The controls and ports on the SHARPER IMAGE SMP558A-4 are as follows:

To charge the battery of your SHARPER IMAGE SMP558A-4:

1. Connect the player to your computer using the included USB cable.

2. Charge the battery for 3-5 hours. Do not charge for more than 8 hours.

The SHARPER IMAGE SMP558A-4 supports Micro SD cards (not included) for up to 32GB of additional memory.

To insert the MicroSD card:

1. Insert the Micro SD card into the card slot with the metal contacts facing up towards the front of the player and gently push it in until it clicks. Do not apply excessive force.

To view files on the Micro SD card:

1. From the main menu, touch “browser”.

2. Select “Card Memory”.

To remove the MicroSD card:

1. Gently push the card in until it pops out.

To turn on the player:

Place the [ON/OFF] switch to the “ON” position, and press and HOLD the power button for 3 seconds until the LCD screen lights up.

To turn off the player:

Press and hold the power button until the LCD screen shuts off, or place the [ON/OFF] switch to the “OFF” position.

Note: If you power off the device directly with the [ON/OFF] switch, your last changes in the settings will be lost, and the player will not remember the last song played.

After turning on your SHARPER IMAGE SMP558A-4, the main menu appears.

• Touch an icon on the main menu to select it.

• To return to the main menu, press the Home button.

The Main Menu Options are:

• music: play songs

• video: play movies

• photos: view pictures

• record: record voice memos

• sd card: view or delete files on the sd card (if inserted)

• settings: change system settings

1. Find the music, picture, or video files on your computer.

2. Connect the SHARPER IMAGE SMP558A-4 to your computer and locate the drive named “MP3”.

3. Drag the files into the corresponding Music, Pictures, or Video folder on the player.

It is also possible to delete files on the player while it is connected to the computer. Select the file and press the delete key on your computer’s keyboard.

Before transferring video files to the player, you must convert them to the correct format using the provided software.

1. Insert the included CD into your computer’s CD drive.

2. The CD should open automatically. On the installer screen that appears, select “Video Converter”.

If the CD does not open automatically, go to “My Computer” to manually launch the installer screen.

On the music playback screen, you can use the following controls:

• Previous track: Tap the button. (Press and hold to rewind).

• Next track: Tap the button. (Press and hold to fast forward).

• Play/Pause: Tap the play/pause icon.

• Browser: Browse files on the player and/or micro SD card.

• Setting: Change music settings.

• View music track information: Tap the information icon.

• Return to the main menu: Tap the Home icon.

To browse music files: Select “Browser” while listening to music and select which list you would like to view from. You can also search for music files by selecting “Browser” and “Main Directory” from the music screen.

To delete music files: Open a music list, select the track you would like to delete, and press the Delete button.

To add tracks to a favorites list:

1. Select “setting” from the music playback screen.

2. Select “Add List”.

3. Select from one of five “favorites” playlists.

To play favorite tracks:

1. Select “Browser” from the music playback screen.

2. Select “Play List”.

3. Select from one of the five “favorites” playlists.

4. Select the track you would like to play.

To play a video, select “video” from the main menu. The video browser screen will appear. Select the video you wish to play by using the touch display.

The video controls are:

• Browse files on the player and/or micro SD card.

• Mark

• Play/Pause the video.

• Volume menu

• Exit to the main menu

• Previous video (press and hold to rewind).

• Next video (press and hold to fast forward).

To view photos, select “photos” from the main menu, and the photo browser screen will appear. Double tap an image to view it.

The photo viewing controls are:

• Switch between slideshow and normal view

• Browse files on the player and/or micro SD card.

• Adjust time between slideshow frames

• Previous photo

• Next photo

• Exit to main menu

To record voice memos, select “record” from the main menu.

• Press the square icon to start recording.

• To pause recording, press the square icon again.

• Press the play/pause icon to save the recorded file.

• Press the Memos icon to view and playback voice memos.

To view or delete files on the player or SD card, select “browser” from the main menu and select the folder you wish to browse using the touch display.

In the settings menu, you can customize various player settings such as power usage, language, display settings, and more.

To extend and optimize battery performance, adjust the “Backlight Time” and “Power off” options in the settings menu.

If the player cannot power on, the battery may be exhausted. Please recharge the battery.

If you are having trouble transferring files, try the following:

• Check if the driver is installed correctly in the computer by disconnecting and then reconnecting the player to the computer.

• Check the connection between the player and PC, and confirm the USB cable is properly connected.

• Update the player by selecting “music” from the main menu and then select “Update”.

If there is no sound from the headphones, check the following:

• Please ensure the volume is turned up.

• Ensure the headphones are properly connected.

• Check if the format of the music file is supported by the player.

If the device cannot record, check if there is enough memory and battery capacity.

Please ensure you have selected the correct language from the “Settings” menu.

Press the Lock/Unlock button on the bottom of the display to unlock the player.

Many digital cameras and image editing software add hidden data to the .jpg files. This data can prevent your MP3 from loading the images. Try to eliminate this data by saving the file with another name.
