How do I make detailed pitch correction settings using the Correction Event Map on the BOSS BR-1600CD?
The “Correction Event Map” allows you to specify the precise time and level of pitch correction for specific portions of a vocal track. Initially, a single “AUTO” event is present. To edit pitches with the Edit Event Map, follow this procedure:
1. Select the patch to which pitch correction is to be applied.
2. Press [F2] (EDIT) in the Vocal Tool Box pitch selection screen.
3. Press [F3] (MAP EDIT). The Correction Event Map screen appears.
4. Press [F1] (NEW). A new correction event is inserted.
5. Move the cursor to “TIME” and specify the time at which you want the correction to start with the TIME/VALUE dial.
6. Move the cursor to “NOTE” and specify the desired pitch you want to correct to with the TIME/VALUE dial. The available NOTE settings are:
• OFF: No correction is made. The original pitch is used.
• AUTO: All pitches are corrected in semitone increments.
• C, C#, … A#, B: The performance is adjusted to the specified pitch.
7. Move the cursor to “SMOOTH” and specify the correction speed (-100 to +100). This value is added to the patch’s “Smooth” parameter. Negative values make the correction more rapid, positive values make it smoother.
8. To set an end point for the correction, press [F1] (NEW) again to insert another event.
9. Move the cursor to “TIME” and specify the time you want the correction to end.
10. Move the cursor to “NOTE” and specify “OFF” to stop the correction at that point.
11. Play the song from the beginning to check the result. The correction will be applied between the start time (Step 5) and end time (Step 9).
12. To delete an event, move the cursor to it and press [F4] (DELETE). You cannot delete the first event at the beginning of the song; set it to “OFF” if it’s not needed.
13. Repeat steps 4–12 as needed to edit the entire vocal track.
14. To save your work, you must save the song. The Correction Event Map is saved with the song, and only one map can be saved per song.
How do I make detailed backing chorus settings using the Harmony Event Map on the BOSS BR-1600CD?
The “Harmony Event Map” allows you to specify the precise time, pitches, and ON/OFF status for backing harmonies. To edit pitches using the Harmony Event Map:
1. Select the patch where you want to apply the harmony sequence.
2. Press [F2] (EDIT) in the Vocal Tool Box pitch selection screen.
3. If you are on the Harmony Sequence Parameter screen, press [F3] (=> PRM.) to switch screens if necessary.
4. Press [F2] (MAP EDIT). The Harmony Event Map screen appears. Initially, it contains one “AUTO” event.
5. Press [F1] (NEW) to insert a new harmony event.
6. Move the cursor to “TIME” and use the TIME/VALUE dial to specify when you want the backing chorus to start.
7. Move the cursor to “VOICE1” and specify the pitch for the first harmony voice using the TIME/VALUE dial. Repeat for VOICE2 and VOICE3 as needed.
VOICE settings:
• OFF: The voice is not played.
• AUTO: The voice is played according to the rhythm arrangement’s chord map.
• C, C#, … A#, B: The voice is played at the specified pitch.
• A “+” added to a note or “AUTO” sounds one octave up. A “-” sounds one octave down.
8. To end the harmony part, press [F1] (NEW) to insert another event.
9. Move the cursor to “TIME” and specify the time you want the backing chorus to end.
10. Move the cursor to “VOICE1,” “VOICE2,” and “VOICE3” and set them to “OFF.”
11. Play the song to check your edits. The harmony will be added between the start time (Step 6) and end time (Step 9).
12. To delete an event, move the cursor to it and press [F4] (DELETE). You cannot delete the first event; set its voices to “OFF” if it’s unneeded.
13. Repeat steps 5–12 as needed to create the full harmony arrangement.
14. To save your edits, save the song. The Harmony Event Map is saved with the song, and only one map can be saved per song.
How do I adjust Mastering Tool Kit effects and volume on the BOSS BR-1600CD?
In Version 2, you can adjust the selected Mastering Tool Kit patch using VALUE knobs 1-3.
1. Select a Mastering Tool Kit patch.
2. Press the PAGE SCROLL button [▶]. The VALUE knob (1-3) icons will appear on the screen.
3. Adjust the VALUE 1–3 knobs while playing back Track 15/16 to get the sound you want.
VALUE 1 Knob: DYNAMICS
• This adjusts the difference between high and low volume levels. Turning it right (clockwise) decreases the dynamic range. Turning it left (counterclockwise) increases the dynamic range. The center position maintains the patch’s original effect.
VALUE 2 Knob: TONE
• Turning this knob to the right boosts low and high frequencies. Turning it to the left produces a more subdued tone. The center position maintains the patch’s original effect.
VALUE 3 Knob: NATURAL
• Turning this knob to the right applies the effect more slowly for a more natural sound. Turning it to the left applies the effect more rapidly in response to volume peaks, which can impact the naturalness of the sound. The center position maintains the patch’s original effect.
Note: These VALUE 1–3 Knob settings are not saved to the patches but are applied globally to all patches. Be careful not to introduce distortion with your settings.
How do I import songs from a BR-1180CD/1200CD to my BOSS BR-1600CD?

How do I synchronize my BOSS BR-1600CD to another device using MTC Slave?
With Version 2, the BR-1600CD can act as a slave device, receiving MIDI Time Code (MTC) to synchronize its playback with a master device (like another BR Series unit or a MIDI sequencer).
1. Connect the MIDI OUT of the master device to the MIDI IN of the slave BR-1600CD using a MIDI cable.
2. Set up the master and slave devices as follows:
When using a BR Series device as the master:
• Master: Set “Sync Generator” to “MTC.”
• Slave (BR-1600CD):
1) Press [UTILITY].
2) Move the cursor to the SYNC icon and press [ENTER/YES].
3) Move the cursor to “MTC Type” and set it to match the master device’s setting.
4) Move the cursor to “MTC Slave” and select “ON.”
When using a MIDI sequencer as the master:
• Master: Set the sequencer to transmit MTC (refer to its owner’s manual).
3. Press [EXIT/NO] to return to the top screen on the BR-1600CD.
4. If you want to record on the slave BR-1600CD, press its [REC] button so it flashes red (recording standby mode). Do not press [PLAY].
5. Start playback on the master device. The slave BR-1600CD will automatically start synchronized playback (or recording if it was in standby). Note: It may take a few seconds for synchronization to stabilize.
6. To stop, stop the master device. The slave BR-1600CD will stop simultaneously.
