Main Unit Controls:

6. OPTION: Displays the OPTION screen. Press and hold the VOICE button to activate the voice command function for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Remote Commander (RM-X170) Controls:

The remote commander operates audio controls. For menu operations, use the touch screen.

7. OFF: Turns the source off.

8. MONITOR OFF: Turns off the monitor. Press again to turn it back on.

9. EQ (equalizer): Selects an equalizer curve.

10. Number buttons (0 to 9)

11. CLEAR

12. ATT (attenuate): Attenuates the sound. Press again to cancel.

13. Play/Pause

14. Previous/Next and Fast-reverse/Fast-forward buttons: Functions vary by source:

– [Radio]: Select a preset station.

– [SXM] (SiriusXM): Select a preset channel.

– [DAB+]: Select a preset station.

– [USB]: Move to the previous/next file.

– [Bluetooth]: Move to the previous/next file.

Press and hold to:

– [Radio]: Tune automatically (SEEK+/SEEK−).

– [DAB+]: Select a station (when [Seek By] is set to [A-Z])/search for a station (when [Seek By] is set to [Station Gp]).

– [USB]: Fast-reverse/fast-forward.

– [Bluetooth]: Fast-reverse/fast-forward.

15. Directional buttons (left/up/down/right) and ENTER: Functions differ by source:

– [Radio]: Select a preset station or tune automatically.

– [SXM] (SiriusXM): Select a preset channel or move to the previous/next channel.

– [USB]: Select a folder or move to the previous/next file.

– ENTER: Enters the selected item.

16. SRC (source): Changes the source. Each press displays a selectable source in a popup.

17. MODE: Selects the radio band.

18. VOL (volume) +/-

The screen of your SONY XAV-AX3200 has several areas and icons:

Screen Layout:

1. Status indication area: Shows various status icons.

2. Source option (…): Opens the source option menu. Available items differ depending on the source.

3. Application specific area: Displays playback controls, indications, or the unit’s status, which vary by source.

4. Clock: Displays the time set in the Date/Time setting.

5. Instruction for smartphone connection: Displays instructions for connecting Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or WebLink™.

6. Return to playback screen button: Switches from the HOME screen back to the playback screen.

7. Sources and Settings select keys: Change the source or make settings. Flick to select icons.

8. Sound select keys: Changes the sound settings.

9. Standby button: Puts the unit in standby mode (USB charging is still available). Press any button to resume.

10. Monitor off button: Turns off the monitor. Touch any part of the display to turn it back on.

11. EXTRA BASS button: Changes the EXTRA BASS setting.

12. EQ10/Subwoofer button: Changes the EQ10/Subwoofer setting.

Status Indication Icons:

Source and Settings Icons (varies by model/region):

You need to perform initial settings when operating the SONY XAV-AX3200 for the first time, after replacing the car battery, or changing connections. If the settings screen does not appear, perform a factory reset.

Step 1. Touch [Language], then set the display language.

Step 2. Touch [Demo] repeatedly to select [OFF] to disable the demonstration mode.

Step 3. Touch [Set Date/Time], then set the date and time.

Step 4. After setting the date and time, touch [OK].

Step 5. Touch [Tuning Steps], then set the FM/AM tuning step (This step varies depending on your region).

Step 6. To return to the previous display, touch the back icon, then touch [OK]. The startup caution appears.

Step 7. Read through the startup caution, and if you accept all conditions, touch [Close]. The setting is complete.

When connecting a Bluetooth device for the first time, mutual registration (pairing) is required. Before connecting, turn down the volume of the SONY XAV-AX3200.

Step 1. Place the Bluetooth device within 1 m (3 ft) of the SONY XAV-AX3200.

Step 2. Press HOME, then touch [Settings].

Step 3. Touch [Bluetooth].

Step 4. Touch [Bluetooth Connection], then touch [ON]. The Bluetooth signal will turn on, and the Bluetooth icon will light up on the status bar.

Step 5. Touch [Pairing]. The Bluetooth icon will flash while the unit is in pairing standby mode.

Step 6. Perform pairing on the Bluetooth device so it detects the SONY XAV-AX3200.

