Ensure that there is sufficient clearance between low lying components and the lifting platform before driving onto it. Verify that the vehicle weight does not exceed the lifting capacity of the platform. Always lift the vehicle only at the specified points to prevent damage to the floor pan or tipping. For the front lifting point, position the support plate in the area of the side member marking and at the vertical reinforcement of the floor pan. Ensure that the side member reinforcement seats centrally on the support plate. If work is to be performed under the vehicle, it must be supported by suitable stands.

Remove the cover and pull off the protective cap from the ball head mounting. Insert the ball head into the mounting. The green mark on the hand wheel must be aligned with the white mark on the ball head, and the hand wheel must be in full contact. It should be possible to close the towing bracket lock by removing the key. If this is not possible, check for corrosion on the contact surfaces of the ball head mounting and the ball head. If corroded, eliminate corrosion with a triangular scraper, clean with silicone remover, and apply a thin coat of lubricating paste G 000 650 or G 000 150. If a new protective cap is needed, replace it to protect against corrosion.

To check during daylight or brightness, switch on the ignition and turn the light switch to the position for driving light assist. The headlights should not light up in brightness. To check in darkness, ensure the ignition is on, the light switch is in the driving light assist position, and cover the rain and light sensor, which is located centrally at the top of the windscreen, with your hand or a suitable object. The headlights should switch on.

Open the battery cover if fitted. Check if the battery clamps are secure by moving the positive and negative clamps back and forth. If the positive terminal clamp is loose, you must first disconnect the negative terminal clamp to avoid accidents. If the positive clamp is loose, tighten it to 9 Nm using a torque wrench. If the negative clamp is loose, tighten it to 9 Nm using a torque wrench.

Check the tire tread depth using an appropriate tool. The minimum tread depth is 1.6 mm. The minimum is reached when the tires have worn down level with the 1.6 mm high tread wear indicators positioned at intervals around the tire.

The fluid level must be judged in conjunction with lining and pad wear. When the vehicle is in use, the fluid level tends to drop slightly. If brake pads are almost at the wear limit, the level should be at or just above the MIN. marking, and replenishing is not required. If the brake pads are new or well within the wear limit, the level should be between the MIN. and MAX. marking. If the level is below the MIN. marking, the brake system should be checked before adding fluid.

For the front brake pads, it is recommended to remove the wheel on the side where the brake pad wear indicator is installed. For the rear pads, you can illuminate the area behind the hole in the wheel using an electric hand torch. Measure the thickness of the inner and outer pads. The wear limit is 2 mm for the pad thickness without the backplate. If this limit is reached, the pads must be renewed. When replacing brake pads, always check the brake discs for wear.

Switch on the ignition and close all doors and windows completely. Hold the front left side window in the closed position by pulling and holding the switch for longer than one second. Pull the switch again for one second. The side window must now go up or down by itself when the switch is briefly pulled or pressed. Repeat for other windows using their respective switches.

Depending on the dashboard and steering wheel equipment, use the buttons below the rev counter: press the left button to set hours and the right button to set minutes, briefly pressing to advance. Alternatively, for vehicles with a multifunction steering wheel, switch on the ignition, press the menu button to enter “Settings,” select “Time” using the adjustment buttons, confirm with the OK button, adjust hours and minutes using the adjustment buttons, and confirm settings.

Open the sliding sunroof. Check the drain holes for dirt and clean if necessary. Pour tap water into the drains to ensure it flows out of the wheel housings. If not, use the cleaning and fitting tool VAS 6620 to push out dirt from the drain valves by pushing and pulling it slowly. The drains are located inside the plenum chamber. Check the plenum chamber drains for dirt and clean as needed. After cleaning, pour water through again to verify.

The mixture depends on the required frost protection:

In summer: 1 part Windscreen Clear G 052 164 to 4 parts water.

-16 °C: 1 part Windscreen Clear G 052 164 to 2 parts water.

-35 °C: 1 part Windscreen Clear G 052 164 to 1 part water.

-40 °C: 2 parts Windscreen Clear G 052 164 to 1 part water.

Set the wipers to service position by switching the ignition on and off once with the bonnet closed and operating the wiper lever. Lift the wiper from the windscreen. For Version 1, remove the upper securing clip upwards and the lower clip downwards. Pull the blade protector off the wiper blade from bottom to top. For Version 3, pull the blade protector off the wiper blade upwards.

Raise the vehicle so that the wheels are hanging free. Check for any play by moving the track rods and the wheels. There should be zero play. Check the mountings and ensure the boots are not damaged and are seated correctly.

Using the multifunction steering wheel, press button 1 until the menu for the auxiliary heater appears. Press button 4 until “Weekday” is shown and select it using button 3. Set the weekday using buttons 4 and 2, then confirm the selection with button 3. Exit the menu using button 1.

Connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and switch on the ignition. On the diagnostic display, select “Vehicle self-diagnosis.” Then select “Collection services” and finally select “Switch off transportation mode.” Follow the instructions on the display to finish, then press the “GoTo” button to return and end the procedure.

The blocking pieces must be removed before delivering the vehicle. Raise the vehicle with a hoist to relieve the weight on the springs. Push the blocking piece off the coil spring.

Check the coolant level in the expansion tank when the engine is cold. The level must be above the MIN. marking. If the level is too low, replenish the required amount using the correct mixture ratio of coolant additive G12 Plus Plus (or G12 Plus, depending on model year specifications) and clean tap water.

The mixture ratio of coolant additive and water should be as follows:

For -25 °C protection: 40% coolant additive to 60% water.

For -35 °C protection: 50% coolant additive to 50% water.

For -40 °C protection: 60% coolant additive to 40% water.
