How do I install the EXTREME 5120-24X-4Y-AC-R switch?

You can install any 5120 Series switch in a standard 19-inch equipment rack.

The 5120 kit supports a two-post mount in a two-post rack. The switch can also be installed in a four-post rack, using just the two front posts for a flush-mount or the two rear posts for a rear flush-mount. The mid-rack kit supports flush-mounting and mid-mounting.


How do I attach a mounting kit to the EXTREME 5120-24X-4Y-AC-R for a two-post mount?

To attach a mounting kit for the EXTREME 5120-24X-4Y-AC-R, follow these steps:

1. Attach a mounting bracket to each side of the switch. You can attach the brackets in a flush-mount, mid-mount, or rear flush-mount configuration.

2. Secure the brackets to the rack posts using rack-mounting screws (not provided with the switch). Note that for a four-post rack, the switch can be mounted to the two front posts or the two rear posts as shown.


How do I connect the EXTREME 5120-24X-4Y-AC-R to a primary AC power source?

To connect the switch to a power source, do the following:

1. Attach the power cord clip to the switch.

2. Connect the power cord to the primary power source on the switch and to an AC power outlet.

3. After the switch has powered on, the PWR LED will illuminate green. If the PWR LED does not turn green, refer to the Extreme 5120 Hardware Installation Guide for troubleshooting information.

Note: Some models have protective earth grounding requirements to meet the NEBS standard. The grounding stud is used for this protective earth wire. However, in some cases, it may be necessary to ground the switch to the rack using this wire. This ground wire can be connected between the grounding stud on the switch and the central grounding point for the rack.


How do I update and configure the software on the EXTREME 5120-24X-4Y-AC-R?

Upgrade to a generally available (GA) version of the software. For the 5120 Series switch, install the VOSS version of the system (SS) for the 5120 Series. To connect the switch to the network, refer to the “Connecting to the Network” topic in the Extreme 5120 Hardware Installation Guide.
