The front panel of your ASUS D500SAES has the following components:

1. 5.25-inch optical disk drive bay (optional): Houses an optical disk drive.

2. Optical disk drive eject button: Press this button to eject the optical disk drive tray.

To set up your ASUS D500SAES, follow these steps:

1. Connect an external monitor: Connect a monitor to a display output port on the rear panel of your computer and plug the monitor into a power source. If your computer has a separate graphics card, connect the monitor to a port on that card.

2. Connect a USB keyboard and mouse: Connect your USB keyboard and mouse to the USB ports on the rear panel.

3. Connect the power cord: Connect one end of the power cord to the power connector on the rear panel and the other end to a grounded electrical outlet.

To turn on your ASUS D500SAES computer:

1. Turn your monitor ON.

2. Press the power button on your computer.

3. Wait until the operating system loads automatically.

To connect headphones, a microphone, or speakers to your ASUS D500SAES, plug them into the appropriate ports on the front or rear panels. The rear panel audio ports support 2-channel, 4-channel, 5.1-channel, and 7.1-channel stereo speakers.

To change to the external audio output:

1. Connect an external audio device (e.g., earphone or speaker) to the rear Line Out port. The Audio Manager screen will automatically pop up.

2. Tick Front Speaker Out, then click OK.

3. Tick Line In, then click OK. The audio output will now be from the external audio device.

Your ASUS D500SAES allows you to connect multiple external displays using its VGA, HDMI, or DisplayPort ports.

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Connect two monitors to your computer’s display output ports and connect the power cords to the monitors.

3. Turn on your computer.

4. From the Start menu, click Settings > System > Display.

5. Configure the settings for your displays.

NOTE: For some graphics cards, only the monitor set as the primary display will show an image during POST. The dual display function works only within Windows.

To maintain proper posture and avoid physical discomfort while using your ASUS D500SAES, follow these tips:

• Position your chair so your elbows are at or slightly above the keyboard.

• Adjust your chair height so your knees are slightly higher than your hips. Use a footrest if necessary.

• Adjust the back of your chair to firmly support the base of your spine at a slightly backward angle.

• Sit upright with your knees, elbows, and hips at an approximate 90-degree angle.

• Place the monitor directly in front of you, with the top of the screen at eye level so your eyes look slightly downward.

• Keep the mouse close to the keyboard and use a wrist rest if needed.

• Use your computer in a comfortably lit area, away from sources of glare.

• Take regular mini-breaks.

To use the optional memory card reader on your ASUS D500SAES:

1. Insert the memory card into the correct card slot. A memory card is keyed to fit in only one direction; do not force it.

2. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access your files. If AutoPlay is not enabled, open File Explorer and double-click the memory card icon.

3. When finished, right-click the memory card drive icon in the Computer screen, click Eject, and then remove the card.

IMPORTANT: To prevent data loss, use “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media” in the Windows notification area before removing the memory card. Do not remove cards while data is being read, copied, formatted, or deleted.

To insert an optical disc:

1. While the system is on, press the eject button on the drive bay cover to open the tray.

2. Place the disc on the optical drive with the label side outward (if the desktop is vertical) or label side up (if horizontal).

3. Push the tray gently to close it.

4. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access your files.

To remove an optical disc:

1. While the system is on, do one of the following to eject the tray:

• Press the eject button on the drive bay cover.

• From the Start menu, click File Explorer, right-click the CD/DVD drive icon, and click Eject.

2. Remove the disc from the disc tray.

You can enable or disable the front and rear USB ports from the BIOS Setup on your ASUS D500SAES.

1. Press <Delete> during startup to enter the BIOS Setup.

2. From the EZ Mode screen, press <F7> to enter Advanced Mode.

3. Navigate to Advanced > Security > I/O Interface Security > USB Interface Security > USB Port Control.

4. Select the USB port you want to configure and press <Enter> to enable or disable it.

5. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset to save the changes.

To set an HDD password:

1. Press <Delete> at startup to enter BIOS Setup.

2. Press <F7> to enter Advanced Mode, then go to Security > HDD Security Configuration: [name of HDD].

3. Select Set Master Password and press <Enter>.

4. In the Create New Password box, enter a password and press <Enter>. Confirm the password when prompted.

5. Select Set User Password and press <Enter>. Follow the same steps to set the user password.

6. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset.

To change the HDD password:

1. Follow steps 1 and 2 from above to open the HDD Password screen.

2. Select Set Master Password and press <Enter>.

3. In the Enter Current Password box, enter the current password and press <Enter>.

4. In the Create New Password box, enter a new password and press <Enter>. Confirm when prompted.

5. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset.

To clear a password, follow the steps for changing it, but press <Enter> at the create/confirm prompt without typing anything.

Use an RJ-45 cable to connect your ASUS D500SAES to a DSL/cable modem or a Local Area Network (LAN).

