• When installing, relocating, or servicing, use only the specified refrigerant (R410A). Do not mix it with other refrigerants and do not allow air to remain in the lines. This can cause abnormally high pressure, leading to explosions and other hazards.

• The appliance must be installed in accordance with national wiring regulations.

• If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid a hazard.

• Always read the labels on the main unit carefully.

Please observe the following cautions for the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E:

• Do not use existing refrigerant piping when using R410A refrigerant.

• Use ester oil, ether oil, or alkylbenzene (small amount) as refrigerator oil to coat flares and flange connections with R410A refrigerant.

• Do not use the air conditioner where food, pets, plants, precision instruments, or artwork are kept.

• Do not use the air conditioner in special environments.

• Ground the unit properly.

• Install a leak molded case circuit breaker as required.

• Use power line cables of sufficient current carrying capacity and rating.

• Use only a molded case circuit breaker and fuse of the specified capacity.

• Do not touch switches with wet fingers.

• Do not touch the refrigerant pipes during and immediately after operation.

• Do not operate the air conditioner with panels and guards removed.

• Do not turn off the power immediately after stopping operation.

The MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E indoor unit is supplied with the following accessories:

To prepare the ceiling for the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E, follow these steps:

1. The indoor unit must be installed at least 2.4 m (94-1/2 inches) above the floor or grade level. This is for appliances not accessible to the general public.

2. Use the installation template and gauge to make an opening in the ceiling. The dimensions of the ceiling opening can be regulated within the range of 33-7/8 to 35-13/16 inches. Center the main unit against the opening.

3. Use M10 (3/8″) suspension bolts (to be procured at the field).

4. Install securely, ensuring no clearance between the ceiling panel and grille, and between the main unit and grille.

5. The space between the ceiling panel of the unit and the ceiling slab must be 10 to 15 mm (25/64 to 19/32 inch).

6. If installing the optional multi-functional casement, add 135 mm (5-5/16 inch) to the dimensions marked on the figure.

Refer to the following dimensions for your model:

The preparation of the suspension structure depends on the building construction. Consult with building constructors and interior decorators for details.

1. The ceiling must be kept completely horizontal, and its foundation (framework) must be reinforced to protect against vibration.

2. Cut and remove the ceiling foundation.

3. Reinforce the ends of the ceiling foundation where it has been cut and add foundation to secure the ends of the ceiling board.

4. For slanted ceilings, attach a pillar between the ceiling and grille to ensure the unit is installed horizontally.

For Wooden Structures:

• Use tie beams or second-floor beams as reinforcing members.

• Wooden beams for suspension must be sturdy. Their sides must be at least 60 mm (2-3/8 inch) if separated by not more than 900 mm (35-7/16 inch), and at least 90 mm (3-9/16 inch) if separated by as much as 1800 mm (70-7/8 inch).

• Suspension bolts should be ø10 (3/8″).

For Ferro-concrete Structures:

• Secure the suspension bolts using the method shown in the manual, or use steel or wooden hangers to install them.

Follow these steps to suspend the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E indoor unit:

1. In advance, set the parts onto the suspension bolts in the order of washers (with insulation), washers (without insulation), and nuts (double). Fit the washer with cushion so that the insulation faces downward.

2. Lift the unit to the proper height of the suspension bolts to insert the mounting plate between the washers and then fasten it securely.

3. If the main unit cannot be aligned with the mounting hole on the ceiling, you can adjust it using the slot provided on the mounting plate.

4. Ensure that the distance ‘A’ (from the bottom of the suspension bolt nut to the ceiling) is between 17-22 mm (11/16-7/8 inch). Failure to adhere to this range could result in damage.

Caution: Use the top half of the box as a protective cover to prevent dust or debris from entering the unit before installing the decorative cover or when applying ceiling materials.

To confirm the positioning and secure the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E:

• Use the gauge attached to the grille to ensure that the bottom of the main unit is properly aligned with the ceiling opening. This is crucial to prevent condensation and dripping from air leakage.

