To set up your SAMSUNG GALAXY A23 5G, you need to install the SIM card and charge the battery.

Install SIM/microSD card:

Your device uses a nano-SIM card. Place the SIM card and optional microSD card (sold separately) into the tray with the gold contacts facing down.

Charge your device:

Before turning on your device, charge it fully using a Samsung-approved charger and cable. Wall charger is sold separately. To avoid injury or damage, do not use incompatible, worn, or damaged batteries, chargers, or cables.

You can customize the shortcut assigned to the Side key for a double press action.

1. From Settings, tap Advanced features > Side key.

2. Tap Double press to enable this feature, and tap an option:

• Quick launch camera (default)

• Open app

Add a Google Account:

Sign in to your Google Account to access Google Cloud Storage, apps, and Android features.

1. From Settings, tap Accounts and backup > Manage accounts.

2. Tap Add account > Google.

Add a Samsung account:

Sign in to your Samsung account to access exclusive Samsung content and apps.

• From Settings, tap Samsung account.

Add an Outlook account:

Sign in to your Outlook account to view and manage email messages.

1. From Settings, tap Accounts and backup > Manage accounts.

2. Tap Add account > Outlook.

You can set up your voicemail service when you access it for the first time. Options may vary by carrier.

1. From the Phone app, touch and hold the 1 key or tap the Voicemail icon.

2. Follow the tutorial to create a password, record a greeting, and record your name.

Your SAMSUNG GALAXY A23 5G responds best to a light touch from the pad of your finger or a capacitive stylus.

• Tap: Lightly touch an item to select or launch it. Double-tap an image to zoom in or out.

• Swipe: Lightly drag your finger across the screen to unlock the device, scroll through Home screens, or menu options.

• Drag and drop: Touch and hold an item, and then move it to a new location. For example, drag an app shortcut to a Home screen.

• Zoom in and out: Bring your thumb and forefinger together or apart on the screen to zoom in and out.

• Touch and hold: Touch and hold items to activate them, such as holding a text field to display a pop-up menu or holding a Home screen to customize it.

You can navigate your device using either traditional navigation buttons or full-screen swipe gestures.

To use Navigation buttons:

1. From Settings, tap Display > Navigation bar > Buttons.

2. Tap an option under Button order to choose which side of the screen the Back and Recent apps icons display.

To use Navigation gestures:

This option hides the navigation buttons for an unobstructed screen experience.

1. From Settings, tap Display > Navigation bar > Swipe gestures to enable the feature.

2. Tap an option to customize:

• More options: Choose a gesture type and sensitivity.

• Gesture hint: Display lines at the bottom of the screen where each screen gesture is located.

• Show button to hide keyboard: Show an icon to hide the keyboard when the device is in portrait mode.

You can customize the Home screen by changing wallpapers, themes, and icons, and by adding widgets.

Add/Remove App Icons:

• To add: From the Apps screen, touch and hold an app icon, and tap Add to Home.

• To remove: From a Home screen, touch and hold an app icon, and then tap Remove. This does not delete the app.

Change Wallpaper:

1. From a Home screen, touch and hold the screen, and then tap Wallpaper and style.

2. Choose from menus like My wallpapers, Gallery, and more to find and set your desired wallpaper.

3. Tap a picture or video, choose the screen(s) to apply it to, and tap Set on Home screen, Set on Lock screen, or both.

Apply Themes or Icons:

1. From a Home screen, touch and hold the screen.

2. Tap Themes. You can then browse and apply themes or new icon sets.

Add Widgets:

1. From a Home screen, touch and hold the screen.

2. Tap Widgets, and then tap a widget set to open it.

3. Swipe to the widget you want to add, and tap Add.

To customize a widget, touch and hold it on the Home screen and select an option like Remove, Settings, or App info.

To customize your Home and Apps screens, touch and hold a Home screen and tap Settings. Available options include:

• Home screen layout: Choose between separate Home and Apps screens, or a single Home screen for all apps.

• Home screen grid: Determine how icons are arranged on the Home screen.

• Apps screen grid: Determine how icons are arranged on the Apps screen.

• Folder grid: Determine how folders are arranged.

• Add media page to Home screen: Swipe right from the Home screen to show a media page.

• Show Apps screen button on Home screen: Add a button for easy access to the Apps screen.

• Lock Home screen layout: Prevent items from being moved or removed.

• Add new apps to Home screen: Automatically add newly-downloaded apps to the Home screen.

• Hide apps: Choose apps to hide from the Home and App screens.

• App icon badges: Show badges on apps with active notifications.