Connecting via DSL/cable modem:

1. Set up your DSL/cable modem.

2. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to your modem.

3. Turn on the modem and your computer.

4. Configure the necessary internet connection settings.

Connecting via a LAN:

1. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to your LAN.

2. Turn on your computer.

3. Configure the necessary internet connection settings.

1. Launch Network and Sharing Center. You can do this by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar and selecting it, or navigating through Start menu > Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet > Network and Sharing Center.

2. Click Change Adapter settings.

3. Right-click on your LAN and select Properties.

4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.

5. Select Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically, then click OK.

6. If you are using PPPoE, return to the Network and Sharing Center and click Set up a new connection or network.

7. Select Connect to the Internet and click Next.

8. Select Broadband (PPPoE) and click Next.

9. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup.

1. Follow steps 1-4 from the dynamic IP configuration guide to open the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window.

2. Select Use the following IP address.

3. Enter the IP address, Subnet mask, and Default gateway provided by your service provider.

4. If needed, select Use the following DNS server addresses and enter the Preferred and Alternate DNS server addresses.

5. When done, click OK.

1. Insert your ASUS support DVD into your optical drive.

2. On the support CD window, click Utilities > ASUS Business Manager.

3. On the ASUS Manager setup screen, select the applications you want to install.

4. Click Install.

5. The system will prompt you to reboot once installation is complete.

ASUS Secure Delete allows you to make deleted files completely irrecoverable.

1. Once ASUS Secure Delete is launched, add files to the deletion box by either:

• Dragging and dropping the files into the deletion box.

• Right-clicking the file and selecting ASUS Secure Delete.

2. To remove a file from the deletion list, select the file and click the remove icon.

3. Tick Delete the files listed in the recycle bin if you want to permanently delete all files in the recycle bin as well.

4. Click Clear, and then click OK on the confirmation message to permanently delete all the files listed.

You can use the MyLogo feature in ASUS Business Manager to customize the boot logo.

1. In ASUS Business Manager, go to Tool > MyLogo.

2. Select one of the options, then click Next:

• Change the BIOS boot logo and update the BIOS.

• Change the BIOS boot logo only.

3. Click Browse to locate the picture file you want to use as the boot logo (and the downloaded BIOS file if required), then click Run.

4. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the process.

If your ASUS D500SAES won’t power on, try the following:

• Check if your computer is properly connected to the power outlet.

• Check if the wall outlet is functioning by plugging in another device.

• Check if the Power Supply Unit is switched on.

If your computer hangs, try to close the programs that are not responding:

1. Simultaneously press <Alt> + <Ctrl> + <Delete> on the keyboard, then click Task Manager.

2. Select the program that is not responding, then click End Task.

If the keyboard is not responding, press and hold the Power button on your chassis until the computer shuts down. Then press the Power button again to turn it on.

If there is no display on your monitor, check the following:

• Ensure the monitor is powered on.

• Ensure your monitor is properly connected to the video output port on your computer.

• If your computer has a discrete graphics card, ensure you connect the monitor to a video output port on the discrete graphics card.

• Check for any bent pins on the monitor video connector. If pins are bent, replace the cable.

• Ensure your monitor is plugged into a power source properly.

• Refer to the documentation that came with your monitor for more troubleshooting information.

If only one monitor is working in a multiple monitor setup, check these points:

• Ensure that both monitors are powered on.

• During POST (Power-On Self-Test), only the monitor connected to the VGA port will have a display. The dual display function works only under Windows.

• If a discrete graphics card is installed, ensure you connect the monitors to the output ports on the graphics card.

• Check if the multiple displays settings in Windows are correct.

• The first time you connect a USB storage device, Windows automatically installs a driver for it. Wait for a moment and then check My Computer to see if the device is detected.

• Connect your USB storage device to another computer to test if the device itself is broken or malfunctioning.

You can use the Windows 10 “Refresh your PC without affecting your files” recovery option. To use this, click Settings > Update & security > Recovery from the Start menu, select Refresh your PC without affecting your files, and click Get started.

If your speakers are not producing sound, try these steps:

• Ensure your speakers are connected to the Line out port (lime) on the front or rear panel.

• Check if your speaker is connected to an electrical source and turned on.

• Adjust your speakers’ volume.

• Ensure that your computer’s system sounds are not muted. If the volume icon shows as muted, click it to enable the sounds.

• Connect your speakers to another computer to test if they are working properly.

If the DVD drive is not reading a disc, check the following:

• Check if the disc is placed with the label side facing up.

• Check if the disc is centered in the tray, especially for discs with non-standard sizes or shapes.

• Check if the disc is scratched or damaged.

Restoring your ASUS D500SAES to its original factory settings will remove all your data. Back up your data before proceeding.

1. From the Start menu, click Settings > Update & security > Recovery.

2. Scroll down to the Remove everything and reinstall Windows option. Under this option, click Get started.

3. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the reinstallation and reset process.