Step 7. Select your model name (SONY XAV-AX3200) shown on the display of the Bluetooth device. If your model name does not appear, repeat from step 5. If a confirmation display appears, operate the Bluetooth device to approve the connection, then touch [OK] on the unit.

Step 8. If passkey input is required on the Bluetooth device, input [0000]. When pairing is complete, the Bluetooth icon will stay lit.

Step 9. Select the SONY XAV-AX3200 on the Bluetooth device to establish the connection. The mobile phone or audio icon will light up when the connection is made.

Note:

– The unit can only be connected with one Bluetooth device at a time.

– To disconnect, turn the connection off from either the unit or the Bluetooth device.

– Bluetooth pairing is not possible while Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is running.

To use a paired device, a connection with the SONY XAV-AX3200 is required. Some devices connect automatically.

Step 1. Press HOME, then touch [Settings].

Step 2. Touch [Bluetooth].

Step 3. Touch [Bluetooth Connection], then touch [ON]. Make sure the Bluetooth icon is lit on the status bar.

Step 4. Activate the Bluetooth function on the Bluetooth device.

Step 5. Operate the Bluetooth device to connect to the SONY XAV-AX3200. The mobile phone or audio icon will light up on the status bar.

To connect the last-connected device:

When the car’s ignition is turned on with the Bluetooth signal activated on the SONY XAV-AX3200, the unit will search for the last-connected Bluetooth device and connect automatically.

Note: While streaming Bluetooth audio, you cannot connect from the unit to a mobile phone. You must initiate the connection from the mobile phone instead.

Installation of a rear view camera (not supplied) is required before use. The picture from the rear view camera connected to the CAMERA IN terminal on your SONY XAV-AX3200 is displayed when:

– The back lamp of your car lights up (or the shift lever is set to the R (reverse) position).

– You press HOME, then touch [Rear Camera].

To listen to the radio, press HOME, then touch [Radio].

Reception Controls/Indications:

A. Current band: Change the band (FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1 or AM2).

B. Current frequency/program service name: Displays station information.

C. Radio option (…): Opens the radio option menu.

D. SEEK−/SEEK+: Tune in automatically.

E. Left/Right arrows: Tune in manually. Touch and hold to continuously skip frequencies.

F. Preset numbers: Select a preset station. Swipe to show other presets. Touch and hold to store the current frequency to that preset.

Tuning Methods:

Step 1. Select the desired band (FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1 or AM2).

Step 2. Perform tuning:

– To tune automatically: Touch SEEK–/SEEK+. Scanning stops when a station is received.

– To tune manually: Touch and hold the left/right arrows to locate the approximate frequency, then touch the arrows repeatedly to fine-tune.

To store a station manually: While receiving the station, touch and hold the desired preset number.

To receive stored stations: Select the band, then touch the desired preset number.

The following functions are available by touching the option icon (…) on the top-right of the radio screen of your SONY XAV-AX3200:

[BTM (Best Tuning Memory)]

Stores stations in order of frequency on the preset numbers. 18 stations for FM and 12 stations for AM can be stored.

[AF] (Alternative Frequencies)

Selects [ON] to continuously retune the station to the strongest signal in a network. (Only available during FM reception.)

[TA] (Traffic Announcement)

Selects [ON] to receive current traffic information or traffic programs (TP) if available. (Only available during FM reception.)

[Regional]

Selects [ON] to stay with the station you are receiving while the AF function is on. If you leave the reception area, select [OFF]. This function does not work in all areas. (Only available during FM reception.)

[PTY] (Program Type)

Selects a program type from the PTY list to search for a station broadcasting that type. (Only available during FM reception.)

To receive emergency announcements:

With the AF or TA function on, emergency announcements will automatically interrupt the currently selected source.

A SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner and Subscription are required to use this feature on your SONY XAV-AX3200.

To activate your SiriusXM Subscription:

Step 1. After installing your SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner and antenna, press HOME, then touch [SXM]. You should hear the SiriusXM preview channel on Channel 1.

Step 2. Select Channel 0 to find the Radio ID of your radio. The Radio ID is also located on the bottom of the tuner and its packaging. You will need this number to activate your subscription.