• Swipe down for notification panel: Open the notification panel by swiping down anywhere on the Home screen.

• Rotate to landscape mode: Automatically rotate the Home screen when the device orientation changes.

• About Home screen: View version information.

Easy mode provides a more straightforward visual experience with larger text and icons.

1. From Settings, tap Display > Easy mode.

2. Tap the toggle to enable this feature. The following options appear:

• Touch and hold delay: Set how long it takes for a continuous touch to be recognized as a touch and hold.

• High contrast keyboard: Choose a keyboard with high contrast colors.

Accessing the Notification Panel:

Swipe down from the top of any screen to display the Notification panel. Here you can view your notifications.

• To open an item, tap it.

• To clear a single notification, drag it left or right.

• To clear all notifications, tap Clear.

Accessing Quick Settings:

From the Notification panel, swipe down again from the top of the screen to display the full Quick settings panel. This provides quick access to device functions.

• Tap a quick setting icon to turn it on or off (e.g., Wi-Fi, Sound, Bluetooth).

• Touch and hold a quick setting icon to open its detailed settings menu.

Quick Settings Options:

Other options available in Quick settings include Finder search, Power off options, Open settings, Device control, Media output, and a Brightness slider.

From Settings, tap Digital Wellbeing and parental controls to access these features.

• Dashboard: View daily usage including screen time, notifications received, and times an app was opened.

• Your goals: Set screen time goals and daily app timers to limit how long you use each app.

• Ways to disconnect: Use Focus mode to limit app usage for set periods, and use Bedtime mode to change the screen to grayscale and mute calls at scheduled times.

• Comfort care: Monitor volume levels to keep your ears safe and monitor screen time while driving.

• Parental controls: Supervise your children’s digital life with Google’s Family Link app to choose apps, set content filters, and manage screen time.

To use biometric security, you must first set a pattern, PIN, or password.

Face Recognition:

1. From Settings, tap Biometrics and security > Face recognition.

2. Follow the prompts to register your face. Ensure you are in a well-lit area.

To manage settings, return to the Face recognition menu. Options include removing face data, adding an alternative appearance, and enabling faster recognition.

Fingerprint Scanner:

1. From Settings, tap Biometrics and security > Fingerprints.

2. Follow the prompts to register your fingerprint on the Side key/Fingerprint scanner.

To manage your fingerprints, return to the Fingerprints menu. You can add more fingerprints, rename or remove existing ones, and check if a fingerprint has been registered.

You can use multiple apps at the same time in a split-screen view.

1. From any screen, tap the Recents apps button.

2. Tap the app icon above the app window you want to use, and then tap Open in split screen view.

3. Tap another app from the lower window to add it to the split-screen view.

• You can drag the middle of the window border to adjust the window size.

• Tap the middle of the border for more options, like swapping the windows or adding the app pair to the Edge panel.

Edge panels provide quick access to apps, tasks, contacts, and more from the edge of the screen.

Enable Edge Panels:

From Settings, tap Display > Edge panels, and tap the toggle to enable the feature.

Use the Apps Panel:

1. From any screen, drag the Edge handle toward the center of the screen to open the panel.

2. Swipe until the Apps panel is displayed.

3. Tap an app or app pair to open it. To see all apps, tap the Options button > All apps.

Configure Edge Panels:

1. From Settings, tap Display > Edge panels > Panels.

2. Here you can enable or disable panels, edit individual panels, and reorder them.

Change Position and Style:

1. From Settings, tap Display > Edge panels > Handle.

2. You can change the position (Right or Left), color, transparency, size, and width of the Edge handle.

You can enter text using the on-screen keyboard or your voice.

Keyboard Toolbar:

From the Samsung keyboard, tap the Expand toolbar icon (…) for quick access to features like Emojis, Clipboard, Modes, Voice input, Translate, and more.

Configure the Samsung Keyboard:

From the Samsung keyboard, tap the Settings icon to customize options:

• Languages and types: Set the keyboard type and choose which languages are available. Swipe the Space bar to switch between them.

• Smart typing: Configure features like Predictive text, Suggest emojis, Auto replace, and Text shortcuts.

• Style and layout: Customize the Keyboard toolbar, High contrast keyboard, Theme, Mode, Size and transparency, and Layout.

Use Google Voice Typing:

Instead of typing, you can enter text by speaking.

1. From the Samsung keyboard, tap the Voice input icon.

2. Speak your text clearly.

Emergency mode helps you conserve your device’s power during an emergency by restricting app usage to essentials and turning off connectivity features when the screen is off.

