The necessary tools for installing the EXTREME 5120-24X-4Y-AC-R are:

1. #2 Phillips screwdriver (a magnetic screwdriver is recommended)

2. ESD-protective wrist strap

The site for the EXTREME 5120-24X-4Y-AC-R must meet the following requirements:

• Appropriately grounded power receptacles must be available nearby.

• An easily accessible disconnect device for building power, such as a breaker or master switch, should be incorporated in the wiring.

• Ensure that the vent openings on the front and back of the unit are not restricted or blocked for proper ventilation.

• Operate the switch between 0°C (32°F) and 50°C (122°F) – or as noted in “Operating Conditions” – with fluctuations of no more than 10°C (18°F) per hour.

After unpacking the box for the EXTREME 5120-24X-4Y-AC-R, verify that all of the following components are included:

You can install any 5120 Series switch in a standard 19-inch equipment rack.

The 5120 kit supports a two-post mount in a two-post rack. The switch can also be installed in a four-post rack, using just the two front posts for a flush-mount or the two rear posts for a rear flush-mount. The mid-rack kit supports flush-mounting and mid-mounting.

To attach a mounting kit for the EXTREME 5120-24X-4Y-AC-R, follow these steps:

1. Attach a mounting bracket to each side of the switch. You can attach the brackets in a flush-mount, mid-mount, or rear flush-mount configuration.

2. Secure the brackets to the rack posts using rack-mounting screws (not provided with the switch). Note that for a four-post rack, the switch can be mounted to the two front posts or the two rear posts as shown.

To connect the switch to a power source, do the following:

1. Attach the power cord clip to the switch.

2. Connect the power cord to the primary power source on the switch and to an AC power outlet.

3. After the switch has powered on, the PWR LED will illuminate green. If the PWR LED does not turn green, refer to the Extreme 5120 Hardware Installation Guide for troubleshooting information.

Note: Some models have protective earth grounding requirements to meet the NEBS standard. The grounding stud is used for this protective earth wire. However, in some cases, it may be necessary to ground the switch to the rack using this wire. This ground wire can be connected between the grounding stud on the switch and the central grounding point for the rack.

Upgrade to a generally available (GA) version of the software. For the 5120 Series switch, install the VOSS version of the system (SS) for the 5120 Series. To connect the switch to the network, refer to the “Connecting to the Network” topic in the Extreme 5120 Hardware Installation Guide.

Electrical Hazard: Only qualified personnel should perform installation procedures. This product must be grounded. DANGER OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK. Extreme Networks power supplies do not have switches for disconnecting the AC main power. The branch circuit that provides power to the unit must have a readily accessible disconnect device that is code compliant.

Installation: This equipment is designed for installation in restricted access locations. This equipment is designed for installation when connected to a TN power system. This equipment should be installed in accordance with articles 66 of the National Electrical code and NFP 75. A readily accessible disconnect device shall be incorporated external to the equipment. Handling: This equipment should be installed, replaced, and serviced by trained and authorized personnel only. Before you install, replace, or service this equipment, you must read the safety information. This unit may contain a laser that emits hazardous radiation. Always assume that a fiber-optic cable has a laser beam emitting from it. The use of optical instruments with this product will increase eye hazard. Use care when unpacking the switch in an ESD-safe environment. Be sure to use an ESD wrist strap and follow all normal ESD procedures when unpacking and handling the switch. Each Extreme 5120 Series switch contains a micro-B USB serial console port, an RJ-45 serial console port, a 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 out-of-band management port, a USB Type A port, S120 Series switches are line-rate with an on-board CPU.
