Which bobbin cases are compatible with the TOWA Bobbin Case Tension Gauge?

The compatibility of the tension gauge with different bobbin cases depends on the model number of the gauge. Please refer to the table below for the correct model for your bobbin case.

Type No. Kinds of usable bobbin cases
TM-1 BC-HR (HOME USE ROTARY TYPE)
BC-DB1, BC-DBZ (INDUSTRIAL USE ROTARY TYPE)
TM-2 BC-HA1, BC-HZ (HOME USE SHUTTLE HOOK TYPE)
TM-3 BC-DBM (ALL CLASSES)
TM-4 BC-PF9076 (ALL CLASSES)
TM-5 BC-269, BC-LK(B), BC-LK(J) (IND’ USE SHUTTLE HOOK TYPE)

How do I set the bobbin case on the tension gauge?

Follow these steps to properly set the bobbin case for measurement:

1. Set a threaded bobbin in the bobbin case and pull the thread out from the tension spring.

2. Place the bobbin case onto the Bobbin Case Set Position on the gauge.

3. The pointed end of the bobbin case Latch or Stopper must meet the corresponding groove on the Thread Guide.

• Use groove (A) for the Latch on models TM-1, TM-3, and TM-4.

• Use groove (B) for the Stopper on models TM-2 and TM-5.

How do I measure the thread tension?

After setting the bobbin case, the procedure is the same for all gauge types.

1. Thread the yarn through the No. 1 Pulley, the No. 2 Pulley, and the Thread Take-up.

2. Pull the thread lightly in the direction indicated by the arrow on the device.

3. As you pull, observe the Gauge Indicator. Read the measurement from the scale where the indicator needle stops.

How do I adjust the thread tension on the bobbin case?

If the thread tension measurement is too strong or too weak, you can adjust it directly on the bobbin case.

Use a driver to turn the tension adjusting screw on the bobbin case. Turn the screw to the right to make the tension stronger, or turn it to the left to make the tension weaker.

How do I cut the excess thread after measurement?

After you have finished measuring and adjusting the thread tension, you can cut the excess thread using the built-in thread cutter.

Press the thread against the No. 2 pulley with your finger, then guide the thread into the Thread Cutter (C) and press down to cut it.

What are the other instructions and precautions for using this device?

Please observe the following instructions to ensure the longevity and accuracy of your tension gauge:

1. This device is a precise measuring apparatus that has been carefully tested and adjusted. Please do not drop, hit it against another body, or disassemble it.

2. There are several adjustments necessary for garment sewing. Measuring the tension of the under thread in the bobbin case is required before starting any sewing work, especially when the thread or the material to be sewn is changed to a different one.

3. Keep this device away from thinner oil, benzine oil, alcohol, and petroleum.
