You can use the check function to test the indoor unit’s operation without communication with the remote controller or the outdoor unit. This function should be used for only a few minutes to avoid causing trouble with the equipment.

How to operate:

1. Short-circuit the CHK pin (CN71 on the indoor P.C. board). The operation mode will differ based on the unit’s status at that time.

• Normal time: Both float switch and fan motor are normal.

• Abnormal time: Either the float switch or the fan motor is abnormal.

2. During a “Normal time” test, you can also short-circuit the DISP pin (CN72 on the indoor P.C. board). This allows you to set the indoor PMV to its minimum opening degree (30 pls). When the DISP pin is open, the maximum opening degree (1500 pls) is obtained.

How to clear:

Open the CHK pin. The system will stop once but will automatically return to its previous operation after several minutes.

The operational status during the check function is as follows:

* To exchange the indoor PMV coil, set the indoor PMV to its maximum opening degree.

To set the indoor unit function DN code on your TOSHIBA MMD-AP0306BHP-E, use a wired remote controller while the system is at rest. Follow these steps:

Step 1. Push the SET + CL buttons simultaneously and hold for at least 4 seconds. The unit number of the header indoor unit will be displayed, and its fan and louver will move.

Step 2. Press the UNIT LOUVER button (left side) to cycle through the indoor unit numbers under group control. The fan and louver of the selected unit will move.

Step 3. Use the TEMP. buttons to select the desired CODE No. (DN code) for the function you want to change.

Step 4. Use the TIMER buttons to select the desired SET DATA for the chosen function.

Step 5. Push the SET button. The display for the set data will change from flashing to steady.

• To change the selected indoor unit, go back to step 2.

• To change the selected function, go back to step 3.

Step 6. When you are finished, push the TEST button. The system will return to its normal off state.

To control an air-to-air heat exchanger or ventilating fan connected to your TOSHIBA MMD-AP0306BHP-E, follow these steps using a wired remote controller while the system is stopped. Note that this setup must be done on the header unit in a group control.

Step 1. Press the SET, CL, and TEST buttons concurrently for 4 seconds or more. The header unit’s address will be displayed, and its fan will turn on.

Step 2. Press the UNIT LOUVER button (left side) to cycle through the indoor unit numbers in the group. The fan of the selected unit will turn on.

Step 3. Using the TEMP up/down buttons, select CODE No. 31.

Step 4. Using the TIMER up/down buttons, select the SET DATA.

• 0000: Unavailable (At shipment)

• 0001: Available

Step 5. Push the SET button. The display should go on steadily.

Step 6. Pushing the TEST button returns the system to its normal stop status.

The leaving-ON prevention control uses an external contact like a card switch box to control the unit. When the contact is ON (e.g., card inserted), operation is allowed. When the contact is OFF (e.g., card removed), the unit stops and is prohibited from starting. To set this up, handle the wired remote controller while the system is stopped:

Step 1. Push the SET, CL, and TEST buttons concurrently for 4 seconds or more.

Step 2. Using the TEMP up/down buttons, specify the CODE No. 2E.

Step 3. Using the TIMER up/down buttons, set the SET DATA to 0001.

Step 4. Push the SET button.

Step 5. Push the TEST button. The status returns to the usual stop status.

To manually set the indoor unit addresses, first ensure that the indoor wiring is complete and the outdoor wiring has not been started. Connect a wired remote controller directly to the single indoor unit you wish to set.

Step 1. Push and hold the SET, CL, and TEST buttons at the same time for more than 4 seconds. The LCD will start flashing.

Set Line (system) address:

Step 2. Push the TEMP up/down buttons to set the CODE No. to 12.

Step 3. Push the TIME up/down buttons to set the system address. Match this address with the one on the interface P.C. board of the header outdoor unit in the same refrigerant line.

Step 4. Push the SET button. The display should turn on steadily.

Set indoor unit address:

Step 5. Push the TEMP up/down buttons to set the CODE No. to 13.

Step 6. Push the TIME up/down buttons to set the indoor unit address.

Step 7. Push the SET button. The display should turn on steadily.

Set group address:

Step 8. Push the TEMP up/down buttons to set the CODE No. to 14.

Step 9. Push the TIME up/down buttons to set a group address:

• 0000 for an individual unit.

• 0001 for a header unit in a group.

• 0002 for a follower unit in a group.

Step 10. Push the SET button. The display should turn on steadily.

Step 11. Push the TEST button. The address setting is complete. The word “SETTING” will flash and then disappear, after which you can control the unit.

NOTE: Do not use address numbers 29 or 30 for system addresses, as this will cause an [E04] error.

To see the indoor unit address of an individual or group-controlled unit, perform the following steps while the units are running:

Step 1. If the units are stopped, push the ON/OFF button to start them.

Step 2. Push the UNIT LOUVER button (left side of the button). A unit number like “1-1” will be indicated on the LCD for a few seconds. This number shows the system address and the indoor unit address. If multiple units are connected in a group, pressing this button repeatedly will cycle through the addresses of all connected units.

