– USB/Bluetooth: Fast-reverse/fast-forward.

6. OPTION

– Displays the OPTION screen.

– VOICE: Press and hold to activate the voice command function for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

9. EQ (equalizer): Selects an equalizer curve.

15. Arrows / ENTER

– Radio: Select a preset station or tune automatically.

– SXM: Select a preset channel or move to the previous/next channel.

– USB: Select a folder or move to the previous/next file.

– ENTER: Enters the selected item.

16. SRC (source): Changes the source. Each time you press this button, a selectable source is displayed in a popup.

17. MODE: Selects the radio band.

18. VOL (volume) +/-

The screen is divided into several areas:

1. Status indication area: Displays various status icons.

2. … (source option): Opens the source option menu. Available items differ depending on the source.

3. Application specific area: Displays playback controls/indications or shows the unit’s status. Displayed items differ depending on the source.

4. Clock: Displays the time set in the Date/Time setting.

5. Instruction for smartphone connection icon: Displays the instruction for connecting Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or WebLink™.

6. Return to playback screen icon: Switches from the HOME screen to the playback screen.

7. Sources and Settings select keys: Changes the source or makes various settings. Flick to select the setting icon and other icons.

8. Sound select keys: Changes the sound.

9. Standby icon: Turns the unit in standby mode (USB charging is still available). To resume, press any buttons.

10. Monitor off icon: Turns off the monitor. Touch any part of the display to turn it back on.

11. EXTRA BASS icon: Changes the EXTRA BASS setting.

12. EQ10/Subwoofer icon: Changes the EQ10/Subwoofer setting.

Status Icons:

Source/Setting Icons:

You need to perform initial settings before operating the unit for the first time, after replacing the car battery, or changing connections. If the initial settings screen does not appear, perform a factory reset.

1. Touch [Language], then set the display language.

2. Touch [Demo] repeatedly to select [OFF] to disable the demonstration mode.

3. Touch [Set Date/Time], then set the date and time. (XAV-AX3250(EUR) models skip to step 5).

4. After setting the date and time, touch [OK].

5. Touch [Tuning Steps], then set the FM/AM tuning step. (Certain models only).

6. To return to the previous display, touch the back icon, then touch [OK]. The startup caution appears.

7. Read through the startup caution, then if you accept all conditions, touch [Close]. The setting is complete.

When connecting a Bluetooth device for the first time, mutual registration (pairing) is required.

1. Place the Bluetooth device within 1 m (3 ft) of the unit.

2. Press HOME, then touch [Settings].

3. Touch [Bluetooth].

4. Touch [Bluetooth Connection], then touch [ON]. The Bluetooth icon lights up on the status bar.

5. Touch [Pairing]. The Bluetooth icon flashes while the unit is in pairing standby mode.

6. Perform pairing on the Bluetooth device so it detects the SONY XAV-AX3250.

7. Select your model name shown on the display of the Bluetooth device. If your model name does not appear, repeat from step 5.

8. If passkey input is required on the Bluetooth device, input [0000]. When pairing is complete, the Bluetooth icon stays lit.

9. Select this unit on the Bluetooth device to establish the connection. The mobile phone or audio icon lights up when the connection is made.

Note:

– The unit can only be connected with one Bluetooth device at a time.

– To disconnect, turn the connection off from either the unit or the Bluetooth device.

– Bluetooth pairing is not possible while Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is running.

To use a paired device, a connection is required. Some paired devices will connect automatically.

To connect from the Bluetooth device:

1. Press HOME, then touch [Settings].

2. Touch [Bluetooth].

3. Touch [Bluetooth Connection], then touch [ON]. Make sure the Bluetooth icon is lit on the status bar.

4. Activate the Bluetooth function on the Bluetooth device.

5. Operate the Bluetooth device to connect to the SONY XAV-AX3250. The mobile phone or audio icon will light up on the status bar.

To connect the last-connected device from the unit:

When the ignition is turned on with the Bluetooth signal activated, this unit searches for the last-connected Bluetooth device, and the connection is made automatically.

Installation of a rear view camera (not supplied) is required before use.

The picture from the rear view camera connected to the CAMERA IN terminal is displayed when:

– The back lamp of your car lights up (or the shift lever is set to the R (reverse) position).

– You press HOME, then touch [Rear Camera].

Press HOME, then touch [Radio].

To tune automatically:

Touch SEEK–/SEEK+. Scanning stops when the unit receives a station.

To tune manually:

Touch and hold ◀ / ▶ (left/right) to locate the approximate frequency, then touch ◀ / ▶ repeatedly to fine-tune.

To store a station manually:

While receiving the station that you want to store, touch and hold the desired preset number (1-6).

