Before removing the battery cover on your SAMSUNG GALAXY S4, it is important to ensure the device is switched off. To do this, press and hold the Power/End key until the power-off image appears, then tap ‘Power off’.

2. Locate the microSD card slot on the inside of the device.

3. Orient the card with the gold strips facing down.

When the battery level on your SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 is low (approximately 15% charge) and only a few minutes of talk time remain, a warning tone will sound and a “Battery low” message will appear on the display. The device will conserve power by dimming the backlight. When the battery level becomes too low, the device will automatically turn off.

You can also choose to display a percentage value for the battery charge. To do this, press the Menu key, tap Settings → My device tab → Display → Display battery percentage.

• Reduce your backlight on time.

• Deactivate GPS when not needed, as applications using this feature drain the battery.

• Do not wait until your battery is completely depleted before charging. Complete discharge and recharge cycles can reduce the storage capacity over time.

• Turn off Automatic application sync.

• Use the Power Saving feature to deactivate some hardware and interface functions.

• Check the Battery use screen to see which features are consuming battery resources.

• Check Running Services and close any unnecessary applications.

• Use the Task Manager to end or shut down background applications.

• Turn off streaming services after use.

• Change your Live Wallpaper to a non-animated wallpaper or gallery image.

When you turn on your SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 for the first time, you will be guided through a setup process:

1. Select a language. English is the default.

2. Tap Next.

3. At the Wi-Fi screen, you can activate Wi-Fi and connect to a network, or tap Next to continue.

11. Accept or rename the device name.

12. Tap Finish to complete the setup process.

13. Read the on-screen Collect diagnostics information and select More Info… or Close.

To turn the device on:

Press and hold the Power/End key until the device switches on. The device will search for your network, and then you can make or receive calls.

To turn the device off:

1. Press and hold the Power/End key until the Device options screen appears.

2. Tap ‘Power off’.

To restart your SAMSUNG GALAXY S4:

1. Press and hold the Power/End key until the Device options screen appears.

2. Tap ‘Restart’.

Your SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 automatically transfers unanswered calls to voicemail. To set it up for the first time:

1. From the Home screen, tap the Phone icon.

2. Touch and hold the ‘1’ key until the device dials voicemail. You may be prompted to enter a password.

3. Follow the audio tutorial to create a password, a greeting, and a display name.

Important: Always use a password to protect against unauthorized access.

You can access your voicemail on your SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 using the keypad:

To check Visual Voicemail messages:

3. Tap the Play icon.

To delete Visual Voicemail messages:

1. Access the Visual Voicemail application.

2. Tap the voicemail message you want to delete.

3. Tap the Delete icon → OK.

The Task Manager on your SAMSUNG GALAXY S4 lets you see and manage applications running on your device, including those in the background. To access it, press and hold the Home key and then tap the Task manager icon.

The Task Manager has the following tabs:

• Active applications: Displays currently active applications running on your phone.

• Downloaded: Shows installed applications from the Play Store. You can tap ‘Uninstall’ to remove them.

• RAM: Displays the amount of current RAM being used and allows you to ‘Clear Memory’.

• Storage: Shows a visual graph of available and used space in System storage and the external SD card.