To identify the physical location of indoor units within a group by their address, perform the following steps while the units are stopped:

Step 1. Push and hold the VENT and SWING/FIX buttons at the same time for more than 4 seconds. “ALL” will appear on the UNIT No. display, and the fans and louvers of all indoor units in the group will activate.

Step 2. Push the UNIT LOUVER button (left side). Each time you push the button, the indoor unit numbers will be indicated one after another, starting with the header unit. Only the fan and louvers of the currently indicated indoor unit will be activated, allowing you to identify its location.

Step 3. Push the TEST button to finish the procedure. All the indoor units in the group will stop.

To change the address of an individual indoor unit or a unit within a group (when addresses have already been set), follow these steps while the units are stopped:

Step 1. Push and hold the SET, CL, and TEST buttons at the same time for more than 4 seconds. The UNIT No. of the head unit will be displayed.

Step 2. If changing an address within a group, push the UNIT LOUVER button (left side) repeatedly to select the indoor unit number you wish to change. The fan and louvers of the selected unit will activate.

Step 3. Push the TEMP up/down buttons to select CODE No. 13.

Step 4. Push the TIME up/down buttons to change the SET DATA value to the new desired address.

Step 5. Push the SET button to confirm.

Step 6. Push the UNIT LOUVER button (left side) again to select another indoor unit to change, if needed. Repeat steps 4 to 6 to change other addresses, ensuring each is unique.

Step 7. After changing addresses, you can push the UNIT LOUVER button (left side) to check the newly assigned addresses.

Step 8. If the addresses have been changed correctly, push the TEST button to finish the procedure.

Clearing an error of the outdoor unit:

This procedure clears the currently detected outdoor unit error for the connected refrigerant line. The indoor unit error is not cleared.

Step 1. Push and hold the CL and TEST buttons for 4 seconds or longer to enter the service monitoring mode.

Step 2. Push the TEMP up/down button to set the CODE No. to “FF”.

Step 3. The display will count down from “0005” to “0000” in 5-second intervals. The error is cleared when “0000” appears.

Step 4. Push the TEST button to return the display to normal.

Clearing an error of the indoor unit:

Push the ON/OFF button on the remote controller. This will clear only the error of the indoor unit controlled by that remote controller.

The RBC-ATM32E wired remote controller allows you to enter a service monitoring mode to check sensor temperatures and operation status.

Step 1. Push and hold the TEST and CL buttons for 4 seconds or longer to enter the service monitoring mode. The service monitor will light up, and the temperature for CODE No. 00 will appear first.

Step 2. Push the TEMP up/down button to change to the CODE No. of the item you wish to monitor.

Step 3. Push the left part of the UNIT LOUVER button to change the item to monitor. This allows you to view the sensor temperature or operation status of the indoor and outdoor units in the refrigerant line.

Step 4. Push the TEST button to return the display to normal.

Before troubleshooting, check if the unit’s behavior is part of its normal operation. The following are normal behaviors:

You can access up to four stored errors in the memory, regardless of whether the air conditioner is on or off. This procedure should be performed when the system is at rest.

Step 1. Invoke the SERVICE CHECK mode by pressing the CHK + SET buttons simultaneously and holding for at least 4 seconds. The words “SERVICE CHECK” will light up, and the check code “01” (latest error) will be displayed along with the indoor unit number and the specific error code.

Step 2. To check other error history items, press the TEMP up/down button to select another check code. The history is stored from “01” (latest) to “04” (oldest).

Step 3. When you are finished, push the ON/OFF button. The normal display will be restored.

REQUIREMENT: Do not push the CL button, as it would erase the entire error history of the indoor unit.

The indicator lights (Operation, Timer, Ready) on the indoor unit’s receiving block can help diagnose issues. The patterns correspond to different check codes:

Other indications (not involving a check code):

Replacing the P.C. board involves transferring settings stored on an EEPROM chip. There are three methods depending on the state of the old board.

Points to Note: The EEPROM on the indoor P.C. board holds critical data like model type, capacity codes, and addresses. This data must be transferred to the new board.

Method 1: Old Board is Operable

If you can turn on the indoor unit and read data from the old P.C. board via a wired remote controller:

1. Read and record all EEPROM data using the remote controller (Procedure 1).

2. Replace the P.C. board and turn on the power (Procedure 2).

3. Write the recorded data to the new EEPROM (Procedure 3).

4. Reset the power supply for all indoor units in the group.

Method 2: Old Board is Inoperable but EEPROM is Intact

If the old board won’t power on but the EEPROM chip is likely okay:

1. Carefully remove the EEPROM chip from the old P.C. board and mount it on the service P.C. board.

2. Replace the faulty P.C. board with the service P.C. board and turn on the power (Procedure 2).

3. Read and record the EEPROM data (Procedure 1). If data cannot be read, go to Method 3.

4. Remove the old EEPROM from the service board and replace it with the new EEPROM that came with the service board.

5. Replace the service P.C. board with the new one and turn on the power again (Procedure 2).

6. Write the recorded data to the new EEPROM (Procedure 3).

7. Reset the power supply.

Method 3: EEPROM has failed

If the setting data cannot be read because the EEPROM itself has failed:

1. Replace the P.C. board and turn on the power (Procedure 2).

2. Write new EEPROM data based on information from the customer (e.g., external static pressure settings, optional connections) (Procedure 3).

