What can I do with the FTP function on the SONY ILME-FX2B?

With the SONY ILME-FX2B, you can connect the camera to a network via a wired LAN or wireless LAN and transfer still images and movies to an FTP server. By configuring the network and FTP server settings, you can flexibly switch between different transfer methods.

You can perform the following actions:

• Select the type of image to transfer (still images/movies, protected images, or yet-to-be-transferred images) and transfer them in a batch.

• Transfer still images/movies automatically during shooting.

• Transfer playback images one by one.

You can also choose the type of still-image/movie file to transfer, and save or load settings for the FTP function.

Note:

• Basic knowledge of FTP servers is required to use this function.

• The explanations in this guide assume that your network or FTP server environment is ready to use.

• This camera can connect to an access point with WPA3-SAE or WPA2-PSK security settings, or without security settings. For a secure wireless LAN connection, it is strongly recommended to use an access point with WPA3 or WPA2 security settings. Connecting without security may result in hacking, malicious access, or other vulnerabilities.

How do I connect my SONY ILME-FX2B to a network using a wired LAN (USB-LAN)?

To connect your SONY ILME-FX2B to a network via a wired LAN, you will need the following commercially available items:

USB-LAN conversion adaptor (sold separately): Use a Type-C USB-LAN conversion adaptor. A gigabit ethernet adaptor is recommended.

LAN cable (sold separately): Use a Category 5e or higher Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) cable.

Router (sold separately)

Follow these steps to configure the connection:

1. Go to MENU → (Network) → [Wired LAN] and configure the connection settings.

LAN IP Address Setting: Select [Auto] to set the IP address automatically, or [Manual] to set it manually. If you select [Manual], you must enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS Server, and Second DNS Server according to your network environment.

Display Wired LAN Info.: This screen shows the MAC address and IP address for your camera.

2. Go to MENU → (Network) → [USB-LAN/Tethering] → [USB-LAN Connection].

• Restart the DHCP server.

When using a wired LAN: Restart the DHCP server on the network. (Contact the network administrator.)

When using Wi-Fi: Check that the DHCP server of the wireless LAN access point is enabled, or restart the access point. (Contact the network administrator.)

If the problem persists, try temporarily disabling the FTP function and then turning it back on again.

What should I do if my SONY ILME-FX2B could not create a directory on the FTP server?

If you see an error that a directory could not be created, check for the following issues:

Permissions: Write permission may not be granted by the FTP server’s settings. Contact the FTP server administrator to change the settings.

Invalid Characters: The specified folder name may contain characters that are not allowed by the operating system of the FTP server. Check the folder name entered in [Specify Directory] under [Directory Settings] on the camera and correct it.
