How do I operate the PRESTIGE MEDICAL 210047?
Follow these steps to operate the PRESTIGE MEDICAL 210047:
1. Connection: Attach the supplied cable to the rear of the unit and plug it into an EARTHED mains electrical socket of the correct voltage. The mains plug should always be easily accessible as it is the means of disconnection.
2. Water: Fill the unit to the water level line on the inside of the chamber with 0.75 litres of distilled or de-ionised water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER OR OVERFILL.
3. Loading (Media): Place media containers into the instrument basket and place it in the unit. When using the basket, always place the metal ‘V’ support in the bottom of the unit to ensure the load is not in the water.
4. Closing: Always place the lid on the autoclave with the Depressurization Valve (A) in the open position. Align the arrows on the lid and body (F1). With the interlock button (E) pressed down, turn the lid in a clockwise direction until it is completely closed (F2). Release the interlock button. Close the Depressurization Valve (A).
5. Power on: Switch the unit on at the mains. The Power on light (L1) will illuminate GREEN.
6. Temperature: The 121°C temperature is automatically selected when the power is turned on.
7. Starting: Press the cycle start button (B) to start the sterilizing cycle. Light L2 will illuminate ORANGE and may flash. As the temperature rises, air will be displaced by steam through the Air Bleed Device in the lid, which will close with an audible “click”. The sterilizing temperature is reached when Light L3 illuminates ORANGE and Light L2 flashes ORANGE.
8. Depressurizing: The cycle is complete when the internal buzzer sounds and Light L4 illuminates GREEN. Once sterilizing has finished, the unit should be left to automatically cool down without opening the pressure release valve.
9. Unlocking: Once the temperature has reached a safe level below 80°C, the interlock will release, and the lid can be unlocked. Remove the lid by pressing down on the interlock button (E) and turning the lid in an anti-clockwise direction, aligning the arrows (F1).
10. Unloading: Lift off the lid, gently place it upside down on a solid work surface, and leave it to cool. Ensure the Depressurization Valve (A) is in the closed position to avoid damage. The basket containing the sterilized media can now be lifted out of the unit with care. Allow 5 minutes for the lid to cool down before replacing it as per Step 4. DO NOT USE THE MEDIA IF A COMPLETE STERILIZATION CYCLE HAS NOT BEEN ACHIEVED.
What are the recommended “Do’s” for operating the PRESTIGE MEDICAL 210047?
1. Read the instructions and always follow the operating sequence.
2. Ensure the media will withstand the sterilizing temperatures, that bottles are not sealed and screw tops are loose. Do not overload the autoclave.
3. Maintain the water level regularly with clean distilled or de-ionised water only.
4. Place the unit in a “draft free” environment, positioned not less than 250mm from adjacent walls.
5. Only use the green sealing gasket (part no. 219500) and change it when it is visibly damaged, has shrunk, or at the end of its life.
6. Keep the lid securely closed when the unit is not in use to avoid accidental damage. Never leave it in the partially-closed position (F1).
7. Record the temperature and pressure readings for each completed cycle to ensure they remain constant. Check readings against the “Technical data” section.
What are the “Don’ts” for operating the PRESTIGE MEDICAL 210047?
1. Do not lose the operating instruction manual.
2. Do not add any chemicals whatsoever to the water.
3. Do not attempt to sterilize volatile substances, toxic materials, or inappropriate loads.
4. Do not place the unit on heat-sensitive surfaces like polished wood or glass.
5. Do not open the Depressurization Valve (A) during the sterilization cycle.
6. Do not leave the Depressurization Valve (A) in the “open” position when placing the lid upside down on a work surface.
7. Do not immerse the unit or electrical cord in water when cleaning.
8. Do not use abrasive materials or lubricants when cleaning.
9. Do not drop or abuse the unit.
10. Do not use in areas of risk associated with flammable materials or gases.
11. Do not attempt to change any fuses until the unit has been unplugged from the mains (this should only be done by a qualified person).
12. Do not reach over the unit when removing the cover, as this may cause burns from rising heat and steam.
13. Do not cover the lid or obstruct the steam venting area when manually depressurizing.
How should I perform care and maintenance on my PRESTIGE MEDICAL 210047?