Step 3. Activate your subscription online or by phone. Once subscribed, the SiriusXM satellites will send an activation message to your radio. This usually takes 10 to 15 minutes but can take up to an hour. Your radio needs to be turned on and receiving the SiriusXM signal to receive the message.

Step 4. When the radio displays “[Subscription Updated Press Enter to Continue]”, you can tune to channels in your subscription plan.

To display the SiriusXM Radio ID manually:

Step 1. Press HOME, then touch [SXM].

Step 2. Touch the option icon (…), then select [Channel Direct Select].

Step 3. Input [000], then touch [OK].

The parental control feature on your SONY XAV-AX3200 allows you to limit access to SiriusXM channels with mature content by setting a passcode.

Setting a Parental Control Passcode:

Step 1. Touch the option icon (…) on the SiriusXM radio screen, then touch [Parental Control]. The passcode input display will appear.

Step 2. Enter your desired 4-digit passcode by touching the number keys, then touch [OK]. The passcode confirmation display will appear.

Step 3. Enter the 4-digit passcode again, then touch [OK]. The parental control is applied, and the channels are locked.

To unlock/relock channels:

Step 1. Touch the option icon (…), then touch [Parental Control].

Step 2. Enter your 4-digit passcode and touch [OK]. This will unlock the channels.

To change the passcode:

Step 1. Touch the option icon (…), then touch [Pass Code Change], and enter your current passcode.

Step 2. Enter your new passcode, then touch [OK].

Step 3. Enter your new passcode again, then touch [OK].

You can play media from MSC (Mass Storage Class) type USB devices like a USB flash drive on your SONY XAV-AX3200.

Step 1. Turn down the volume on the unit.

Step 2. Connect the USB device to the USB port.

Step 3. Press HOME, then touch [USB]. Playback will start automatically.

To remove the USB device:

Turn the unit off or turn the ignition switch to the ACC off position, then remove the USB device.

You can play content from a connected device that supports Bluetooth A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) on your SONY XAV-AX3200.

Step 1. Make a Bluetooth connection with the audio device.

Step 2. Press HOME, then touch [Bluetooth].

Step 3. Operate the audio device to start playback.

To match the volume level to other sources:

If the volume of the Bluetooth device is different from other sources, you can adjust it. During playback, touch the option icon (…) and set [Input Level] between −6 and +6.

Note:

– Depending on the device, information like title and track number may not be displayed.

– Changing the source on the SONY XAV-AX3200 does not stop playback on the audio device.

– Bluetooth pairing is not possible while Apple CarPlay is running.

To use handsfree calling, you must first connect your mobile phone to the SONY XAV-AX3200 via Bluetooth. The handsfree calling functions are not available when Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is active; use the calling functions of the respective application instead.

Receiving a Call:

– When a call is received, touch the call icon on the screen. The phone call starts.

– The ringtone and talker’s voice are output from the front speakers. You can change this in Settings > Sound > [Phone Call Sound].

To reject or end a call:

– Touch the end call icon.

Making a Call:

Step 1. Press HOME, then touch [Phone].

Step 2. Touch one of the call icons on the Bluetooth phone display:

– Call history: Select a contact from the list of the last 20 calls.

– Redial: Automatically call the last contact you made.

– Contacts: Select a contact from your phone’s name/number list.

– Dialpad: Enter the phone number manually.

– Favorites: Select a stored contact.

Step 3. Touch the call icon to start the call.

To add phone numbers to Favorites:

You can store up to 6 contacts in Favorites.

Step 1. On the phone screen, touch the contacts icon and select a phone number you want to store.

Step 2. Touch [Add to Favorites].

Step 3. Touch the desired preset location in Favorites to store the phone number.

During a handsfree call on your SONY XAV-AX3200, you can perform several operations:

– To adjust the ringtone volume: Press VOL +/- while receiving a call.

– To adjust the talker’s voice volume: Press VOL +/- during a call.

– To adjust the volume for the other party (Mic gain adjustment): During a call, touch the option icon (…) and set [MIC Gain] to [High], [Middle], or [Low].

– To reduce echo and noise: During a call, touch the option icon (…) and set [Speech Quality] to [Mode 1] or [Mode 2].

– To switch between handsfree and handheld mode: During a call, touch the speaker/phone icon to switch the call audio between the SONY XAV-AX3200 and your mobile phone.