• Confirm that the main unit is horizontally level using a level or a vinyl tube filled with water.

• After checking the position, tighten the nuts of the suspension bolts securely to fasten the main unit.

• The installation template (top of the package) can be used as a protective sheet to prevent dust from entering the main unit if the grilles are left unattached for a while or if ceiling materials need to be lined after installation.

To connect the refrigerant pipes to your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E:

1. If using commercially available copper pipes, wrap both liquid and gas pipes with insulation materials that are heat-resistant to 100 °C (212 °F) or more, with a thickness of 12 mm (1/2 inch) or more.

2. Before tightening the flare nut, apply a thin layer of refrigerant oil to the pipe and joint seating surface.

3. Use two wrenches to tighten the piping connections.

4. Use the provided refrigerant piping insulation to insulate the indoor unit connections carefully.

5. After connecting, test the pipe connections for gas leakage with nitrogen gas.

6. Use the flared nut installed on this indoor unit. If you reconnect the pipes after detaching them, re-fabricate the flared part of the pipe.

Flare Cutting Dimensions:

Refrigerant Pipe Sizes & Flare Nut Tightening Torque:

Apply refrigerating machine oil over the entire flare seat surface.

To insulate the refrigerant pipes of your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E, follow these steps:

1. Wrap the enclosed large-sized pipe cover around the gas pipe, ensuring the end of the pipe cover touches the side of the unit.

2. Wrap the enclosed small-sized pipe cover around the liquid pipe, ensuring the end of the pipe cover touches the side of the unit.

3. Secure both ends of each pipe cover with the enclosed bands. Attach the bands 20 mm (25/32 inch) from the ends of the pipe cover.

For the drainage piping of the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E, follow these requirements:

• The indoor parts of the drain pipe should be wrapped with polyethylene foam insulation materials (specific gravity of 0.03, thickness of 9 mm, 11/32 inch or more).

• Use VP25 (O.D. ø32 mm, 1-1/4 inch PVC TUBE) for drain piping and provide a 1/100 or more downward slope.

• Connect the piping joints using a PVC type adhesive.

• Use the included drain hose to change the extraction direction.

• Ensure correct piping with a downward slope. Avoid raised sections or odor traps unless necessary. An air bleeder should be installed if the pipe is raised.

• For grouped piping, use a larger pipe size (e.g., O.D. ø38 mm, 1-1/2 inch PVC TUBE).

1. Connect the drain socket (supplied with the unit) to the drain port. Fix the tube using PVC adhesive, then secure it with a band.

2. Install a locally purchased drain pipe (PVC pipe, O.D. ø32 mm, 1-1/4 inch). Fix the pipe using PVC adhesive, then secure it with a band.

3. Check that the drain flows smoothly.

4. Insulate the drain port and socket with the supplied insulating material, then secure the material with a supplied band.

5. Insulate the tube and pipe (PVC pipe, O.D. ø32 mm, 1-1/4 inch).

Complete the electrical work before installing the grille. Follow these steps:

1. Loosen the two screws on the electrical wiring service panel for the power cable and turn the panel as shown in the diagram.

2. Loosen the single screw on the service panel for the remote controller and indoor-outdoor connection cable and turn the panel.

3. Loosen the two screws on the electrical box cover, then slide and remove it.

4. Route the cables into the indoor unit through their respective entries.

5. Connect the cables securely to the terminal boards. Leave enough slack for servicing.

6. Secure the power cable with its cable strap.

7. Secure the remote controller cable and indoor-outdoor connection cable with their cable strap.

8. Reinstall the removed parts in their original locations.

Terminal Board Screw Tightening Torque:

WARNING: Never connect to a 208 – 230 VAC power supply.

Electrical Work Precautions:

• Connect wires with the same diameter on both sides of each terminal board.

• Connecting two wires on one side is prohibited.

