General Information Notations

[Button name]: Indicates the name of the buttons on the remote control or the projector. Example: [Esc] button.

Menu/Setting name: Indicates projector menu and setting names. Example: Select the Image menu.

The PDF manual for your EPSON EB-W51 allows you to search for information by keyword, jump directly to sections using bookmarks, or print only specific pages.

Searching by Keyword

1. In your PDF reader, click Edit > Advanced Search.

2. Enter the keyword (text) for the information you want to find in the search window, and then click Search.

3. Hits are displayed as a list. Click one of the displayed hits to jump to that page.

Jumping Directly from Bookmarks

1. Click a title in the bookmarks panel to jump to that page.

Printing Only the Pages You Need

1. Click Print in the File menu.

2. In the “Pages to Print” section, specify the pages you want to print.

– To specify a series of pages, enter a hyphen between the start and end page (Example: 20-25).

– To specify pages that are not in series, separate the pages with commas (Example: 5, 10, 15).

The EPSON EB-W51 projector includes several features for a quick and easy setup.

Quick and Easy Setup

• Direct Power On feature to turn on the projector as soon as you plug it in.

• Auto Power On feature to turn on the projector when it detects an image signal from the specified Auto Power On source port.

• Home screen feature to easily select an input source and useful functions.

• Automatic vertical keystone correction (Auto V-Keystone) to always display a rectangular screen.

• Horizontal keystone slider to quickly correct horizontal distortion in the projected image.

Easy Wireless Projection

• Epson iProjection (Windows/Mac) allows projection of up to four images at the same time by splitting the projected screen. You can project images from computers on the network, or from smartphones or tablet devices.

• Epson iProjection (iOS/Android) allows you to connect your projector and mobile device wirelessly using the app.

• Epson iProjection (Chromebook) allows you to connect your projector and Chromebook device wirelessly using the app.

A/V Mute slide lever	Slide the knob to open and close the lens cover.
Foot release lever	Press to extend and retract the front adjustable foot.
Lens cover	Protects the lens when not in use. Closing it during projection hides the image and sound.
Front adjustable foot	Extend this foot to adjust the vertical position of the image when the projector is on a desk.

Horizontal keystone slider	Corrects horizontal distortion in the projected image.
Air intake vent (air filter)	Takes in air to cool the projector internally.

The EPSON EB-W51 has a variety of ports for connecting different devices. The following table describes the ports on the rear of the projector.

The control panel allows you to operate the main functions of the EPSON EB-W51.

[Esc] button	Stops the current function. Moves back to the previous menu level.
Volume buttons and arrow buttons	Decreases or increases the volume. Corrects keystone distortion in the horizontal direction when the Keystone screen is displayed. Selects menu items in the projector’s menu or help.
[Menu] button	Displays and closes the projector’s menu.
[Home] button	Displays and closes the Home screen.
Power button	Turns the projector on or off.
Indicators	Indicates the projector’s status (Status, Lamp, Temp).

[ID] button	Hold down this button and press the numeric buttons to select the ID for the projector you want to operate.
[LAN] button	Switches the image source between network connected devices.
[USB] button	Switches the image source between the USB Display and USB-A port.
[Source Search] button	Switches to the next input source.
Remote control light emitting area	Outputs remote control signals.

You can place the EPSON EB-W51 on almost any flat surface or install it in a ceiling mount. When selecting a location, note the following points:

• Place the projector on a sturdy, level surface or install it using a compatible mount.

• Leave plenty of space around and under the projector for ventilation, and do not place it on top of or next to anything that could block the vents.

• Place the projector so it squarely faces the screen, not at an angle. For best quality, adjust the installation position to achieve the correct image size and shape before using keystone correction.

Projector Setup and Installation Options

You can set up or install your projector in the following ways:

• Front/Rear: Place on a table in front of or behind the screen.

• Front Ceiling/Rear Ceiling: Suspend from the ceiling in front of or behind the screen.

Make sure you select the correct Projection option in the projector’s Extended menu to match your installation method.

You can connect your computer to the EPSON EB-W51 projector using a VGA cable for video and a separate audio cable for sound.

1. Connect the VGA computer cable to your computer’s monitor port.

2. Connect the other end to a Computer port on the projector.

3. Tighten the screws on the VGA connector.

4. Connect a 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack audio cable to your laptop’s headphone or audio-out jack, or your desktop’s speaker or audio-out port.

5. Connect the other end to the Audio port that corresponds to the Computer port you are using on the projector.

If your computer meets the system requirements, you can send video and audio to the EPSON EB-W51 projector through a single USB cable using the USB Display function.

