To ensure successful repairs on the VOLKSWAGEN JETTA 2011, maintain the greatest care and cleanliness. Use high-quality, appropriate tools and always adhere to standard safety precautions. Do not run the engine or tow the vehicle if the gearbox covers have been unbolted or if the gearbox contains no fluid. Thoroughly clean all connecting points before loosening any bolts. Ensure dowel sleeves are correctly located between the engine and gearbox during installation. Use only clean parts and keep them in their packaging until immediately before installation. If a repair cannot be finished immediately, cover or seal the components. With the gearbox removed, always secure the torque converter to prevent it from falling out.

Always renew all O-rings, seals, and gaskets. Before installing a radial oil seal, coat the sealing lips and the area between them with G 052 128 sealing grease. Ensure the open side of the oil seal faces the oil. When working with oil, dispose of it according to environmental regulations, as one drop can contaminate 1,000 litres of water. Always check the ATF level after installing new seals.

Loosen and tighten securing bolts and nuts for covers and housings diagonally. Torque settings provided are for unoiled bolts and nuts. Threads of bolts that require locking fluid must be cleaned with a wire brush, then inserted with AMV 185 100 A1 locking fluid. Use a thread chaser to clear residual locking fluid from all threaded holes to prevent bolts from shearing during future removal. Always renew all self-locking bolts and nuts.

Electrostatic charge from the human body can damage electronic components. Before starting any work on electrical components, touch an earthed object, such as a water pipe or a lifting platform. Do not touch connectors or open electronic components directly.

Use the V.A.G 1358 A oil extraction unit along with the V.A.G 1358 A/1 oil extraction probe to extract the ATF from the torque converter.

Carefully push the torque converter hub via the oil seal to the first stop. Turn the torque converter towards the gearbox while applying light pressure until the notch in the hub engages in the follower of the pump gear and the torque converter can be felt to slip into place. The torque converter is correctly inserted when it turns easily by hand and is seated at an equal depth throughout the circumference of the gearbox. Be cautious not to force the engine and gearbox together, as this will damage both components if the torque converter is not fitted correctly.

Step 1. Move the selector lever to position N and switch off the ignition.

Step 2. To remove the selector lever cable from the gearbox, first release the cable at the arrows and remove it from the cable support bracket. Do not use pliers, as the securing tabs may break, and do not bend or kink the cable.

Step 3. Using an open jaw spanner, lever the cable off the lever.

Step 4. Pull the electrical connector off the multifunction switch F125.

Step 5. Unscrew the nut and remove the spring ring and lever from the selector shaft.

Step 6. Carefully bend back the hooks of the lock washer using a screwdriver.

Step 7. Unscrew the nut, remove the bolts, and pull the multifunction switch, along with its washers, off the selector shaft.

Before beginning, ensure the selector lever is in N, the selector lever cable is disconnected from the selector shaft lever, the securing bolts for the multifunction switch are loosened, and the selector shaft lever is removed. Use the T10173 setting gauge.

Step 1. Place the setting gauge on the selector shaft and turn the multifunction switch until the gauge engages in the lug on the switch connector.

Step 2. Secure the setting gauge on the selector shaft using a bolt.

Step 3. Tighten the securing bolts of the multifunction switch to 6 Nm.

Step 4. Remove the setting gauge and continue with the installation in reverse order.

Do not remove the gear knob. Unclip the selector cover and hold it to the side. Depress the brake pedal or set the handbrake. Press the yellow plastic wedge to release the lever from position P.

Ensure the gearbox is not in emergency mode and the ATF temperature is not above 30 degrees Celsius at the start. The vehicle must be level with the selector lever in P. Use the tester to select the function to check the ATF level. Start the engine and raise the vehicle. Place a drip tray under the gearbox. Once the temperature reaches between 35 and 45 degrees Celsius, remove the inspection plug. If fluid drips out, the level is correct. If no fluid drips out, perform a top-up.

With the engine running, screw in the VAS 6262/2 adapter hand-tight. Add 1 litre of ATF. Disconnect the VAS 6262 adapter at the quick-release connection and check for flow. If ATF flows out, allow it to drain until it just drips. Fit a new seal to the plug and tighten it to 27 Nm. If no ATF flows out, add another litre.

Remove the oil pan. Unscrew the ATF strainer bolts and pull the strainer off the valve body. For installation, thinly coat the seals on the intake neck of the new strainer with ATF. The strainer must be renewed if the seals are loose or defective. Place the strainer onto the valve body and tighten the bolts. Install the oil pan and refill the ATF as required.