• Connecting three or more wires to the same terminal is prohibited.

• Connecting wires with different diameters is prohibited.

Power supply wiring must comply with applicable local and national codes. Follow these guidelines:

• Use copper supply wires.

• Use UL wires rated 300 V or more for power supply cords.

• Install a ground wire longer than other cables.

• A switch with at least 3 mm (1/8 inch) contact separation in each pole must be provided by the air conditioner installation.

Warning: Never splice the power cable or the indoor-outdoor connection cable, as it may result in smoke, fire, or communication failure.

*1 The Ground-fault interrupter should support an inverter circuit and be combined with a local switch or wiring breaker.

*2 Use the larger of F1 or F2 for the value of F0.

*3 Current sensitivity is calculated using a specific formula involving breaker coefficients and wire length.

The MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E requires different types of control cables for its various functions:

1. Wiring Transmission Cables:

• Type: Shielding wire, Use UL wire rated 300 V

• Cable diameter: More than 1.25 mm² (AWG16)

• Length: Less than 200 m, 219 yard

2. M-NET Remote Control Cables:

• Type: Shielding wire, Use UL wire rated 300 V

• Cable diameter: 0.5 (AWG20) to 1.25 mm² (AWG16)

• Length: Add any portion in excess of 10 m (33 ft) to within the longest allowable transmission cable length of 200 m (219 yard).

3. MA Remote Control Cables:

• Type: 2-core cable (unshielded), Use UL wire rated 300 V

• Cable diameter: 0.3 (AWG22) to 1.25 mm² (AWG16)

• Length: Less than 200 m, 219 yard

• Connect indoor unit terminal block TB5 and outdoor unit TB3 (non-polarized 2-wire). The “S” on TB5 is for a shielding wire connection.

• Install the remote controller following its manual. Use a 0.75 mm² (AWG18) core cable for distances up to 10 m (33 ft), and a 1.25 mm² junction cable for longer distances.

• MA Remote Controller: Connect “1” and “2” on indoor unit TB15 to the MA remote controller (non-polarized 2-wire). DC voltage should be 9 to 13 V between 1 and 2.

• M-NET Remote Controller: Connect “M1” and “M2” on indoor unit TB5 to the M-NET remote controller (non-polarized 2-wire). DC voltage should be 24 to 30 V between M1 and M2.

• Wireless Remote Controller: Connect the wireless signal receiver’s 9-pole cable to CN90 on the indoor controller board.

• For group control with a wireless remote, connect each TB15 with the same number.

Always operate with the main power turned OFF. Use the rotary switches on the address board to set addresses and branch numbers.

• To set addresses: There are two rotary switches, SW11 (for addresses 1-9) and SW12 (for addresses over 10). For example, for address “3”, leave SW12 at “0” and set SW11 to “3”.

• To set branch numbers (Series R2 only): Use SW14 to match the indoor unit’s refrigerant pipe with the BC controller’s end connection number. For other series, leave it at “0”.

The rotary switches are all set to “0” from the factory. Set them according to the system requirements at your site, referring to the Data Book.

The air flow rate and fan speed can be adjusted by setting the SW21 slide switch. Select a suitable setting from the tables below according to your installation location. Note: Incorrect settings may cause issues like poor cooling/heating.

To use the remote controller’s built-in sensor for room temperature sensing with your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E, set switch SW1-1 on the control board to “ON”. You can also use switches SW1-7 and SW1-8 to adjust the air flow when the heating thermometer is OFF.

Symbols: MCA: Min. Circuit Amps (= 1.25×FLA), FLA: Full Load Amps, IFM: Indoor Fan Motor, Output: Fan motor rated output.

You can fix a particular outlet to a specific direction. Once set, only that outlet will remain fixed every time the air conditioner is turned on. Other outlets will follow the general UP/DOWN air direction setting of the remote controller.

• The “Outlet No.” is indicated by the number of grooves on both ends of each air outlet. You can identify them by looking at the air outlet identification marks.

