To set up your ASUS D500SA, connect the main hardware devices:

1. Connect an external monitor:

• Connect a monitor to a display output port (VGA, HDMI™, or DisplayPort) on the rear panel of your computer. If your computer has a separate graphics card, connect the monitor to a port on the graphics card.

• Plug the monitor into a power source.

2. Connect a USB keyboard and mouse:

• Connect a USB keyboard and a USB mouse to the USB ports on the rear panel of your computer.

3. Connect the power cord:

• Connect one end of the power cord to the power connector on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to a grounded electrical outlet.

To turn on your ASUS D500SA after setting it up:

1. Turn your monitor ON.

2. Press the power button on the front of your computer chassis.

3. Wait until the operating system loads automatically.

Your ASUS D500SA has audio ports on the front and rear panels for connecting microphones and speakers.

• Connecting Headphones and Mic: Use the audio combo jack or separate headphone and microphone ports on the front panel.

To enable audio output to an external device like earphones or speakers for clear audio quality:

1. Connect an external audio device (e.g., speaker) to the rear Line Out port. The Audio Manager screen should automatically pop up.

2. In the “Which device did you plug in?” window, tick Front Speaker Out, then click OK.

3. Another window may appear. Tick Line In, then click OK. The audio output will now be from the external audio device.

Your ASUS D500SA may come with VGA, HDMI, or DisplayPort ports that allow you to connect multiple external displays.

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Connect two monitors to the display output ports on your computer and connect the power cords to the monitors.

3. Turn on your computer.

4. From the Start menu, click Settings > System > Display.

5. Configure the settings for your displays. You can duplicate your main display or extend your Windows desktop.

Maintaining proper posture is necessary to prevent strain to your wrists, hands, and other joints or muscles. Follow these tips:

• Position your computer chair to make sure that your elbows are at or slightly above the keyboard for a comfortable typing position.

• Adjust the height of your chair so that your knees are slightly higher than your hips to relax the backs of your thighs. Use a footrest if necessary.

• Adjust the back of your chair so that the base of your spine is firmly supported and angled slightly backward.

• Sit upright with your knees, elbows, and hips at an approximately 90° angle.

• Place the monitor directly in front of you, and turn the top of the monitor screen to be even with your eye level so that your eyes look slightly downward.

• Keep the mouse close to the keyboard, and use a wrist rest if necessary to reduce pressure on your wrists.

• Use your Desktop PC in a comfortably-lit area, away from sources of glare such as windows and direct sunlight.

• Take regular mini-breaks from using your Desktop PC.

To use the optional memory card reader on the front panel of your ASUS D500SA:

1. Insert the memory card into the correct card slot. A memory card is keyed to fit in only one direction; do not force it.

2. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access your files. If AutoPlay is not enabled, open File Explorer from the Start menu and double-click the memory card icon.

3. When finished, right-click the memory card drive icon in the Computer screen, click Eject, and then remove the card.

IMPORTANT: To prevent data loss, never remove cards while data is being accessed. Use the “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media” option in the Windows notification area before removing the card.

To insert an optical disc:

1. While your system is on, press the eject button on the drive bay cover to open the tray.

2. Place the disc on the optical drive with the label side facing outward.

3. Push the tray gently to close it.

4. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access the files on the disc.

To remove an optical disc:

1. While the system is on, do one of the following to eject the tray:

• Press the eject button on the drive bay cover.

• From the Start menu, click File Explorer, right-click the CD/DVD drive icon, and click Eject.

2. Remove the disc from the disc tray.

You can enable or disable the front and rear USB ports from the BIOS Setup.

1. Press <Delete> during startup to enter the BIOS Setup.

2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, press <F7> to enter the Advanced Mode.

3. Navigate to Advanced > Security > I/O Interface Security > USB Interface Security > USB Port Control.

4. Select the USB port you want to configure and press <Enter> to enable or disable it.

5. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset to save the changes made.

You can set a password in the BIOS Setup to protect your HDD.

To set a new password:

1. Press <Delete> during startup to enter BIOS Setup.

2. Press <F7> to enter Advanced Mode.

3. Go to Security > HDD Security Configuration: [name of HDD].

4. Select Set Master Password and press <Enter>.

5. In the Create New Password box, enter a password, then press <Enter>. Confirm the password when prompted.

6. Select Set User Password and press <Enter>. Follow the same steps to set the user password.

7. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset.

To change an existing password:

1. Follow steps 1-3 above to open the HDD Password screen.

2. Select Set Master Password and press <Enter>.

3. In the Enter Current Password box, enter the current password, then press <Enter>.

4. In the Create New Password box, enter a new password, then press <Enter>. Confirm the new password.

5. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset.