To receive stored stations:

Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3, AM1, or AM2), then touch the desired preset number.

Radio Option Functions:

Touch the … (radio option) icon to access the following functions:

– [BTM (Best Tuning Memory)]: Stores stations in order of frequency on the preset numbers.

– [AF] (XAV-AX3250(EUR)): Continuously retunes the station to the strongest signal in a network.

– [TA] (XAV-AX3250(EUR)): Receives current traffic information or traffic programs (TP) if available.

– [Regional] (XAV-AX3250(EUR)): Stays with the current station even if leaving its reception area when AF is on.

– [PTY]: Selects a program type to search for a station broadcasting that type.

A SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner and Subscription are required.

To activate your SiriusXM Subscription:

1. After installing the tuner, press HOME, then touch [SXM]. You should hear the preview channel on Channel 1.

2. Select Channel 0 to find the Radio ID of your radio. You will need this number to activate your subscription.

To display the SiriusXM Radio ID:

1. Press HOME, then touch [SXM].

2. Touch … (option), then select [Channel Direct Select].

3. Input [000], then touch [OK].

Tuning Channels:

– Use CH− / CH+ to select the previous/next channel.

– Touch the channel number/name area to input a channel number directly.

– Touch the list icon to open the channel or category list for tuning.

– Touch and hold a preset number to store the current channel.

Parental Control:

This feature limits access to channels with mature content.

1. Touch … (option) on the SiriusXM radio screen, then touch [Parental Control].

2. Enter a 4-digit passcode, then touch [OK].

3. Enter the 4-digit passcode again, then touch [OK]. The parental control is applied.

To change the passcode, select [Pass Code Change] from the option menu.

1. Turn down the volume on the unit.

2. Connect the USB device to the USB port.

3. Press HOME, then touch [USB]. Playback starts automatically.

To search for a file:

1. During USB playback, touch the list icon.

2. The list screen of the currently played item appears. You can touch an audio or video icon to list files by type.

3. Touch the desired item to start playback.

To remove the USB device:

Turn the unit off or turn the ignition switch to the ACC off position, then remove the USB device.

First, connect your mobile phone via Bluetooth.

Receiving a Call:

– Touch the call icon when a call is received. The phone call starts.

– To reject or end a call, touch the end a call icon.

Making a Call:

1. Press HOME, then touch [Phone].

2. Touch one of the call icons on the Bluetooth phone display:

– Call history: Select a contact from the list of the last 20 calls.

– Redial: Automatically call the last contact you made.

– Contacts: Select a contact from your phone’s name list.

– Dialpad: Enter the phone number manually.

– Favorites: Select a stored contact.

3. Touch the call icon to start the call.

Operations During a Call:

– To adjust the ringtone volume, press VOL +/− while receiving a call.

– To adjust the talker’s voice volume, press VOL +/− during a call.

– To adjust the volume for the other party (Mic gain), touch … (option), then set [MIC Gain] to [High], [Middle], or [Low].

– To reduce echo and noise, touch … (option), then set [Speech Quality] to [Mode 1] or [Mode 2].

– To switch between handsfree and handheld mode, touch the speaker/phone icon.

Apple CarPlay:

1. Connect your iPhone to the USB port using a USB connection cable for iPhone (not supplied).

2. Press HOME, then touch the Apple CarPlay icon.

3. Your iPhone’s display appears on the unit’s display. You can now touch and control the applications.

Android Auto:

1. Download the Android Auto app on your phone from Google Play.

2. Connect your Android phone to the USB port using an appropriate connection cable (not supplied).

3. Press HOME, then touch the Android Auto icon.

4. The Android Auto interface will be displayed. You can now touch and control the applications.

WebLink™:

1. Download the “WebLink Host” app on your iPhone or Android phone.

2. Connect your phone with the main unit via Bluetooth.

3. Connect your phone to the USB port using an appropriate connection cable (not supplied).

4. Press HOME, then touch the WebLink™ icon.

5. The WebLink™ display appears on the unit. You can now touch and control the applications.

You can perform frequently-used operations by swiping your finger on the reception/playback display. These commands are not available on Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and WebLink™ screens.

Swipe left to right:

– Radio reception: Seek forward stations.

– SiriusXM reception: Tune the next channel (channel +).

– Video/audio playback: Skip forward a file/track.

Swipe right to left:

– Radio reception: Seek backward stations.

– SiriusXM reception: Tune the previous channel (channel −).

– Video/audio playback: Skip backward a file/track.

Swipe upwards:

– Radio reception: Go forward through stored stations.

– SiriusXM reception: Tune the next preset (preset +).

Swipe downwards:

– Radio reception: Go backward through stored stations.

