1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Loosen the cap nut and remove the ring terminal from the threaded connection.
3. Check the ring terminal for corrosion and dirt.
4. Select a suitable adapter and sanding pad (grey for light dirt, red for heavy dirt).
5. Insert the adapter into the ring terminal and grind off corrosion with circular movements. Check your progress frequently to avoid abrading the tin coating excessively.
6. If necessary, remove any punching burr with the deburrer tool.
7. Tighten the ring terminal back to the specified torque.
8. Apply a suitable anti-corrosion treatment.
9. Reconnect the battery.
Cleaning Battery Clamps and Terminals:
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Use the wire brush tool (VAG 1331) to clean the inside of the battery clamp and the outside of the battery terminal post with circular movements.
3. Reconnect the battery and tighten the terminals to the specified torque.
Note: Do not use penetrating fluid, contact spray, or grease, as this can cause incorrect torque readings and potential breakage.
How do I renew a Lambda probe on my VOLKSWAGEN GOLF PLUS 2009?
Lambda probe wires should not be repaired. If a probe is defective, it must be renewed using a uniform replacement probe. The procedure is similar for 4-pin (LSF) and 6-pin (LSU) probes.
Procedure:
1. Remove the defective Lambda probe from the vehicle.
2. Place the new uniform probe and the old defective probe next to each other, aligning the sensor housings so they are at the same height.
3. Adjust the length of the new probe’s cable to match the old one. Tie back any excess length (approx. 50 – 250 mm) and secure it with cable ties.
4. Check that the connector housing of the new Lambda probe is compatible with the onboard supply side connector. On older vehicles, it may be necessary to replace the connector housing on the vehicle side with the one supplied with the new probe.
5. If necessary, transfer any attachment parts, cable ties, or marking rings from the old probe to the new one.
6. Install the new Lambda probe in the vehicle.