– To answer an incoming call automatically: Touch the option icon (…) and set [Auto Answer] to [ON].

You can perform frequently-used operations on your SONY XAV-AX3200 by swiping your finger on the reception/playback display. Note: These gestures are not available on the screens of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and WebLink™.

Swipe left to right:

– Radio reception: Seek forward to the next station.

– SiriusXM reception: Tune the next channel (channel +).

– Video/audio playback: Skip forward to the next file/track.

Swipe right to left:

– Radio reception: Seek backward to the previous station.

– SiriusXM reception: Tune the previous channel (channel −).

– Video/audio playback: Skip backward to the previous file/track.

Swipe upwards:

– Radio reception: Go forward through stored preset stations.

– SiriusXM reception: Tune to the next preset (preset +).

Swipe downwards:

– Radio reception: Go backward through stored preset stations.

– SiriusXM reception: Tune to the previous preset (preset −).

To access General Settings on your SONY XAV-AX3200, press HOME, then touch [Settings], then select the [General] category.

To access Sound Settings on your SONY XAV-AX3200, press HOME, then touch [Settings], then select the [Sound] category.

To update the firmware on your SONY XAV-AX3200, you need to visit the support site and follow the online instructions provided there. During the update, do not remove the USB device.

The SONY XAV-AX3200 supports the following formats for USB playback:

Audio Formats:

– WMA (.wma): 48 kbps – 192 kbps (VBR), 44.1 kHz

– MP3 (.mp3): 48 kbps – 320 kbps (VBR), 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz

– AAC (.m4a): 40 kbps – 320 kbps (VBR), 8 kHz – 48 kHz, 16 bits

– FLAC (.flac): 8 kHz – 48 kHz, 16 bits

– WAV (.wav): 8 kHz – 48 kHz, 16 bits, 24 bits

Video Formats:

– Xvid (.avi): Video: MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile; Audio: MP3; Max. 4 Mbps, 30 fps, 1280 × 720 resolution.

– MPEG-4 (.mp4): Video: MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile, AVC Baseline Profile; Audio: AAC; Max. 4 Mbps, 30 fps, 1280 × 720 resolution.

– WMV (.wmv, .avi): Video: WMV3, WVC1; Audio: MP3, WMA; Max. 6 Mbps, 30 fps, 720 × 480 resolution.

– MKV (.mkv): Video: MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile, AVC Baseline Profile; Audio: MP3, AAC; Max. 5 Mbps, 30 fps, 1280 × 720 resolution.

Notes:

– Copyright-protected, multi-channel audio, and DRM files cannot be played back.

– Some files may not play back even if their formats are supported.

When the battery becomes weak, the range of the remote commander becomes shorter. Replace the lithium battery (CR2025) as follows:

CAUTION: Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.

Follow the diagram provided in the user manual to open the battery compartment, remove the old battery, and insert the new CR2025 battery with the + side facing up. Ensure the battery compartment is securely closed.

Note: Keep the lithium battery out of the reach of children. If a battery is swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.

If there is no beep sound from your SONY XAV-AX3200, it may be because an optional power amplifier is connected and you are not using the built-in amplifier.

This issue can occur if the power supply leads are not matched correctly with the car’s accessory power connector. Check the wiring to ensure it is correct.

The monitor off function is likely activated. Touch anywhere on the display to turn the display back on.

Unavailable menu items are displayed in gray on the SONY XAV-AX3200. This means the option is not available under the current conditions or with the current source selected.

If you are using a USB extension cable, it may cause deterioration of signal quality. Try using a shorter USB cable when connecting the USB device, or replace the USB cable with a new one.

Press and hold the HOME button for more than 10 seconds to restart the unit. For your safety, do not restart the unit while you are driving.

The clock data on radio waves (RDS or DAB) may not be accurate. To fix this, set the clock manually:

Press HOME, select [Settings] -> [General] -> [Date/Time] -> [Set Date/Time], then set to [Manual]. After that, touch the register/setup icon and adjust the clock manually.

If the touch screen on your SONY XAV-AX3200 is not responding correctly, try the following:

– Touch one part of the touch screen at a time. If two or more parts are touched simultaneously, the screen will not react correctly.

