Set Night Light: Pair the TP-LINK TAPO T100 with Smart Lighting. It can automatically turn on your assigned smart lights when you get up at night.
Set Automatic Lighting: The smart light turns on as people come and go, then can be set to turn off automatically after a period, such as 2 minutes.
How do I set up the TP-LINK TAPO T100 Smart Motion Sensor?
Before you start, you must have a Tapo Hub already successfully added via the Tapo app.
1. Set Up Your Sensor
Tap the ‘+’ button in the Tapo app, tap Sensors, and select your model (Tapo T100). Follow the in-app instructions to complete the setup.
2. Check the LED & Set Up
Check if the LED on the sensor blinks. If you are setting up the device for the first time, you may need to remove the battery insulation tab first. If the LED does not blink, use a pin to press and hold the Reset button for 5 seconds. Follow the app instructions to complete the setup.
How should I test and place my TP-LINK TAPO T100 for optimal performance?
Testing Your Sensor
After setup, take your sensor to the preferred location and wave your hand in front of it to test it. The Tapo app should show if the sensor is triggered.
Placing Your Sensor
You have three options for placing your sensor:
Option 1: Magnetically attach it to metallic objects.
Option 2: Stick it to a clean wall with the included 3M adhesive.
Option 3: Place it on a shelf or table.
Detection Area Guidelines
For best results, the sensor should be aligned with the detection area and placed as close as possible to the edge of a table or cabinet. The installation height should not be higher than 2 meters. The sensor can detect motion up to 7 meters away within a 120° field of view.

After successfully setting up your TP-LINK TAPO T100, you can view and manage it from the Tapo app.
Home Page
This page lists all the devices you’ve added. You can view them directly and manage them easily. Tap the card for your motion sensor to enter its Status page.
Home Page Settings
Long press on a device card to access options. You can reorder cards, remove the device from your account, share your device, favorite/unfavorite it, or relocate it to another Home.
Status Page
Here you can check all events from your sensor in the Event Log. Slide the panel up to check more settings or tap the gear icon to enter the Settings page.
Device Settings
From the Settings page, you can check/edit basic info, set Notifications settings, view the User Manual and Placement Guide, or remove your device from your account.
Notifications Settings
Turn on Notifications if you want to receive app notifications when your sensor detects an event. You can set the time you want to be notified, such as Always, During the Day, During the Night, or a Custom Time.

Follow these steps to create a Smart Action using a template:
1. On the sensor’s Status page in the Tapo app, tap Explore Smart Actions.
2. Choose a template (e.g., “Turn on a night light when you get out of bed”) and customize the smart action based on the template.
3. Select the specific devices (like a smart plug or smart switch) you want to take action when the sensor detects an event.
4. Customize the settings as needed. Under the “Then” section, you can specify what the device should do (e.g., Turn On). You can also turn on Delay Action if you want the action to take place some time after the sensor detects an event. For example, you can set a delay of 3 minutes.
5. Set the effective time for this smart action. You can choose “Always” or set a “Custom Time” with specific days of the week.
6. Once done, you can go to Smart (Smart Actions) > Automation to check the item. You can toggle it on/off to enable/disable the action, tap to edit, and swipe right to delete.
How do I replace the battery in the TP-LINK TAPO T100?
If your device is mounted on the wall with 3M adhesive, please remove the main body from the mounting bracket first.
1. Remove the mounting stand from the cover.
2. Insert a shim or use your fingernail to lift the clip.
3. Twist the cover anticlockwise to remove it.
4. Remove the old battery. Insert the new CR2450 battery into the battery compartment, making sure the battery is level and its positive side is facing up.
How do I reset my TP-LINK TAPO T100 Smart Motion Sensor?
There are two ways to reset your TP-LINK TAPO T100:
Option 1: Via Reset Button
Remove the cover, then use a pin to press and hold the Reset button for 5 seconds until the front LED starts blinking.
Option 2: Via the Tapo App
You can either long press the sensor’s card on the home page and tap the remove icon, or go to the Device Settings page for the sensor and tap the Remove button to remove your sensor from your account.