3. Reset the power supply.

1. Detachment

1) Slide the filter toward the opposite side of the arrow mark on the unit, and then pull out the filter.

2) If two filters are provided, pull out the first filter. The second filter will be pulled out connected with the first filter.

2. Attachment

1) Insert the filter into the filter rail toward the arrow mark. Slide it until it stops, and then fix it.

2) If two filters are provided, insert the second filter in the same direction after inserting the first filter.

1. Detachment

1) Remove the fixing screws (A) that secure the suction panel. Then, loosen the other fixing screws (B).

2) Slide the suction panel in the direction of the arrow and then remove the panel.

2. Attachment

1) Hook the suction panel onto the loosened fixing screws (B) and tighten them.

2) Re-attach the removed screws (A) to their original positions.

1. Detachment

1) Remove screw A of the electric parts box cover to loosen screw B.

2) Slide the cover in the direction of the arrow and pull it toward you. The cover will open, pivoting on its hinge part.

3) Take the slit of the cover off the projection on the side plate to completely remove the cover.

2. Attachment

1) Hook the slit of the cover onto the projection of the side plate. Close the cover, enter screw B into the keyhole, and then slide it into place.

2) Fix the electric parts box cover by tightening screws A and B.

1. Detachment

1) First, remove the electric parts box.

2) Unlock the five card edge spacers in the electric parts box to remove the control P.C. board.

2. Attachment

1) Mount the control P.C. board in the electric parts box as original.

2) Attach the electric parts box as original.

3) Be sure to perform wiring as original in the electric parts box.

4) Attach the air filter, suction panel, and electric parts box cover as original.

NOTE: Check that there is no missing connection or contact failure on the connectors. When replacing the P.C. board, ensure the no-mex paper is attached.

1. Open the cover of the electric parts box and then remove the relay connector of the PMV motor.

2. Using a double spanner, open the check port at the side face and then remove the PMV motor.

1. Detachment

1) Open the electric parts box cover.

2) Remove the fan motor wiring connectors (CN333 and CN334) from the control P.C. board.

3) Open the lower fan case by pressing the claws on both sides.

4) Remove the two fixing screws of the fixing plate at the side of the fan motor.

5) While supporting the fan motor, remove the fixing plate from the motor base to remove the fan motor.

6) Loosen the hexagonal screw on the fan using a 3mm hexagon wrench and pull the fan from the shaft.

2. Attachment

1) Insert the fan onto the shaft, aligning the hexagonal screw hole with the groove on the shaft.

2) Secure the fan motor with the fixing plate and its screws.

3) Position the fan in the center of the upper fan case and fix it with the hexagonal screw. Tighten to 4.9 N·m.

4) Attach the lower fan case and check that the fan turns smoothly without contact.

5) Connect the fan motor wirings as before and close the electric parts box cover.

6) Attach the air filter and suction panel.

CAUTION: When replacing the fan motor, be sure to exchange the clamp filter with the fan motor lead wire.

1. Detachment

1) Open the electric parts box cover.

2) Disconnect the float switch (CN34, Red) and drain pump (CN504, White) connectors from the P.C. board.

3) Remove the two fixing screws of the check cover and take it out. The drain pump and float switch are attached to it.

4) Remove the hose band and drain hose from the pump connecting part.

5) Remove the three screws fixing the drain pump assembly to the check cover.

6) Remove the resin nut to detach the float switch from the fixing plate.

2. Attachment

1) Using the removed screws, fix the drain pump assembly as original.

2) Using the removed resin nut, fix the float switch as original.

3) Connect the drain hose and attach the hose band.

4) Connect the drain pump and float switch wiring and close the electric parts box cover.

5) Enter the corners of the check cover into the entering part and fix it with the two screws.

1. Detachment

1) First, recover the refrigerant gas and remove the refrigerant pipes from the indoor unit.

2) Detach the drain pan.

3) Pull the TC sensor and TCJ sensor wirings from the holder.

4) Remove the two screws from the piping cover and remove it.

5) Remove the single screw from the heat exchanger fixed plate.

6) While holding the heat exchanger, remove the two fixed screws from the end plate and then slowly take out the heat exchanger.

2. Attachment

1) Set the heat exchanger in its original position and fix it with the screws for the end plate, fixed plate, and piping cover.

2) Re-insert the TC sensor and TCJ sensor wirings into the holder and perform wiring as original.

3) Attach the drain pan and the bottom base as original.
