The MONESSEN AVFL42NIF-BU is designed for Natural Gas (NG) at elevations between 0 to 2000 feet.

If you smell gas while near the appliance, follow these safety steps immediately:

Do NOT try to light any appliance.

Do NOT touch any electrical switch.

Do NOT use any phone in your building.

Leave the building immediately.

Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone and follow the gas supplier’s instructions.

If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.

Do NOT install the MONESSEN AVFL42NIF-BU in a bedroom or bathroom. This appliance is an unvented gas-fired heater that uses air from the room in which it is installed, and provisions for adequate combustion and ventilation air must be provided.

A minimum of 3 feet of clear space is required in front of the MONESSEN AVFL42NIF-BU appliance. High temperatures can ignite combustible objects, so do not place candles, electronics, or other heat-sensitive objects on the mantel or hearth as the heat may damage them.

To prevent the MONESSEN AVFL42NIF-BU from operating unintentionally during summer months, vacations, or trips, you should:

Remove the batteries from all remote controls.

Turn off any wall controls.

Unplug the 6 volt adapter plug.

Early signs of carbon monoxide poisoning are similar to the flu and include headaches, dizziness, and nausea. If you experience these signs, obtain fresh air immediately and have the MONESSEN AVFL42NIF-BU serviced, as it may not be operating properly.

During the first use, the MONESSEN AVFL42NIF-BU should run for three to four hours continuously on high. This cures the materials used to manufacture the appliance. You should open windows for air circulation during this time, as the unit may release smoke and odors that could activate smoke detectors.

Follow these lighting instructions for the MONESSEN AVFL42NIF-BU:

1. This appliance automatically lights the burner; do not try to light it by hand.

2. Before lighting, smell all around the appliance area for gas, including near the floor as some gas is heavier than air.

3. Wait five minutes to clear out any gas. If you smell gas, stop and follow the emergency safety procedures.

4. To light the burner if using a wall switch: Turn the ON/OFF switch to ON.

5. To light the burner if using a remote or wall control: Press the ON or FLAME button.

6. To light the burner if using a thermostat: Set the temperature to the desired setting.

To shut down the gas supply to the appliance:

If equipped with a wall switch: Turn the ON/OFF switch to OFF.

If equipped with a remote or wall control: Press the OFF button.

If equipped with a thermostat: Set the temperature to the lowest setting.

The MONESSEN AVFL42NIF-BU includes a battery backup system for use during power outages:

1. Access the control cavity by lifting the barrier screen off the appliance. Remove logs, stone, or crushed glass media if necessary.

2. Remove the two screws securing the burner assembly, lift the assembly, and place the engine supports against the lower front space, sliding them into the slots at the bottom of the engine assembly.

3. Locate the battery tray and insert four AA cell batteries, ensuring correct polarity.

4. Turn the appliance on using the wall switch or the remote control.

Note: To preserve battery life, do not use the HI/LO flame or thermostat options during battery operation.

The IFT2-ECM has a three-position selector switch:

OFF Position: The appliance will not respond to commands. Use this position during installation, service, or fuel conversion. If the unit is running, switching to OFF will shut it down.

ON Position: The appliance will ignite and run continuously at the HIGH flame setting. It will not respond to remote controls or wall switches. It has a safety feature that shuts down the fireplace after 9 hours of continuous operation in this position.

REMOTE Position: This allows operation from the IntelliFire app or various remote controls. The unit will also automatically shut down after 9 hours of continuous operation without a command in this position.

If the standard controls fail to turn off the MONESSEN AVFL42NIF-BU, you can use these manual methods:

Unplug the appliance from the electrical source.

Locate the house circuit breaker for the appliance and turn it off.

Turn the reset switch, located on the front face of the unit (after removing the screen), to the OFF position.

The following maintenance schedule should be followed for the MONESSEN AVFL42NIF-BU:

Odor from appliance: This is common during the first several hours of operation due to manufacturing oils burning off. Odors can also be caused by dust or pet dander collecting on the burner. Have a technician clean the appliance before the start of each season.

Metallic noise: No action is necessary. This is caused by metal expansion and contraction as the unit heats up and cools down, similar to a furnace duct. It does not affect operation or longevity.
