SHURE VN3-G (01) PDF SUMMARY:

How do you replace a stylus?

To replace a stylus, first make sure the stylus guard is down, then grasp the stylus grip between your thumb and forefinger. Gently pull the stylus forward out of the cartridge to remove it. To insert the new stylus, grasp the grip of the replacement stylus between your thumb and forefinger and insert it into the stylus socket. Press the stylus into the socket until the molded housing of the stylus touches the cartridge case. Be careful not to let your finger slip off the stylus grip, as this could damage the stylus tip or shank.

What precautions should you take when handling a stylus assembly?

The stylus assembly is delicate and has low mass components. Extra care should be taken to avoid bending or distorting the stylus assembly when it is installed, removed, or cleaned.

How should you clean a stylus?

Use a camel’s hair brush (No. 2 size or smaller), trimmed to approximately 6 mm (1/4 in.), dipped in alcohol or an alcohol-distilled water solution. Always brush the stylus from back to front, and never brush or wipe the stylus from front to back or side to side. Commercial cleaning solutions may cause stylus damage or corrosion.

What are some ways to preserve stylus life?

  • Follow turntable or tone arm instructions when adjusting antiskating force.
  • Do not handle the tone arm while it is in operation since this may cause the arm to sweep across the record.
  • If it is necessary to manually place the tone arm in the record groove while the turntable is rotating, release it as soon as the stylus engages the record groove.
  • Correct improper set-down adjustment or malfunction of the turntable changing mechanism to prevent the stylus from striking the edge of the turntable or record.
  • Do not stack more records than the turntable manufacturer recommends.
  • Take care to properly insert the stylus into the cartridge assembly and the cartridge and shell assembly into the tone arm receptacle.

How can you ensure that a replacement stylus is genuine?

Make sure that any replacement stylus you buy bears the following certification on the package: “This Stereo Dynetic® stylus is precision manufactured by Shure Brothers Incorporated.” Also, look for the name SHURE on the stylus grip.

What does the Shure Master Quality Control Program include?

The program includes stringent safeguards and standards to assure that your stylus is in perfect operating condition. Shure quality control covers incoming parts, intermediate subassemblies, and the finished product. Every Stylus-Magnet Assembly is tested and microscopically examined. Each finished stylus is also tested electrically, mechanically and acoustically against quality and tolerance specifications.

What is the warranty for Shure Stereo Dynetic Stylus?

Shure warrants to the owner of this product that it will be free, in normal use, of any defects in workmanship and materials for a period of one year from the date of purchase. The warranty does not include stylus wear.