1. Connect the USB cable to your projector’s USB-B port.

2. Connect the other end to any available USB port on your computer.

3. Turn on the projector and your computer.

4. The first time you connect, you will need to install the Epson USB Display software:

• Windows: Select Run EMP_UDSE.EXE in the dialog box that is displayed to install the software.

• Mac: The Epson USB Display setup folder is displayed. Select USB Display Installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

5. Follow any on-screen instructions. Do not disconnect the USB cable or turn off the projector until the projector displays an image.

The projector will display the image from your computer’s desktop and output sound if your presentation contains audio.

If your computer or video source has an HDMI port, you can connect it to the EPSON EB-W51 projector using an HDMI cable to send both video and audio.

1. Connect the HDMI cable to your computer’s or video source’s HDMI output port.

2. Connect the other end to the projector’s HDMI port.

If you have problems hearing audio through the HDMI connection, you can connect a separate 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack audio cable from your source’s audio out port to the projector’s Audio port. You will then need to select the correct audio input port in the projector’s Extended menu.

You can project images and other content directly from a USB device without a computer using the EPSON EB-W51’s PC Free feature. You can connect a USB flash drive, digital camera, smartphone, or USB hard drive.

1. If your USB device came with a power adapter, plug the device into an electrical outlet.

2. Connect the USB cable or USB flash drive to the projector’s USB-A port.

3. If using a cable, connect the other end to your device.

Important Notes:

• Digital cameras or smartphones must be USB Mass Storage Class-compliant.

• USB hard drives must be USB Mass Storage Class-compliant, formatted in FAT16/32, and self-powered with their own AC power supplies.

• Do not use a USB hub or a USB cable longer than 3 meters.

Turning On the Projector

1. Connect the power cord to the projector’s power inlet and plug it into an electrical outlet. The power indicator will turn blue, indicating standby mode.

2. Press the power button on the control panel or remote control. The projector will beep and the status indicator will flash blue as it warms up. When it stops flashing and turns solid blue, the projector is ready.

3. Open the projector’s lens cover by sliding the A/V Mute slide lever.

4. Turn on your connected computer or video source.

Turning Off the Projector

1. Press the power button on the control panel or remote control.

2. A shutdown confirmation screen will appear. Press the power button again to confirm. (To leave it on, press any other button.)

3. The projected image disappears, the projector beeps twice, and the status indicator turns off. With Epson’s Instant Off technology, there is no cool-down period required.

4. To transport the projector, ensure the power indicator is blue (not flashing) and the status indicator is off, then unplug the power cord.

5. Close the projector’s lens cover.

The Home screen feature on your EPSON EB-W51 allows you to easily select an image source and access useful functions. You can display it by pressing the [Home] button on the control panel or remote control. It also appears automatically when you turn on the projector with no signal being input.

Use the arrow buttons to select an item, and then press [Enter].

The Home screen provides the following options:

• Source List: A list of available input sources to select for projection.

• Connection Guide: Displays wireless connection methods for devices like smartphones and computers.

• Help screen: Displays troubleshooting tips.

• Menu: Opens the projector’s main settings menu.

• Keystone: Corrects the shape of an image that is an uneven rectangle.

• Split Screen: Projects two images from different image sources simultaneously.

• ECO Settings: Performs menu options assigned to the Home Screen in the projector’s Extended menu.

• Color Mode: Performs menu options assigned to the Home Screen in the projector’s Extended menu.

The Home screen disappears after 10 minutes of inactivity.

Depending on how you have positioned the EPSON EB-W51 projector, you may need to flip the image so it projects correctly. You can change the projection mode using the projector’s menu system.

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press the [Menu] button on the control panel or remote control.

3. Select the Extended menu and press [Enter].

4. Select Projection and press [Enter].

5. Select a projection mode and press [Enter]:

• Front: For projecting from a table in front of the screen.

• Front/Ceiling: Flips the image over top-to-bottom to project upside-down from a ceiling or wall mount.

• Rear: Flips the image horizontally to project from behind a translucent screen.

• Rear/Ceiling: Flips the image over top-to-bottom and horizontally to project from a ceiling or wall mount and behind a translucent screen.

6. Press [Menu] or [Esc] to exit the menus.

If your projected image is uneven or trapezoidal because the EPSON EB-W51 is tilted or at an angle to the screen, you can correct its shape using several methods. Note that after correction, your image will be slightly smaller.

Auto V-Keystone

When the projector is moved or tilted, Auto V-Keystone automatically corrects any vertical keystone distortion. This works for projection angles of about 30º up or down when the Projection setting is set to Front.