– SiriusXM reception: Tune the previous preset (preset −).

1. Press HOME, then touch [Settings].

2. Touch one of the setup categories: General, Sound, Visual, or Bluetooth. The items that can be set may differ depending on the source and settings.

3. Move the scrollbar up and down to select the desired item to change.

– To return to the previous display, touch the back icon.

– To switch to the playback screen, touch the return to playback screen icon.

– Language: Selects the display language.

– Demo: Activates or deactivates the demonstration mode.

– Date/Time: Sets the date and clock time ([Auto] or [Manual]), date format, and time format (12-hour/24-hour).

– Beep: Activates or deactivates the operation sound.

– Rear View Camera: Selects the image from the camera ([OFF], [Normal], [Reverse]) and allows for guide line adjustment.

– Steering Control: Sets the input mode for a connected remote control ([Custom] or [Preset]).

– Driving Position: Optimizes the usability of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for [Left Side] or [Right Side] driving.

– Tuning Steps: Sets the FM/AM tuning step for your country or region.

– SXM Reset: Initializes SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner settings.

– Factory Reset: Initializes all settings to factory settings.

– Firmware Version: Updates and confirms the firmware version.

– Open Source Licenses: Displays software licenses.

Sound Settings (Sound)

– EXTRA BASS: Reinforces bass sound in synchronization with the volume level: [OFF], [1], [2].

– EQ10/Subwoofer: Selects an equalizer curve (e.g., [Rock], [Pop], [Custom]) and adjusts the subwoofer level.

– Balance/Fader: Adjusts the sound balance between left/right and front/rear speakers.

– Crossover: Adjusts the cut-off frequency for High Pass Filter (front/rear speakers) and Low Pass Filter (subwoofer), and sets the subwoofer phase.

– DSO (Dynamic Stage Organizer): Enhances audio output: [OFF], [Low], [Middle], [High].

– Volume Settings: Adjusts the volume level of each source (Media, Radio Announcements, Phone Call, etc.) from 0 to 50.

– Phone Call Sound: Selects the speakers for handsfree calling: [Front], [Rear], [All].

– Guidance during Call: Activates notices of Apple CarPlay during a phone call: [ON], [OFF].

Visual Settings (Visual)

– Wallpaper: Changes the wallpaper by touching the desired color or setting a photo from a USB device as wallpaper.

– Dimmer for Monitor & Illum.: Dims the display and button illumination: [OFF], [Auto], [ON].

– Illum. Level on Monitor OFF: Dims the button illumination when the monitor is turned off.

– Touch Screen Adjust: Adjusts the touch screen calibration.

The following formats are supported for USB playback:

Audio Files:

– WMA (.wma): 48 kbps – 192 kbps (VBR), 44.1 kHz

– MP3 (.mp3): 48 kbps – 320 kbps (VBR), 32/44.1/48 kHz

– AAC (.m4a): 40 kbps – 320 kbps (VBR), 8 kHz – 48 kHz

– FLAC (.flac): 8 kHz – 48 kHz, 16 bits

– WAV (.wav): 8 kHz – 48 kHz, 16/24 bits

Video Files:

– Xvid (.avi): Video: MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile, Audio: MP3, Max 4 Mbps, Max 30 fps, Max Res: 1280 × 720

– MPEG-4 (.mp4): Video: MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile/AVC Baseline Profile, Audio: AAC, Max 4 Mbps, Max 30 fps, Max Res: 1280 × 720

– WMV (.wmv, .avi): Video: WMV3/WVC1, Audio: MP3/WMA, Max 6 Mbps, Max 30 fps, Max Res: 720 × 480

– MKV (.mkv): Video: MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile/AVC Baseline Profile, Audio: MP3/AAC, Max 5 Mbps, Max 30 fps, Max Res: 1280 × 720

Note: Copyright-protected, multi-channel audio, and DRM files cannot be played back. Some files may not play even if the format is supported.

When the battery becomes weak, the range of the remote commander becomes shorter. Replace the lithium battery (CR2025) with a new one.

CAUTION: Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.

The battery should be inserted with the + side up.

Keep the lithium battery out of the reach of children. If the battery is swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.

This may occur if an optional power amplifier is connected and you are not using the built-in amplifier.

The power supply leads are not matched correctly with the car’s accessory power connector.

The monitor off function is activated. Touch anywhere on the display to turn the display back on.

Unavailable menu items are displayed in gray and cannot be selected.

Press and hold the HOME button for more than 10 seconds to restart the unit. For your safety, do not restart the unit while you are driving.

The clock data on the radio waves is not accurate.

To fix this, set the clock manually: Press HOME, select [Settings] -> [General] -> [Date/Time] -> [Set Date/Time], then set to [Manual]. Adjust the clock manually.

