How do I remove the battery cover?
Before removing or replacing the battery cover, make sure the phone is switched off. To turn the phone off, hold down the Power key until the power-off image displays, then tap Power off.
1. Hold the device firmly and locate the cover release latch.
2. Place your fingernail in the opening and firmly “pop” the cover off the device (similar to a soda can).

What does the low battery indicator mean?
When the battery level is low and only a few minutes of talk time remain, a warning tone sounds and the “Low battery” message repeats at regular intervals on the display. In this condition, your phone conserves its remaining battery power by dimming the backlight.
When the battery level becomes too low, the phone automatically turns off.
How can I extend my phone’s battery life?
Active applications, light levels, Bluetooth usage, and GPS functionality all act to drain your battery. The following is a list of helpful tips that can help conserve your battery power:
• Reduce your backlight on time.
• Turn Bluetooth off when not in use.
• Turn Wi-Fi off when not in use.
• Deactivate the GPS when not needed. Most applications using this function will periodically query the GPS satellites for your current location; each query drains your battery.
• Do not wait until your battery is completely depleted before charging your device. Repeating this process of a complete discharge and recharge can over time reduce the storage capacity of any battery.
• Turn off Automatic application sync.
• Use the Power Savings Widget to deactivate hardware functions such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Synchronization, or LCD brightness setting.
• Check the Battery use screen to review what features or functions have been consuming your battery resources.
• Check the Running Services and close any unnecessary applications.
• Use the Task Manager feature to end/shutdown background applications that are still running. These minimized applications can, over time, cause your device to “slow down”.
• Turn off any streaming services after use (see Running Services).
• Animated wallpapers use processing power, memory, and more power. Change your Live Wallpaper to a non-animated Wallpaper gallery or Gallery image.
How do I use the Power Savings widget?
The Power Savings application was designed to quickly activate (turn on), or deactivate (turn off) those functions or applications that use the most battery power.
1. From the Home screen, touch and hold an empty area until the Add to Home menu displays.
2. Tap Widgets ➔ Power savings. The Power Control shortcut is added to the current screen.
3. Tap any of the icons on the Power Savings shortcut bar to activate/deactivate the feature. A green bar displayed beneath the icon means the application is active (turned on).
How do I perform the initial device configuration?
If you have not already configured your device after an initial firmware update, you will be prompted with a series of configuration screens.
1. Tap the on-screen Android icon to begin the setup process.
2. Tap Skip to ignore the Wi-Fi connection setup process.

The Notification area indicates new message events, calendar events, call status, etc. You can expand this area for more detailed information.
1. Tap the Status bar to reveal the Notifications tab, and then drag the tab to the bottom of the screen to open the Notifications panel.
2. Tap a notification entry to open the associated application.
To clear notifications, tap Clear. The notifications are cleared from the panel.
The panel also provides quick access to five device functions: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Silent mode, or Auto rotation. Tapping these icons will activate (green) or deactivate (white) the function.

• Adding and Removing Widgets: Touch and hold an empty area on the Home screen, tap Widgets, scroll through the available widgets, and tap one to place it. To remove a widget, touch and hold it and drag it to the Remove tab.
• Creating Folders: Touch and hold an empty area on the Home screen, tap Folders, and select a folder type to place it on the screen.
• Changing the Background (Wallpapers): Touch and hold an empty area on the Home screen, tap Wallpapers, and choose from Gallery, Live Wallpapers, or Wallpaper gallery.

To mount the SD card:
1. From the Home screen, press Home ➔ Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Storage.
2. Tap Mount SD card.
To unmount the SD card:
Unmounting the SD card prevents corruption and damage while removing it.

• To answer the call, touch and slide the green phone icon to the right.

• Hold: Places the current call on hold. Tap Unhold to resume.

1. From the Home screen, tap Messaging ➔ New message.

3. Tap the ‘Tap to enter message’ field and use the on-screen keypad to enter your message.
4. To add a multimedia attachment (and convert the message to MMS), press the Menu key and tap Add/Remove slide. You can then attach items like pictures, videos, or audio.
5. Review your message and tap Send.
How do I use the text input methods like Swype and the Samsung Keypad?
You can switch between input methods when a text field is active.
To select an input method:
1. From a screen where you can enter text, touch and hold the text input field to open the context-menu.
2. Select the input method (Samsung keypad or Swype).
Using Swype:
Swype allows you to enter a word by sliding your finger or stylus from letter to letter, lifting your finger between words. It uses error-correcting algorithms to predict the word.
Using the Samsung Keypad:
This is a standard on-screen QWERTY keypad. You can tap individual keys to enter text. It also includes XT9 predictive text, which suggests words as you type.
How do I create a new contact?
1. From the Home screen, tap the Contacts icon.
2. Tap the plus icon to create a contact.
3. Choose a destination to save the contact (Phone, SIM, T-Mobile Contacts Backup, Google, or Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync).
4. Tap the First name and Last name fields and enter a name for the contact.
5. Tap a phone number field and enter a phone number. You can add multiple numbers by tapping the plus icon.
6. Enter additional information such as Email, IM, Groups, Ringtone, etc.

1. From the Home screen, tap Camera.
2. Using the phone’s main display screen as a viewfinder, adjust the image by aiming the camera at the subject.
3. If desired, tap the icons on the left side of the screen to access various camera options and settings.
4. You can also tap the screen to move the focus to a desired area of interest.
5. Press the on-screen Camera button until the shutter sounds. The picture is automatically stored.
How do I record a video?
1. From the Home screen, tap Camera to activate the camera mode.
2. Tap and slide the Camera/Camcorder mode button down to Camcorder Mode.
3. Using the phone’s main display screen as a viewfinder, adjust the image by aiming the camcorder at the subject.
4. Tap the red Video key to begin shooting video. The red light will blink while recording.
5. Tap the Video key again to stop the recording and save the video file to your Camera folder.

To activate the Hotspot:
1. From the Home screen, press Home ➔ Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Wireless and network ➔ Tethering and portable hotspot.
2. Tap Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings ➔ OK.
3. Tap Portable Wi-Fi hotspot. This places a checkmark in the adjacent field to activate the service.
4. Tap Yes to continue with the activation.
To secure the Hotspot:
1. From the Tethering and portable hotspot menu, tap Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings ➔ Configure portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
2. Tap the Security field and select WPA2 PSK.
3. Enter a new password into the Password field.
4. Tap Save to store the new settings.
How do I set an alarm?
1. From the Home screen, tap Applications ➔ Clock.
2. Tap Create alarm.
3. Use the plus or minus symbols to enter the hour and minutes, then tap AM or PM.
4. Tap the Alarm repeat field to set how often the alarm repeats (One-time, Daily, Every weekday, or Weekly).
5. Configure other settings like Alarm type, Alarm volume, and Alarm tone.
6. Tap Save to store the new alarm event.