Activate Emergency Mode:

1. Press and hold the Side and Volume down keys at the same time.

2. Tap Emergency mode.

3. Read and accept the terms and conditions (first time only), then tap Turn on.

Emergency Mode Features:

While in Emergency mode, you have access to features like Flashlight, Emergency alarm, Phone, Share my location, Internet, and Emergency call.

Turn off Emergency Mode:

Tap More options, and tap Turn off Emergency mode. The device will return to standard mode.

You can use the Camera app to capture high-quality pictures and videos. Quickly open the Camera app by pressing the Side key twice.

Taking Pictures:

1. Open the Camera app. In Photo mode, set up your shot.

2. Tap the screen where you want the camera to focus. A brightness scale will appear for adjustment.

3. To zoom, tap the 1x icon and select a zoom level.

4. Tap the Capture button to take the picture.

Recording Videos:

1. Open the Camera app and swipe to Video mode.

2. Tap the Record button to begin recording.

3. To take a picture while recording, tap the Capture icon.

4. To pause recording, tap Pause. Tap Resume to continue.

5. Tap the Stop button when you are finished.

Shooting Modes:

Swipe left or right on the camera screen to switch between modes like Portrait, Pro, Night, Panorama, and more.

The Gallery app stores all the visual media on your device.

View Pictures and Videos:

1. From Apps, tap Gallery.

2. Tap a picture or video to view it. Swipe left or right to see other items.

Edit Pictures:

1. While viewing a picture, tap Edit at the bottom of the screen.

2. Use the editing tools to Transform (rotate, crop), add Filters, adjust Tone (brightness, contrast), add Decorations, and more.

3. Tap Save when finished.

Share Pictures and Videos:

1. From the Gallery, tap More > Edit and select the items you want to share.

2. Tap Share, and then choose an app or connection to use for sharing.

Delete Pictures and Videos:

1. From the Gallery, tap More > Edit and select the items you want to delete.

2. Tap Delete, and confirm when prompted.

Take a Screenshot:

From any screen, press and release the Side and Volume down keys simultaneously. The screenshot will be saved to a Screenshots album in the Gallery app.

Screenshot Settings:

You can modify screenshot settings to better suit your needs.

1. From Settings, tap Advanced features > Screenshots.

2. From here you can customize the following:

• Show toolbar after capturing: Show additional options (like scroll capture and edit) in a toolbar after taking a screenshot.

• Delete after sharing from toolbar: Automatically delete screenshots after they are shared via the toolbar.

• Hide status and navigation bars: Do not display the status and navigation bars in screenshots.

• Format: Choose to save screenshots as JPG or PNG files.

You can manage apps by uninstalling, disabling, sorting, and organizing them into folders.

Access the Apps List:

From a Home screen, swipe the screen upward to access the Apps list.

Uninstall or Disable Apps:

From the Apps list, touch and hold an app, and tap Uninstall/Disable. Some preloaded apps can only be disabled, which hides them from the list.

Sort Apps:

From the Apps list, tap More options > Sort to choose between Custom order or Alphabetical order.

Create and Use Folders:

1. From the Apps list, touch and hold an app shortcut, and drag it on top of another app shortcut.

2. Release the shortcut to create a folder. You can then name the folder and change its color.

3. To delete a folder, touch and hold it and tap Delete folder.

The Phone app allows you to make and answer calls.

Make a Call:

• From the Phone app, enter a number on the keypad and tap the Call button.

• From the Recents tab, tap a contact and then tap Call.

• From the Contacts app, swipe your finger across a contact to the right to call them.

Answer a Call:

On the incoming call screen, drag the green Answer icon to the right.

Decline a Call:

On the incoming call screen, drag the red Decline icon to the left. This sends the call to voicemail.

Decline with a Message:

On the incoming call screen, drag Send message upward and select a pre-written text message response.

End a Call:

Tap the red End call icon when you are ready to end your call.

Manage Call Log:

The numbers of calls you have dialed, received, or missed are stored in the Call log.

• To view: From the Phone app, tap Recents.

• To save a contact from a recent call: Tap the call in the Recents list, and tap Add to contacts. Then choose to create a new contact or update an existing one.

• To delete call records: In Recents, touch and hold the call you want to delete, then tap Delete.

Block a Number:

Adding a number to your Block list sends future calls from that number directly to voicemail.

1. From the Phone app, tap Recents.

2. Tap the caller you want to add to the Block list, and then tap Details.

3. Tap Block, or More > Block contact and confirm when prompted.

You can assign a shortcut number to a contact for quick dialing.

