The engine number is formed by up to nine characters, which are alphanumeric. The first part, containing at most three identification letters, represents the engine identification letters. The second part consists of six digits and is the serial number. If more than 999,999 engines are manufactured with the same identification letters, the first digit of the 6-digit group is replaced by a letter.

When removing the engine, you must check if the vehicle has a coded radio and consult the anti-theft code before disconnecting the battery earth strap. The engine should be removed from the front along with the transmission. All cable fasteners that are opened or broken during removal must be replaced and reinstalled in their original locations. Additionally, ensure the cooling system pressure is released by opening and closing the cooling fluid container lid.

Warning: The fuel supply hose is under pressure. Before loosening hose junctions, place a cloth around them, then carefully eliminate the pressure by removing the hose.

To remove the Poly-V belt, first remove the lower engine compartment anti-noise panel. Mark the belt’s operation direction. Use a 16mm screwdriver to turn the belt tensor in the direction of the arrow to loosen the belt, then remove it.

To install the belt, first place the Poly-V belt on the crankshaft pulley, then place it on the tensor. Ensure the belt is properly seated on the pulley and that the rotation direction is correct. After installation, start the engine to verify proper movement of the belt.

The engine oil temperature must be at least 30°C, the battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V, and all electrical equipment must be turned off. Remove the air cleaner body and the ignition spark plugs using the appropriate tool. Disconnect the Hall sender connector and the ignition transformer connector. Remove fuse 33 to cut power to the injectors. Have a second person depress the throttle pedal so the butterfly valve is fully open, then use a compression tester to measure each cylinder.

The compression pressure values are 10 to 15 bar (wear limit is 7 bar), and the permissible cylinder difference is 3 bar.

When working on the injection system, follow these five rules:

1. Thoroughly clean all connections and surrounding areas before disconnecting them.

2. Place parts on a clean surface and cover them; use only lint-free cloths.

3. If repairs are not going to be carried out immediately, all components removed from their packaging must be carefully covered or preserved.

4. Install only clean components. Remove spare parts from their packaging shortly before installation.

5. With the system open, avoid using compressed air if possible, and do not move the vehicle.

To drain the coolant, remove the lower engine compartment anti-noise panel and open the cap on the coolant expansion tank. Then, remove the drain plug from the radiator to allow the coolant to flow out.

Warning: Steam can be released when removing the cover from the expansion tank; place a piece of cloth around the cover and open carefully.

To fill, ensure all connections are tight. Use a coolant supplying device if available to prevent air pockets. If not, fill the coolant until the upper mark of the coolant tank is reached. Start the engine and run it at 2000 rpm for approximately 3 minutes, then leave it running until the fan turns on. Check the coolant level and top up if necessary.