• “Up/Down air direction” refers to the angle you wish to fix, ranging from 1 (horizontal) to 5 (downward), plus a reset option.

• This is useful if direct airflow is causing discomfort; you can fix the airflow direction horizontally to avoid it.

The specific steps for setting this are performed through the remote controller’s “Manual vane angle” menu.

To set the manual vane angle using the wired remote controller:

1. The current vane setting will appear on the display.

2. Select the desired outlet(s) from “1”, “2”, “3”, “4”, or “1, 2, 3, 4, (all outlets)” using the [F1] or [F2] buttons.

3. Press the [F3] or [F4] button to cycle through the available settings: “No setting (reset)”, “Step 1”, “Step 2”, “Step 3”, “Step 4”, and “Step 5”. You can also select “Draft reduction” for a more horizontal airflow than “Step 1” to reduce a drafty feeling (can only be set for 1 vane).

4. Press the [SELECT/HOLD] button to save the settings. A screen will indicate that the setting information is being transmitted.

5. The screen will automatically return to the previous display once transmission is complete. You can then make settings for other outlets following the same procedure.

1. In the “Manual vane angle” screen, select the “M-NET address” for the unit you want to adjust using the [F2] or [F3] button.

2. Press the [F4] button to confirm the unit.

3. After about 15 seconds, check the air conditioner’s state:

• If the vane is pointing downward, it means this is the correct air conditioner displayed on the remote controller.

• If all outlets are closed, press the [RETURN] button and start again.

• If messages like “No communication” appear, the target device does not exist at that address. Press [RETURN] to go back.

4. To check the next unit, change the “M-NET address” to the next number and continue with the confirmation process.

The MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E grille offers 11 available discharge direction patterns. You can also adjust the air-flow and speed via the remote controller.

1. Decide on the discharge direction pattern:

• 4-directional: 1 pattern (initial setting).

• 3-directional: 4 patterns (one air outlet fully closed).

• 2-directional: 6 patterns (two air outlets fully closed).

2. Set the remote controller: Be sure to set the remote controller to the appropriate settings according to the number of air outlets and the ceiling height where the unit is installed.

Note: For 3-directional and 2-directional patterns, you must use the optional air outlet shutter plate.

Follow these steps to install the grille on your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E:

6.4.1. Preparations: Check that the two temporary hanging hooks on the grille are in the raised position.

6.4.2. Temporary Installation: Align the screw holes in the grille corners with the mounting holes in the main unit corners. Latch the two hooks on the grille onto the drain pan projections on the main unit to temporarily hang it.

6.4.3. Securing the Grille: Secure the grille by tightening the four screws. Ensure there are no gaps between the main unit and the panel, or the panel and the ceiling. If there are gaps, adjust the main unit’s height to close them.

Caution: When tightening the screw with the captive washer, use a tightening torque of 2.8-3.6 N·m (2.1-2.6 ft-lbs). Do not use an impact screwdriver. After tightening, confirm the two grille hooks are latched onto the main unit’s hooks.

6.4.4. Wire Connection:

1. Loosen the 2 screws on the main unit’s electrical box cover and open it.

2. Connect the 20-pole white connector for the grille’s vane motor to the CNV connector on the main unit’s controller board.

3. Place the remaining lead wire with the clamp in the electrical box.

4. Close the electrical box cover with the 2 screws.

The installation procedure for the 3D i-see Sensor corner panel depends on its position:

Standard Position:

1. Take the lead wires (CN4Z white, 4-pole and CN5Y white, 5-pole) of the 3D i-see Sensor corner panel from the side of the unit’s electrical box and connect them to the controller board connectors.

2. Fix the excess wire portions using the clamp in the electrical box, ensuring no slack.

3. Put the cover back on the electrical box with 2 screws.

Position (Alternate):

1. Take the lead wires from the side of the electrical box and connect them to the controller board.

2. Route the lead wires through the bell mouth hooks and fix the excess portions with the clamp in the electrical box, ensuring no slack.