Green Sealing Gasket Maintenance:
1. Remove the gasket from inside the lid and clean it with warm, soapy water.
2. Rinse thoroughly and shake dry. Do not wipe.
3. Replace the gasket in the lid by tucking it evenly under all lugs. It may appear slightly wrinkled until used.
4. Replace the gasket when it begins to show signs of leakage.
Autoclave Maintenance:
1. If a new gasket leaks, or a persistent leak develops, gently clean the sealing surface of both the lid and body with a “Scotchbrite” scrubbing pad, ensuring you do not remove any metal. Rinse both surfaces, but do not dry them.
2. Clean both the interior and exterior with warm soapy water, ensuring electrical parts are kept dry.
3. Monitor the first cycle of the day to check that the Air Bleed Device, located inside the lid, audibly “clicks” shut.
4. It is recommended that your unit is calibrated at six-monthly intervals.
5. If the lid becomes stiff, lubricate the underside of the body lugs with “vaseline”. DO NOT LUBRICATE THE GASKET.
What should I do if my PRESTIGE MEDICAL 210047 has no power?
This fault is indicated when the Power on light (L1) fails to illuminate.
1. Check for a defective socket.
2. Check for power to the socket.
3. Ensure the lead is connected to the electrical socket.
What should I do if the fault light (L5) on my PRESTIGE MEDICAL 210047 flashes RED?
A flashing RED L5 light indicates a low water or boil dry condition.
1. Allow the unit to cool before refilling to the correct level.
2. Disconnect from mains, then reconnect and repeat the cycle.
3. If the fault repeats with sufficient water, arrange for a service engineer to visit.
What should I do if my PRESTIGE MEDICAL 210047 fails to achieve sterilization?
This fault is indicated when the Sterilizing complete light (L4) fails to illuminate GREEN and there is no audible buzzer at the end of the cycle.
1. Disconnect from mains, then reconnect and repeat the cycle.
2. If the fault repeats, arrange for a service engineer to visit.
What should I do if my PRESTIGE MEDICAL 210047 is leaking steam or water from under the lid?
This can be caused by two issues:
i) Worn or dirty gasket:
Wash the gasket and sealing surfaces on the body and lid as described under “Care and Maintenance”. If the fault persists, replace with a new gasket.
ii) Incorrectly closed lid:
Ensure the unit is fully depressurised by opening the Depressurisation Valve (A). Remove the lid and re-fit it carefully. Disconnect from mains, reconnect, and repeat the cycle.
What should I do if there is excessive steam or water leaking from the Depressurisation Valve (A) of my PRESTIGE MEDICAL 210047?
This indicates the Depressurisation Valve (A) is in the “OPEN” position. Close the Depressurisation Valve (A).
What are the safety features of the PRESTIGE MEDICAL 210047?
The PRESTIGE MEDICAL 210047 includes several safety features:
1. Gasket Offset Device (GOD Spring): Located at the rear of the lid, this spring is designed to prevent pressure from building up if the lid has been incorrectly fitted. DO NOT TAMPER WITH THIS SAFETY DEVICE.
2. Cycle Timer Reset: If the temperature falls below the minimum required sterilizing temperature, the cycle timer will re-start from zero once the correct temperature has been restored.
3. Over-Pressure Activation: If an electrical or electronic failure causes a build-up of pressure in excess of normal operating pressure, one or all of the following will activate:
– i) The Depressurisation Valve (A) will loudly and rapidly “vent” steam.
– ii) The gasket will “extrude” through the slot in the rear of the lid, rapidly releasing excess pressure and steam.
– iii) A non-resettable thermal fuse located in the base of the unit will “melt’ at a pre-determined temperature, disconnecting the power.
If any of these devices activate, please observe the following steps:
a) Do not touch the unit.
b) Switch off at the wall socket and un-plug.
c) Allow temperature and pressure to drop before touching the unit or removing your instruments.
d) Do not attempt to re-start the unit.
e) Arrange for an immediate service.