– Calibrate the touch screen of the display. Go to Settings > Visual > Touch Screen Adjust.

– Touch the pressure-sensitive screen firmly.

Multi-touch operation is not supported on the SONY XAV-AX3200, as it uses a resistive touch screen.

Poor radio reception or static noise is often caused by a loose antenna connection. Connect the antenna (aerial) firmly.

If you cannot receive radio stations, the tuning step setting may have been erased. Go to General Settings and set the tuning step again for your region.

There are several possible reasons for no picture or picture noise:

– Incorrect connection: Check the connection between the SONY XAV-AX3200 and other equipment, and ensure the correct input source is selected on the other equipment.

– Incorrect installation angle: Install the unit at an angle of less than 30° in a sturdy part of the car.

– Parking brake not connected/applied: For video playback, the parking lead (light green) must be connected to the parking brake switch lead, and the parking brake must be applied. Check the connection and apply the parking brake.

If you are experiencing sound issues, check the following:

– Connections: A connection has not been made correctly. Check the connection between this unit and the connected equipment and set the input selector of the equipment to the source corresponding to this unit.

– Installation: The installation is not correct. Install the unit at an angle of less than 30° in a sturdy part of the car.

– Playback mode: The unit is in pause/reverse/fast-forward mode.

– Output settings: The settings for the outputs are not made correctly.

– Volume: The volume is too low.

– ATT function: The ATT (attenuate) function is activated. Press the ATT button again to deactivate it.

– File format: The format is not supported. Check if the format is supported by the SONY XAV-AX3200.

If items cannot be played from your USB device, try reconnecting the USB device. If playback takes a long time to start, it may be because the USB device contains large-sized files or has a complicated file structure.

The SONY XAV-AX3200 does not support USB devices formatted with file systems other than FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, or exFAT. While the unit supports these formats, some USB devices may not support all of them. Check your USB device’s formatting and manual.

If another device cannot find your SONY XAV-AX3200, check the following:

– In the unit’s settings, ensure [Bluetooth Connection] is set to [ON].

– While the SONY XAV-AX3200 is connected to one Bluetooth device, it cannot be detected by another. Terminate the current connection and then search for the unit from the other device.

– On your smartphone, you may need to delete the SONY XAV-AX3200 from its history of connected devices, then pair them again.

A call might be answered unintentionally for two reasons:

– Your connecting phone is set to answer calls automatically.

– The [Auto Answer] feature on the SONY XAV-AX3200 is set to [ON]. Check the settings during a call to turn this off.

If pairing fails, it could be due to a timeout. Depending on the device, the time limit for pairing may be short. Try completing the pairing process more quickly.

If you have initialized the SONY XAV-AX3200, it may not be able to pair with a previously paired device because the old pairing information still exists on that device. In this case, delete the pairing information for the SONY XAV-AX3200 from the Bluetooth device, and then pair them again.

For Apple CarPlay:

– Your iPhone may not be compatible with Apple CarPlay.

– Disconnect your iPhone from the USB port and reconnect it again.

– Apple CarPlay may not be available in your country or region.

– Ensure you are using a certified Lightning cable to connect your iPhone to the unit.

For Android Auto:

– Check your Android phone and accept the disclaimers and permission requests required to use Android Auto.

– The Android Auto application may not be installed on your phone. Download and install it.

– Your Android phone may not be compatible. It needs to support Android Auto.

– Disconnect your Android phone from the USB port and reconnect it again.

– Android Auto may not be available in your country or region.

This message indicates that the channel you have requested is locked by the radio’s Parental Control feature. You will need to enter the correct passcode to access locked channels. Refer to the “Setting a Parental Control” instructions for more information.

Check Antenna: This message means the radio has detected a fault with the SiriusXM antenna. The antenna cable may be disconnected or damaged.

– Verify that the antenna cable is securely connected to the SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner.

– Inspect the antenna cable for damage and kinks. Replace the antenna if it is damaged.

Check Tuner: This message means the radio is having difficulty communicating with the SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner. The tuner itself may be disconnected or damaged.

– Verify that the SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner cable is securely connected to the radio.