3. Put the cover back on the electrical box with 3 screws.

For all positions:

• Make sure wires are not caught in the electrical box cover.

• The 3D i-see Sensor corner panel should be fixed onto the grille with its screw.

• This installation requires the adverse procedure of “6.2. Preparing to attach the grille” (i.e., removing the standard corner panel first).

Set the switches on the control board of each indoor unit according to the table below when the 3D i-see Sensor corner panel position is changed.

* Whenever changing functions after installation, be sure to record all settings in the “Check” column.

When reinstalling the corner panels, each of which has a safety wire attached, connect the other end of each safety wire to the grille as shown in the illustration. If the panels are not attached, they may fall off while the unit is operating.

Follow the procedure for removing the grille and corner panel in reverse order to reinstall them.

You can orient the intake grille so that the logo on the corner panel is consistent with other units, regardless of the grille’s orientation. The clips on the intake grille can be installed in any of 4 positions; the recommended configuration allows for maintenance of the electrical box without removing the intake grille.

Before starting a test run on your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E, perform the following checks after completing installation, wiring, and piping:

• Check for refrigerant leakage.

• Check for looseness in the power supply or control wiring.

• Check for wrong polarity.

• Check for any disconnection of 1 phase in the supply.

• Use a 500-volt megohmmeter to check that the resistance between the power supply terminals and ground is at least 1.0 MΩ.

Warning: Do not carry out this resistance test on the control wiring (low voltage circuit) terminals. Do not use the air conditioner if the insulation resistance is less than 1.0 MΩ.

1. Select “Service” from the Main menu, and press the [SELECT/HOLD] button.

2. A password window will appear. Enter the current 4-digit maintenance password (initial is “9999”). Move the cursor with the [F1] or [F2] button, set each number with the [F3] or [F4] button, and then press [SELECT/HOLD].

3. Select “Test run” with the [F1] or [F2] button, and press the [SELECT/HOLD] button.

4. Select “Test run” again with the [F1] or [F2] button, and press the [SELECT/HOLD] button to enter the Test run menu.

Once you are in “Test run” mode on the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E controller:

1. Press the [F1] button to cycle through the operation modes (“Cool” and “Heat”).

• In Cool mode, check for cold air blowing off.

• In Heat mode, check for warm air blowing off.

• Also check the operation of the outdoor unit’s fan.

2. To check the auto vane, press the [SELECT/HOLD] button to open the Vane setting screen.

3. Check the auto vane function using the [F1] and [F2] buttons.

4. Press the [RETURN] button to return to the “Test run operation” screen.

5. Press the [ON/OFF] button to end the test run.

To perform a test run on your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-EP-NEMU-E with the Simple MA remote controller:

1. Before starting, refer to the “Test Run” section of the indoor unit installation manual.

2. Press the [ON/OFF] button and the [TEMP. ▲] button simultaneously for 2 seconds or longer. This will start the test run.

3. The remote will display the indoor unit piping temperature and the remaining test run time (it starts at 2:00 and counts down). The test run will stop automatically after two hours.

4. To stop the test run manually, press the [ON/OFF] button.

5. If an error code is displayed or the unit does not operate properly, refer to the outdoor unit installation manual or other technical materials.

To check the drainage, ensure water is being properly drained and there are no leaks from joints. Use about 1000 cc (1/4 gal) of water for the test.

If electrical work is completed:

• Pour water through the outlet during a cooling operation and check for proper drainage.

If electrical work is not completed:

• Pour water during an emergency operation and check.

• To activate the drain pan and fan for the check, set the connecter (SWE) on the controller board in the electrical branch box to ON. This will activate them when single-phase 208/230V is turned on to L1 and L2 on the terminal block.

• Be sure to return the SWE connector to its former state after the work is complete.

Caution: Be careful not to spray water into the drain pump mechanism.
