What are the panel descriptions and functions of the BOSS RT-2?

The panel of the BOSS RT-2 features several jacks, knobs, switches, and indicators, each with a specific function:

Part Name Explanation
1 DC IN jack Use this jack to connect a separately sold AC adaptor (PSA series). Using an AC Adaptor allows you to play without concern for battery power. Only use the specified AC adaptor connected to an AC outlet of the correct voltage. If connected while the power is on, the power supply is drawn from the AC adaptor.
2 CHECK indicator This indicator shows if the effect is on/off, the rotary speed, and the battery state. It lights up when an effect is ON. It lights red for FAST speed and green for SLOW speed. The brightness dims as the battery lowers.
3 OUTPUT A (MONO) jack, OUTPUT B jack Connect these jacks to your amp or monitor speakers. Use only OUTPUT A (MONO) for mono use. For stereo, use both OUTPUT A and OUTPUT B jacks. When both are connected, the effect is produced according to the OUTPUT MODE settings.
4 INPUT A (MONO) jack, INPUT B jack Connect your guitar, bass, keyboard, or other effect unit. For mono use, connect to INPUT A (MONO) only. Use both jacks for stereo input. The INPUT A (MONO) jack also acts as the power switch; power turns on when a plug is inserted.
5 SPEED jack (CTL/EXP jack) Connect a footswitch or expression pedal here. As a CTL jack, it connects to a footswitch (FS-5U, FS-6, FS-7) to control SLOW/FAST switching or the brake feature. As an EXP jack, it connects to an expression pedal (EV-30, Roland EV-5, etc.) to continuously change effect settings.
6 Pedal switch Turns the effect on/off, or switches between rotor speeds (SLOW/FAST). There are four types of pedal switch functions you can set.
7 [FAST SPEED] knob Adjusts the rotation speed of the rotor when switched to FAST.
8 [SLOW SPEED] knob Adjusts the rotation speed of the rotor when switched to SLOW.
9 [LEVEL] knob Adjusts the volume when the effect is on.
10 [DRIVE] knob Adjusts the amount of distortion. When the [MODE] switch is set to “III”, distortion and volume are emphasized. The [DRIVE KNOB] switch toggles the function of this knob.
11 [MODE] switch Selects one of three rotary sound modes: I (standard Leslie 122 sound), II (wider range based on mode I), and III (new dimension with stronger rotation and deeper distortion).
12 VIRTUAL ROTOR Shows the rotary speaker effect by the movement of the indicator lights. The red light indicates the treble rotor rotation, and the blue light indicates the bass rotor rotation.
13 [RISE/FALL TIME] knob Adjusts the rate of change when switching between SLOW and FAST speeds. SLOW position means a slower switching time; FAST position means a faster switching time.
14 [DRIVE KNOB] switch Toggles the function of the [DRIVE] knob between DRIVE (adjusts distortion) and BALANCE (adjusts the balance between the treble and bass rotors). The most recent values are stored in memory.

How do I replace the battery in the BOSS RT-2?

Batteries should always be installed or replaced before connecting any other devices to prevent malfunction and damage. Use an alkaline battery if running on battery power. Follow these steps:

1. Hold down the pedal and loosen the thumbscrew, then open the pedal upward. You do not need to remove the thumbscrew completely.

2. Remove the old battery from the battery housing, and disconnect the snap cord connected to it.

3. Connect the battery snap to the new battery, and place the battery inside the battery housing. Be sure to carefully observe the battery’s polarity (+ versus -).

4. Slip the coil spring onto the spring base on the back of the pedal, and then close the pedal. Carefully avoid getting the snap cord caught in the pedal, coil spring, or battery housing.

5. Finally, hold down the pedal while tightening the thumbscrew into the guide bush hole.