Set up Speed Dial:

1. From the Phone app, tap Keypad > More options > Speed dial numbers.

2. Tap an unassigned number. Number 1 is reserved for Voicemail.

3. Type in a name or number, or tap Add from Contacts to assign a contact to the number.

Make a call with Speed Dial:

From the Phone app, touch and hold the assigned Speed dial number.

Remove a Speed Dial number:

1. Go to the Speed dial numbers screen.

2. Tap the Delete icon by the contact you want to remove.

Samsung Pay lets you make payments with your device almost anywhere you can swipe or tap your credit card. A Samsung account is required.

Set up Samsung Pay:

From the Samsung Pay app, tap Get started and follow the prompts to add your credit and debit cards.

Use Samsung Pay:

1. From any screen (Lock Screen, Home screen, or Screen off), swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Quick access.

2. Select a card to pay with and authorize the payment by scanning your fingerprint or entering your Samsung Pay PIN.

3. Hold your phone over the store’s card reader to complete the payment.

Make sure the NFC feature is enabled in Settings > Connections > NFC and contactless payments.

You can manage network connections in the Settings menu.

Wi-Fi:

1. From Settings, tap Connections > Wi-Fi, then tap the toggle to turn on Wi-Fi.

2. Tap a network from the list and enter a password if required.

3. Tap Connect.

Bluetooth:

1. From Settings, tap Connections > Bluetooth, and then tap the toggle to turn it on.

2. Tap a device from the list of available devices and follow the prompts to pair.

NFC and payment:

Near Field Communication (NFC) allows you to communicate with another device or make mobile payments.

• From Settings, tap Connections > NFC and contactless payments, and then tap the toggle to turn on this feature.

You can share your device’s internet connection with other devices.

Mobile Hotspot:

This creates a Wi-Fi network that other devices can connect to.

1. From Settings, tap Connections > Mobile hotspot and tethering > Mobile hotspot.

2. Tap the toggle to turn on Mobile hotspot.

3. On other devices, activate Wi-Fi and select your device’s Mobile hotspot network. Enter the password to connect.

Tethering:

1. From Settings, tap Connections > Mobile hotspot and tethering.

2. Tap an option:

• Bluetooth tethering: Share your connection using Bluetooth.

• USB tethering: Connect your device to a computer using a USB cable, and then tap this option.

• Ethernet tethering: Connect your device to a computer using an Ethernet adapter, and then tap this option.

You can control sounds and vibrations from the Settings menu.

1. From Settings, tap Sounds and vibration.

2. From here, you can adjust the following:

• Sound mode: Choose between Sound, Vibrate, or Mute.

• Vibrations: Customize the call and notification vibration patterns and intensity.

• Volume: Drag sliders to set the volume for ringtones, media, notifications, and system sounds.

• Ringtone: Choose from preset sounds or add your own audio file.

You can configure screen brightness, timeout, and other display settings.

1. From Settings, tap Display.

2. Customize the following options:

• Dark mode: Switch to a darker theme to be easier on your eyes at night.

• Screen brightness: Adjust the brightness manually or enable Adaptive brightness.

• Motion smoothness: Increase the screen’s refresh rate for smoother scrolling.

• Eye comfort shield: Reduce eye strain by limiting blue light. Can be scheduled.

• Font size and style: Change the font style and size.

• Screen zoom: Adjust the zoom level to make content easier to see.

• Screen timeout: Set the screen to turn off after a set amount of time.

Find My Mobile helps you protect your SAMSUNG GALAXY A23 5G from loss or theft by allowing you to lock, track, and remotely delete your data. A Samsung account and Google location services are required.

Turn on Find My Mobile:

1. From Settings, tap Biometrics and security > Find My Mobile.

Accessibility services are special features that make using the device easier for everyone. You can access them from Settings > Accessibility.

• TalkBack: Provides spoken feedback so you can use your device without looking at the screen.

• Visibility enhancements: Adjust colors, contrast, and font size for easier viewing. Options include High contrast themes, Color correction, and Magnification.

• Hearing enhancements: Configure features for users with hearing impairments, such as Sound notifications, Hearing aid support, and Live Caption.

• Interaction and dexterity: Assist users with limited dexterity through features like Universal switch and Assistant menu.

Dual Messenger allows you to use two separate accounts for the same app, such as a personal and work account for a messaging app.

1. From Settings, tap Advanced features > Dual Messenger.

2. Tap the toggle next to a supported app to enable the feature for that app. A second icon for the app will be installed.

3. To select which contacts have access to the secondary messenger app, tap Use separate contacts list.
