What is the BOSS PX-1?

The BOSS PX-1 is a compact effect unit that allows you to load and use various effects from a large assortment. You can use the BOSS EFFECT LOADER app (iOS/Android version) via Bluetooth wireless connection or a USB connection to load these effects into the PX-1. The unit comes with 8 pre-installed effect models and has an additional area to save up to 8 more models, depending on the size of the effects.

How do I get started with the BOSS PX-1?

To get started with your BOSS PX-1, you should first register the product and create a Roland account. You must have a Roland account to register the product. If you already have an account, log in and register it. If not, you can create a new account.

Next, you must install the BOSS EFFECT LOADER app on your smartphone to load effects into the PX-1.

What are the functions of the controls and jacks on the BOSS PX-1?

Number Name Explanation
1 DC IN jack Connect the included AC adaptor to this jack. The unit turns on when you plug the connected AC adaptor into an AC outlet.

* Use only the supplied AC adaptor and the correct voltage.

* This unit cannot be used on battery power.

2 CHECK indicator This indicator shows whether the effect is on or off.
3 OUTPUT A (MONO) jack, OUTPUT B jack Connect these jacks to your amp or monitor speakers. These OUTPUT jacks support stereo output.

If you’re using this unit in mono, connect only the A (MONO) jack.

* If you’re using a stereo setup, use the OUTPUT A (MONO) and OUTPUT B jacks.

* When you connect to both the OUTPUT A (MONO) and OUTPUT B jacks, an effect is produced according to the OUTPUT MODE settings.

4 INPUT A (MONO) jack, INPUT B jack Connect your guitar or effect unit here. These INPUT jacks support stereo input. Use a 1/4″ phone type (TS) to 1/4″ phone type (TS) cable to connect to this jack.
5 CTL1,2/EXP jack Using the jack as a CTL jack: Connect a footswitch (FS-5U, FS-6, FS-7; sold separately) to control the functions.
Using the jack as an EXP jack: Connect an expression pedal (EV-30, Roland EV-5, etc.; sold separately) to continuously change the effect settings.

* Use only the specified expression pedal. Connecting any other expression pedals may cause the unit to malfunction or become damaged.

6 Pedal switch Switches the effect on/off and controls the various functions.
7 Display Shows the setting values and other information.
8 Left knob Turning the knob: Adjusts the parameters shown on the left side of the display.

* To change a value in larger steps, turn a knob while pressing it.

Pressing the knob: Switches the screen (page) shown in the display, one position to the left.
9 Center knob Turning the knob: Adjusts the parameter shown at the center of the display.

* To change a value in larger steps, turn a knob while pressing it.

11 USB port (USB Type-C®) To update the unit or directly access it using the BOSS EFFECT LOADER app, connect a commercially available USB cable (A- to C-type or C- to C-type).

* Do not use a USB cable that is designed only for charging. Charge-only cables cannot transmit data.

This unit supports USB bus power.

* A commercially available USB AC adaptor (5 V/0.5 A or greater) is required to power this unit via the USB port. Some USB AC adaptors may not work with this instrument, depending on the manufacturer and type.

12 MIDI IN jack Receives timing clocks from external devices. Normally, this unit synchronizes to the internal tempo. However, if a MIDI clock is input via the MIDI IN jack, the tempo synchronizes to that MIDI clock. In this case, you can’t use tap tempo to set the tempo.

* Use a TRS/MIDI connecting cable (BMIDI or BCC series, sold separately) to connect an external MIDI device.

* Do not use these connectors for connecting to audio devices. Doing so may cause a malfunction.

* To prevent malfunction and equipment failure, always turn down the volume, and turn off all the units before making any connections.

* Do not use connection cables that contain a built-in resistor.
