How should I mount the SHURE M75-6 in a Shure-SME Precision Pickup Arm?
To mount the M75 in the Shure-SME Precision Pickup Arm, Model 3009 and 3012, refer to the paragraphs on Cartridge Installation and Balancing in the instruction Manual supplied with the pickup arms.
What is the recommended operating procedure for the SHURE M75-6?
Recommended needle forces for optimum results are listed under “Specifications.” Forces greater than the indicated “maximum” should not be used.
How do I make a 4-lead stereo connection for the SHURE M75-6?
Connect the “hot” lead of the right channel to terminal “R” and the shield or ground lead of the right channel to terminal “RG.” Connect the “hot” lead of the left channel to terminal “L” and the shield or ground lead of the left channel to “LG.” To prevent “ground loops” and hum, no common connection should be used at the cartridge terminals.
The terminals are identified as follows:
L – LEFT CHANNEL TERMINAL
R – RIGHT CHANNEL TERMINAL
LG – LEFT CHANNEL GROUND TERMINAL
RG – RIGHT CHANNEL GROUND TERMINAL (GROUNDED TO CASE)
How do I set up a monaural connection with the SHURE M75-6?
For single channel reproduction of Monaural or Stereo recordings, connect the “hot” lead to both “R” and “L” terminals and connect the ground or shield lead to both ground terminals marked “RG” and “LG.”
Are there any precautions I should take when making connections to the SHURE M75-6 cartridge?
Do not make solder connections to cartridge terminals. Make all solder connections to terminal jacks provided before slipping them over the terminals.
How should I clean the stylus on my SHURE M75-6?
To clean the stylus, use a camel’s-hair brush (No. 2 size or smaller) dipped lightly in alcohol. The alcohol will remove any sludge deposits which may have coated the stylus tip. The brush bristles should be trimmed to a length no longer than ¼ inch. Always brush the stylus with a forward movement from the rear (terminal end of the cartridge) to the front. Never brush or wipe the stylus from front to back or side to side.
How do I replace the stylus on my SHURE M75-6?
1. Grasp the molded housing of the stylus between your thumb and forefinger.
2. Gently withdraw the stylus by pulling forward out of the cartridge.
3. Grasp the replacement stylus between your thumb and forefinger and insert it into the stylus socket.
4. Press the stylus into the socket until the molded housing of the stylus mates with the cartridge case. Care must be taken not to allow your finger to slip off the molded housing of the stylus, as this may result in damage to the stylus tip or shank.
Why is it important to use a genuine Shure replacement stylus for the SHURE M75-6?
The Dynetic stylus assembly used in these cartridges is the most critical component. To maintain the original performance standards of your cartridge, be certain that any replacement stylus you buy bears the certification: “This Stereo Dynetic stylus is precision manufactured by Shure Brothers, Inc.”
Avoid inferior imitations, as they will seriously degrade the performance of your cartridge. Laboratory tests of imitation styli have shown that they vary drastically in important performance characteristics such as compliance, tracking ability, and frequency response. In many cases, only a small percentage of imitation styli meet the Shure performance standards. If an imitation Dynetic Stylus is used, the performance of Shure Dynetic cartridges cannot be guaranteed to meet the published Shure specifications. Accept no substitute.