Horizontal Keystone Slider

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Adjust the horizontal keystone slider on top of the projector until the image is an even rectangle. This is effective for projection angles of about 30º right or left.

Keystone Buttons

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Press one of the keystone adjustment buttons on the control panel to display the Keystone adjustment screen.

3. Press the keystone buttons to adjust the image shape. You can correct images up to 30º right, left, up, or down.

Quick Corner

1. Turn on the projector and press the [Menu] button.

2. Select the Settings menu and press [Enter].

3. Select Keystone and press [Enter].

4. Select Quick Corner and press [Enter].

5. Use the arrow buttons to select the corner of the image you want to adjust, then press [Enter].

6. Press the arrow buttons to adjust the image shape as necessary. Repeat for other corners.

7. When finished, press [Esc].

You can adjust the size and focus of the projected image using the rings on the lens of your EPSON EB-W51.

Resizing the Image with the Zoom Ring

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Rotate the zoom ring on the lens to enlarge or reduce the image size.

Focusing the Image Using the Focus Ring

1. Turn on the projector and display an image.

2. Rotate the focus ring on the lens to adjust the focus until the image is sharp and clear.

When multiple image sources are connected to your EPSON EB-W51, you can switch between them using one of the following methods:

1. Make sure the connected image source you want to use is turned on.

2. Do one of the following:

• Press the [Source Search] button on the control panel or remote control repeatedly until you see the image from the desired source.

• Press the specific source button on the remote control (e.g., [HDMI], [Computer], [USB], [LAN]).

• Press the [Home] button on the control panel or remote control, and then select the source you want to use from the list on the screen.

You can change the aspect ratio (width-to-height ratio) of the displayed image on your EPSON EB-W51 to fit your screen.

1. Turn on the projector and switch to the image source you want to use.

2. Press the [Aspect] button on the remote control.

3. The shape and size of the image changes, and the name of the aspect ratio appears briefly on the screen.

4. To cycle through the available aspect ratios for your input signal, press the [Aspect] button repeatedly.

Available aspect modes for projectors with WXGA (1280 × 800) resolution include:

Aspect mode	Description
Auto	Automatically sets the aspect ratio according to the input signal and the Resolution setting.
Normal	Displays images using the full projection area and maintains the aspect ratio of the image.
16:9 *	Converts the aspect ratio of the image to 16:9.
Full	Displays images using the full size of the projection area, but does not maintain the aspect ratio.
Zoom	Displays images using the full width of the projection area and maintains the aspect ratio of the image.
Native	Displays images as is (aspect ratio and resolution are maintained).

* Available only for projectors with a resolution of WXGA (1280 × 800).

The EPSON EB-W51 offers different color modes to provide optimum brightness, contrast, and color for various viewing environments.

Changing the Color Mode

1. Turn on the projector and switch to the image source you want to use.

2. Press the [Color Mode] button on the remote control to change the Color Mode.

3. The name of the Color Mode appears briefly on the screen, and the image appearance changes.

4. To cycle through all available color modes, press the [Color Mode] button repeatedly.

Available Color Modes

Color mode	Description
Dynamic	This is the brightest mode. Best for prioritizing brightness.
Presentation	Best for projecting vivid images.
Cinema	Best for enjoying content such as movies.
sRGB	Best for faithfully reproducing the color of the source image.
Blackboard	Best for projecting images directly on a green chalkboard.

You can also access more detailed image quality settings like Brightness, Contrast, and Color Saturation in the Image menu.

You can temporarily turn off the projected image and sound on your EPSON EB-W51 if you want to redirect your audience’s attention during a presentation. Any sound or video action continues to run in the background, so you cannot resume projection at the exact point you stopped it.

There are two ways to activate A/V Mute:

• Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to temporarily stop projection and mute any sound.

• Slide the A/V Mute slide lever on the projector to close the lens cover. This also stops the image and sound.

To turn the image and sound back on, press the [A/V Mute] button again or slide the lens cover open.

Note: The projector’s power will automatically turn off after 30 minutes if A/V Mute is enabled. You can disable this feature in the ECO menu (ECO > A/V Mute Timer).

Regular maintenance will keep your EPSON EB-W51 projector working properly. Before cleaning any part, turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

Cleaning the Lens

• To remove dust or smudges, gently wipe the lens with lens-cleaning paper.

• To remove stubborn smudges, moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with lens cleaner and gently wipe the lens. Do not spray any liquid directly on the lens.

Cleaning the Projector Case

• To remove dust or dirt, use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

• To remove stubborn dirt, use a soft cloth moistened with water and mild soap. Do not spray liquid directly on the projector.

