If you smell gas, follow these safety instructions immediately:

Do not try to light any appliance.

Do not touch any electrical switch.

Do not use any phone in your building.

Leave the building immediately.

Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone and follow the gas supplier’s instructions.

If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.

Note: Input ratings are for elevations up to 2,000 feet. For elevations above 2,000 feet, input ratings should be reduced 4 percent for each 1,000 feet above sea level.

The appliance requires a clear space of 3 feet in front of the unit. Do not place combustible objects in this area, as high temperatures may start a fire. Avoid placing candles, electronics, and other heat-sensitive objects on the mantel or hearth as heat may damage these objects.

For the MONESSEN AVFL42NIF-RB, the following clearances are recommended for installing a TV above the fireplace:

Combustible Mantel (A Dimension): 14.00 inches minimum from the top of the firebox opening.

Non-Combustible Mantel (A Dimension): 14.00 inches minimum from the top of the firebox opening.

Minimum TV height above the mantel: 18 inches.

Minimum clearance from the front of the TV to the wall: 6 inches.

Minimum clearance from the side of the unit to the wall: 6 inches.

Note: Actual TV temperatures should be validated at the time of installation as air flow characteristics vary by home.

Before operating the appliance for the first time, have a qualified service technician perform the following:

Verify all shipping materials have been removed from inside and underneath the firebox.

Review the proper placement of crushed glass media.

Ensure that there are no gas leaks.

Ensure that the air deflection glass is seated in the proper position.

Step 1. This appliance is equipped with an intermittent pilot ignition (IPI) device which automatically lights the burner. Do not try to light the burner by hand.

Step 2. Wait five minutes to clear out any gas. If you smell gas, stop and follow the emergency safety procedures. If you do not smell gas, proceed to the next step.

Step 3. To light the burner:

If equipped with a wall switch: Turn the ON/OFF switch to ON.

If equipped with a remote or wall control: Press the ON or FLAME button.

If equipped with a thermostat: Set the temperature to the desired setting.

Step 4. If the appliance does not light after three tries, call your service technician or gas supplier.

Step 1. If equipped with a wall switch, turn the ON/OFF switch to OFF.

Step 2. If equipped with a remote or wall control, press the OFF button.

Step 3. If equipped with a thermostat, set the temperature to the lowest setting.

Step 4. A service technician should turn off the electric power to the control when performing service.

Step 1. The appliance should run three to four hours continuously on the high setting.

Step 2. Turn the appliance off and allow it to completely cool.

Step 3. This process cures the materials used to manufacture the appliance.

Note: Open windows for air circulation during this break-in period. Smoke detectors may activate and some people may be sensitive to the smoke and odors produced.

The appliance includes a battery backup system that allows it to operate during a power outage. To operate using battery power:

Step 1. Access the control cavity. Ensure the unit is off and cool. Lift the barrier screen off and remove any logs, stone, or crushed glass media as needed to remove the two screws securing the burner assembly. Lift the burner and use the engine supports against the lower front space.

Step 2. Locate the battery tray and insert four AA cell batteries. Ensure correct polarity to avoid module damage.

Step 3. Turn the appliance on using the wall switch or wireless remote. If using a remote, do not use the HI/LO flame or THERMOSTAT options to preserve battery life.

Note: Some functionality will be lost when using battery backup, including remote control (if receiver is not powered), lights, or other auxiliary functions that require 110-120 VAC power.

The Electronic Control Module (IFT2-ECM) has a three-position selector switch:

OFF Position: The appliance will not respond to any commands from remotes or the mobile app. The unit should be in this position during installation, service, or fuel conversion.

ON Position: The appliance will ignite and run continuously at the high flame setting. No adjustment in flame height is possible. The system will automatically shut down the fireplace after 9 hours of continuous operation in this position.

REMOTE Position: This allows the appliance to be operated from the IntelliFire app or remote controls. The switch must be in this position to pair the module with a remote.

If the remote or wall switch malfunctions, you can manually shut down the appliance by following these steps:

Unplug the appliance from the electrical source.

If you cannot unplug it, locate the house circuit breaker for the appliance and turn it off.

Turn the reset switch located in the front face to the OFF position.

Note: Use caution and wear gloves when accessing components, as surfaces are hot during operation and cool down.

Check the batteries to verify they are functional and installed correctly.

Ensure the remote control is not in Child Lock mode. If it is, disengage it.

Ensure buttons are being pressed firmly for one to two seconds to ensure transmission to the module.

When first operated, the appliance may release an odor for several hours. This is caused by the burning off of manufacturing oils or finishing materials used during installation. Odors can also come from dust, pet dander, or deodorizing room sprays that collect on the burner. To avoid these odors, have a qualified technician clean the appliance before the first use of each season.

The IFT2-ECM module uses a blinking RED/GREEN LED to indicate specific errors:

2 Red/1 Green: Pilot valve solenoid not detected or open pilot flame coil.

2 Red/2 Green: Ignition feedback signal error, spark coil failure, or low-impedance short.

3 Red/1 Green: Appliance safely disabled; pilot sparked for 90 seconds with no flame rectification.

4 Red/1 Green: 110VAC power is connected to the wall switch.

6 Red/1 Green: Error ODS (Oxygen Depletion Sensor). Reset by moving the selector switch to OFF for 3 seconds.

7 Red/1 Green: Error Power Vent.

8 Red/1 Green: ECM error.

The Artisan model has a variable burn rate controlled by the remote control. You can adjust the flame height by locating the flame option on the remote control and using the up or down adjustment buttons to reach the desired height.
