitable for use in locations where children are likely to be present.

• Circuit Breaker: A dedicated Listed circuit breaker rated at 15A is to be used for each power supply connection.

• Mounting Stability: Before mounting the device, ensure that the rack can support it without compromising stability. Otherwise, personal injury or equipment damage may result.

• ESD: Follow appropriate ESD procedures when unpacking and handling the switch. These include unpacking the switch in an ESD-safe environment and wearing appropriate ESD protective gear, such as ESD-safe footwear and ESD wrist straps where appropriate.

• Indoor Use: This unit must be installed indoors. The unit, AC power adapter, and its cables are not designed for outdoor use.

• Radiation Exposure: Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure.

• Laser Safety: Do not use optical instruments to view the laser output. The use of optical instruments to view laser output increases eye hazard. Use only UL/CSA, IEC/EN60825-1/-2 recognized pluggable modules.

• Shock Hazard: Disconnect all power inputs before servicing.

• Battery: This product contains a battery used to maintain product information. If the battery should need replacement it must be replaced by Service Personnel. Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Dispose of expended battery in accordance with local disposal regulations.