Cleaning the Air Filter and Vents

Clean the air filter and vents if they get dusty, or if you see a message telling you to clean them.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Use a small vacuum designed for computers or a very soft brush to gently remove dust from the air filter and vents.

3. You can remove the air filter to clean both sides. Do not rinse the filter in water or use detergent.

4. If dust is difficult to remove or the filter is damaged, it must be replaced.

You need to replace the air filter on your EPSON EB-W51 when you see a message telling you to do so after cleaning, or if the filter is torn or damaged. Use air filter model ELPAF32.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Open the air filter cover.

3. Pull the air filter out of the projector.

4. Place the new air filter in the projector as shown and push gently until it clicks into place.

5. Close the air filter cover.

Replace the lamp as soon as possible when the projected image gets darker, or when a lamp replacement message is displayed. Use lamp unit model ELPLP97.

1. Turn off the projector and unplug the power cord.

2. Allow the projector lamp to cool down for at least one hour to avoid injury.

3. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw securing the lamp cover.

4. Slide the lamp cover out and lift it off.

5. Loosen the screws securing the lamp to the projector. The screws will not come all the way out.

6. Grip the raised section of the lamp and carefully remove it.

7. Gently insert the new lamp into the projector. If it does not fit easily, make sure it is facing the right way. Do not touch the glass on the lamp assembly.

8. Push in the lamp firmly and tighten the two screws to secure it.

9. Replace the lamp cover and tighten the screw to secure it.

After replacing the lamp, you must reset the lamp timer.

You must reset the lamp timer after replacing the projector’s lamp to clear the lamp replacement message and to monitor the new lamp’s usage correctly. Do not reset the timer if you have not replaced the lamp.

1. Turn on the projector.

2. Press the [Menu] button, select the Reset menu, and press [Enter].

3. Select Reset Lamp Hours and press [Enter].

4. A prompt will ask if you want to reset the lamp hours. Select Yes and press [Enter].

5. Press [Menu] or [Esc] to exit the menus.

If no image appears from your EPSON EB-W51, try the following solutions:

• Make sure the lens cover is open all the way.

• Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to see if the image was temporarily turned off.

• Make sure all necessary cables are securely connected and that the power is on for the projector and all connected video sources.

• Press the projector’s power button to wake it from standby or sleep mode. Check if the connected computer is in sleep mode or displaying a blank screen saver.

• If the control panel buttons do not respond, they may be locked. Unlock the buttons in the Control Panel Lock setting in the Settings menu.

• Adjust the Brightness setting in the projector’s Image menu.

• Select High or Medium as the Power Consumption setting in the ECO menu.

• Check the Display setting in the Extended menu to make sure Messages is set to On.

If the “No Signal” message appears, try the following solutions:

• Press the [Source Search] button and wait a few seconds for an image to appear.

• Turn on the connected computer or video source, and press play if necessary.

• Check that all cables required for projection are securely connected.

• If you are projecting from a laptop computer, make sure it is set up to display on an external monitor. You may need to press a function key combination (e.g., Fn + F-key) on your laptop.

• If necessary, turn off the projector and the connected device, and then turn them back on.

• If you are projecting from an HDMI source, try using a shorter HDMI cable.

If the Image is Fuzzy or Blurry:

• Adjust the image focus using the focus ring on the lens.

• Position the projector closer to the screen.

• Position the projector so the keystone adjustment angle is not too wide, as extreme angles can reduce focus quality.

• Clean the projector lens.

• Avoid condensation on the lens by letting the projector warm up to room temperature if it was brought in from the cold.

If the Image is not Rectangular:

• Place the projector directly in front of the center of the screen, facing it squarely.

• Use the automatic or manual keystone correction features (Horizontal Keystone Slider, Keystone Buttons, Quick Corner) to adjust the image shape.

If there is no sound or the volume is too low or high from your EPSON EB-W51, try the following solutions:

• Adjust the projector’s volume using the volume buttons on the control panel or remote control.

• Press the [A/V Mute] button on the remote control to ensure audio was not temporarily stopped.

• Check your computer or video source to make sure its volume is turned up and the audio output is set correctly.

• Check the audio cable connections between the projector and your video source.

• If you do not hear sound from an HDMI source, set the connected device to PCM output.

• If connecting to a Mac via HDMI, make sure your Mac model supports audio through the HDMI port. If not, you need to connect a separate audio cable.

The distance at which you place the EPSON EB-W51 from the screen determines the size of the projected image. The tables below show the projection distance for various screen sizes.
