The CUISINART SG6BU Seasoning Mill consists of the following components:

1. Measuring Cap: Allows you to grind directly into the cap, perfect for measuring quantities for a recipe.

2. Removable Grinding Containers: Clear for easy viewing and hold large portions to reduce the need for refills.

3. On/Off Button: Operates the mill when pressed.

4. Charging Base: Plugs into a mains outlet to charge the unit.

5. Grind Tray: A removable tray that catches loose grinds for easy disposal.

6. Charge/Ready Light: Illuminates red when charging and blue when fully charged.

7. Adjustable Grind Dial: Allows you to choose from 5 set positions, from coarse to fine.

8. Grind Directional Arrows: Indicates which direction to turn the adjustable grind dial for the desired setting.

Always follow these safety cautions when using the CUISINART SG6BU Seasoning Mill:

• The appliance is for domestic use only.

• This appliance contains batteries that cannot be replaced by the user.

• This appliance contains rechargeable batteries which must be removed before discarding the appliance. This should only be done by an authorized engineer.

• This appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction.

• Children should always be supervised to ensure that they do not play with this product. This appliance shall not be used by children.

• Keep the appliance, power adapter and charging base out of reach of children during and after use.

• Do not use the appliance if the lead is damaged. If damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer.

• For recharging the battery, only use the detachable charging supply unit provided (model YLJXA-U065018).

• The appliance is not intended to be operated by an external timer or separate remote control system.

• Always inspect the appliance before use for noticeable signs of damage. Do not use if damaged, or if it has been dropped.

• Never pull the plug out of the mains socket by the lead.

• Do not wrap the lead around the main body of the appliance during or after use.

• Always ensure only the supplied adapter is used.

• The supply terminals are not to be short circuited.

• The charger should be plugged into an electrical socket away from a sink or any hot surface.

• Do not use an extension cord. Plug the charger directly into an electrical socket.

• Do not charge the unit using an outdoor socket.

• To protect against electrical shock, do not put the main unit in water or other liquids. If the appliance falls into liquid, remove it immediately, then clean and dry the unit thoroughly.

• The appliance can be left plugged in when not in use. However, it should be switched off and unplugged before cleaning, refilling, or when handling moving parts. It should also be unplugged if not being used for a prolonged period.

• This product contains NiMH rechargeable 2.4V batteries that are not to be removed from the appliance for charging.

1. Place the housing and all removable parts on a clean, flat surface. Ensure all parts are clean and thoroughly dry.

2. To attach a grinding container, hold the unit upright and attach the container from the bottom.

3. Line up the arrow on the grinding container with the arrow on the unit housing, ensuring both arrows face each other for proper alignment.

4. Gently push the grinding container and unit housing together. They will fit together comfortably.

5. Secure the grinding container by twisting it so that the arrow on the unit housing aligns with the lock symbol on the grinding container. The two pieces will click together, indicating proper assembly.

6. To attach the second grinding container, flip the unit housing over and repeat the assembly steps.

7. Your CUISINART SG6BU Seasoning Mill is now assembled.

To use the measuring cap on either grinding container, grasp the cap and connect it to the grinding container by aligning the grooves on the cap with the ridges on the container.

Press them together until the ridge of the measuring cap rests flat against the grinding container.

NOTE: When not in use, the measuring cap should remain on the uppermost grinding container. The unit will not fit into the charging base if the measuring cap is on the lower container.

1. Place the housing, charging base, and all removable parts on a clean, flat surface. Ensure all parts are clean and dry.

2. Place the removable grind tray into the charging base so that it fits securely. The tray will only fit one way.

3. Connect the power adapter to the charging base by grasping the pin on the adapter and inserting it vertically into the back of the base until secure. NOTE: Do not insert the power adapter into the charging base while the adapter is plugged into a power source.

1. First, ensure your CUISINART SG6BU Seasoning Mill is fully assembled.

2. Grasp the assembled unit securely and make sure it is facing upright (the Cuisinart logo is horizontal and easy to read).

3. Place the fully assembled Seasoning Mill into the charging base. The recessed area on the back of the unit housing should fit comfortably with the protrusion on the charging base.

4. Plug the charging base into a power socket. The unit is properly charging if the red LED light on the charging base illuminates.

5. When the unit is fully charged, the LED indicator will change to blue.

NOTE: Before the first use, the batteries must be charged for 12 hours.

To adjust the grind from fine to coarse on your CUISINART SG6BU, use the adjustment dial located on the underside of the mill. Turn the dial clockwise for a finer grind and counter-clockwise for a coarser grind, following the directional arrows on the mill.

1. Assemble the CUISINART SG6BU Seasoning Mill and ensure it is fully charged.

2. Hold the unit with the end you wish to grind from facing downwards.

3. Press the On/Off button in the center of the unit housing to begin grinding.

4. NOTE: Only the bottom container will produce ground results. Although the upward-facing container will rotate, no grinding will take place from that end.

5. To grind from the other end of the unit, simply flip the unit over.

Your CUISINART SG6BU Seasoning Mill is equipped with NiMH batteries selected for maximum life and long running times.

Initial Charge: Before first use, the batteries must be charged for 12 hours.

Recharging: If the batteries run down completely, it will take between 8 and 12 hours to fully recharge them. A full charge provides up to 20 minutes of run time.

Continuous Charging: The unit is designed so that the batteries may remain on continuous charge. It is recommended to keep the charger plugged into a wall socket so the mill is always ready to use. Only use the charger provided with the appliance.

Holding the Charge: The batteries hold most of their charge even when not plugged in, losing only about 30% of their total charge per month.

If, after repeated use, the run time gets shorter and the CUISINART SG6BU Seasoning Mill has less power, you can perform a procedure to improve battery capacity.

1. Remove the plug from the wall outlet.

2. Continue to use the mill until it is fully discharged and stops operating.

3. Plug the base back into the wall outlet and recharge the unit for 12 hours or overnight for a full new charge.

This procedure should be repeated once every 2-3 months to ensure optimum performance.

Before cleaning, ensure the product is switched off and unplugged.

• Clean the mill and base by wiping all parts with a damp cloth and drying thoroughly. Do not expose the appliance to moisture.

• Do not use detergents to clean it.

• To clean the grinding chambers, unlock the container, remove it, and wash it with warm soapy water. Dry thoroughly before replacing.

• Never use moist or wet spices in the mill, as this will clog the grinding mechanism. Use only store-bought dried spices.

• N.B. Never immerse the full appliance in water, any other liquid, or place it in a dishwasher.

To clear a stuck peppercorn, you can try either of the following methods:

• Turn the mill upside down and shake it gently while pressing the On/Off power button.

OR

• Turn the mill upside down, position the grind selector to coarse, then hold it over a plate and grind until the peppercorn is dislodged.

In some instances, grinds can become lodged between the metal spindle in the grind containers and the main power unit. If this happens, the motor will not start when the ON/OFF button is pressed.

To dislodge these loose grinds, remove each of the removable grind containers in turn and shake the main power unit to release any loose grinds. There is no need to empty the containers. Once cleared, replace the grind containers and use the mill as normal.