You can use an RJ-45 cable for a wired connection.

Connecting via a DSL/cable modem:

1. Set up your DSL/cable modem according to its documentation.

2. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to your DSL/cable modem.

3. Turn on the DSL/cable modem and your computer.

4. Configure the necessary Internet connection settings in your operating system.

Connecting via a Local Area Network (LAN):

1. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to your LAN (e.g., a wall socket or router).

2. Turn on your computer.

3. Configure the necessary Internet connection settings.

To configure a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection:

1. Launch Network and Sharing Center. You can do this by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar.

2. Click Change Adapter settings.

3. Right-click on your LAN connection and select Properties.

4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.

5. Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically, then click OK.

6. If you are using PPPoE, return to the Network and Sharing Center, click Set up a new connection or network, select Connect to the Internet, choose Broadband (PPPoE), and follow the on-screen instructions.

To configure a static IP network connection:

1. Follow steps 1-4 above.

2. Select Use the following IP address.

3. Enter the IP address, Subnet mask, and Gateway provided by your service provider.

4. If needed, select Use the following DNS server addresses and enter the preferred and alternate DNS server addresses.

5. When done, click OK.

ASUS Manager provides tools for customizing and maintaining your computer.

1. Insert your ASUS support DVD into your optical drive.

2. On the support CD window, click Utilities > ASUS Business Manager.

3. On the ASUS Manager setup screen, select the applications you want to install.

4. Click Install.

5. The system will prompt you to reboot your system once the installation is complete.

ASUS Business Manager offers several utilities:

• System: Displays hardware and software details about your computer.

• Update: Download and install hardware drivers, the latest BIOS, and updated ASUS applications.

• Security (PC Cleanup & USB Lock): PC Cleanup removes temporary and unnecessary files. USB Lock secures your USB ports, card reader, and optical drive from unwanted access by setting up a password.

• Backup & Recovery: Begin Windows maintenance tasks like system restoration, adjusting startup settings, and repairing Windows with a recovery disk.

• Power Manager: Configure power management settings for system hibernation, sleep, display, and hard drive activity.

• Tool (Support, Ai Booting, MyLogo): Support provides links to ASUS support. Ai Booting displays a list of bootable storage devices to modify the boot sequence. MyLogo allows you to customize the boot logo image that appears during startup (POST).

1. In ASUS Business Manager, go to Tool > MyLogo.

2. Select one of the options, then click Next:

• Change the BIOS boot logo and update the BIOS.

• Change the BIOS boot logo only.

3. Click Browse to locate the picture file you want to use as the boot logo (and the downloaded BIOS file if required) and then click Run.

4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.

When you start your computer for the first time, a series of screens will guide you through configuring the basic settings of Windows 10.

1. Press the power button on your Desktop PC. Wait for the setup screen to appear.

2. From the setup screen, pick your region and language.

3. Carefully read the License Terms, then tap I Accept.

4. Follow the onscreen instructions to configure the following basic items: Personalize, Get online, Settings, and Your account.

5. Wait until Windows 10 finishes installing the apps and system settings. The Windows 10 desktop will appear after installation is complete.

Start Menu

Launch the Start menu by clicking the Start button in the lower-left corner or pressing the Windows key on your keyboard. It provides access to your account, apps, settings, and power options (sleep, shut down, restart).

Pinning and Unpinning Apps

• To pin an app: From the Start menu, click All apps, right-click the app you want to pin, and select Pin to Start or Pin to taskbar.

• To unpin an app from the Start screen: Right-click on the app tile on the Start screen and click Unpin from Start.

• To unpin an app from the taskbar: Right-click on the app icon on the taskbar and click Unpin this program from taskbar.

Task View

If you have several running apps, click the Task View icon on the taskbar to display all your running apps and switch between them.

The Snap feature displays up to four apps in one screen, allowing you to work or switch among them easily.

Using your mouse:

a) Launch an app, then drag and release it on a screen corner to snap it into place.

b) Snap another app to your preferred location on the screen.

Using your keyboard:

a) Launch an app, press the Windows key and an arrow key to select the direction where you want to snap the app.

b) Snap another app using the Windows key and arrow keys.

Restoring your PC to its original factory settings can be done using the “Remove everything and reinstall Windows” option in PC Settings. Warning: This process will delete all your data. Back up all your data before using this option.

1. From the Start menu, click Settings > Update & security > Recovery.

2. Under the Remove everything and reinstall Windows option, click Get started.

3. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the reinstallation and reset process.