– Touch one part of the touch screen at a time. If two or more parts are touched simultaneously, the touch screen will not react correctly.

– Calibrate the touch screen of the display via [Settings] -> [Visual] -> [Touch Screen Adjust].

– Touch the pressure-sensitive screen firmly.

Connect the antenna (aerial) firmly.

– A connection has not been made correctly. Check the connection between this unit and other equipment, and set the input selector of the equipment to the source corresponding to this unit.

– Installation is not correct. Install the unit at an angle of less than 30° in a sturdy part of the car.

– The parking lead (light green) is not connected or the parking brake is not applied. Check that the parking lead is firmly connected to the parking brake switch lead, then apply the parking brake.

– A connection has not been made correctly. Check the connection between this unit and the connected equipment.

– Installation is not correct. Install the unit at an angle of less than 30° in a sturdy part of the car.

– The unit is in pause/reverse/fast-forward mode.

– The settings for the outputs are not made correctly.

– The volume is too low.

– The ATT (attenuate) function is activated.

– The format is not supported. Check if the format is supported by this unit.

USB devices formatted with file systems other than FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 or exFAT are unsupported. While the SONY XAV-AX3250 supports these formats, some USB devices may not support all of them.

– Set [Bluetooth Connection] to [ON] in the settings.

– While connecting to a Bluetooth device, this unit cannot be detected by another device. Terminate the current connection and search for this unit from the other device.

– Depending on your smartphone, you may need to delete this unit from its connection history, then pair them again.

Adjust the [MIC Gain] level. During a call, touch the option icon (…) and set [MIC Gain] to [High], [Middle], or [Low].

– Reduce the volume.

– Set [Speech Quality] to [Mode 1] or [Mode 2].

– If ambient noise (e.g., road noise, air conditioner) is loud, try reducing it by shutting the window or lowering the air conditioner.

– Reduce the distance between the unit and the Bluetooth device.

– If the Bluetooth device is in a case that interrupts the signal, remove it.

– Several Bluetooth devices or other devices (e.g., ham radio) which emit radio waves are used nearby. Turn off the other devices or increase the distance between them and the unit.

– Playback sound may stop momentarily when the unit connects to a mobile phone. This is not a malfunction.

The unit may not be able to pair with a previously paired Bluetooth device after initializing the unit. If the pairing information of the unit is still on the Bluetooth device, delete it from the device and then pair them again.

Turn the ignition off. Wait for a while, then turn the ignition to the ACC position.

If the sound is outputting from the mobile phone, set the mobile phone to output the sound from the car speakers.

– Check that the A/V cable is firmly inserted into the unit.

– Check that a mini-jack A/V cable (not supplied) with the correct wiring positions is being used. Using other cables with different wiring positions might result in disturbed images and sound.

– Your iPhone may not be compatible with Apple CarPlay. Refer to the manual supplied with your iPhone.

– Disconnect your iPhone from the USB port and reconnect it again.

– Apple CarPlay may not be available in your country or region.

– Make sure a certified Lightning cable is used to connect your iPhone and the unit.

– Check your Android phone and accept the disclaimers and permission requests required to use Android Auto.

– There is no Android Auto application installed on your Android phone. Download and install the application onto your phone.

– Your Android phone is not compatible with Android Auto. Refer to the manual supplied with your Android phone.

– Disconnect your Android phone from the USB port and reconnect it again.

– Android Auto may not be available in your country or region.

– Installing the “WebLink Host” app on your iPhone/Android phone is required.

– Check your iPhone/Android phone and accept the disclaimers and permission to use WebLink™.

– Disconnect your iPhone/Android phone from the USB port and reconnect it again.

– Restart your iPhone/Android phone.

– WebLink™ may not be available in your country or region.

– Channel Locked Please Enter the Lock Code: The requested channel is locked by the Parental Control feature.

– Channel Not Available: The requested channel is not a valid SiriusXM channel or is no longer available.

– Channel Not Subscribed Call SiriusXM to Subscribe: The channel is not included in your subscription package.

– Check Antenna: The radio has detected a fault with the SiriusXM antenna. Verify the cable is connected and not damaged.

– Check Tuner: The radio is having difficulty communicating with the SiriusXM tuner. Verify the tuner cable is securely connected.

– Incorrect Pass Code entered: The passcode input failed. Check that the passcode was entered correctly or perform an [SXM Reset].

– No Signal: The tuner is having difficulty receiving the satellite signal. Ensure your vehicle is outdoors with a clear view of the sky and the antenna is properly mounted.

– Subscription Updated Press Enter to Continue: The radio has detected a change in your subscription status. Press Enter to clear the message.
