• This air conditioner is not intended for use by children or infirm persons without supervision. Young children must be supervised to ensure they do not play with the air conditioner.

• If refrigerant gas leaks, stop the operation of the air conditioner, thoroughly ventilate the room, and contact your dealer.

• When installing, relocating, or servicing the air conditioner, use only the specified refrigerant (R410A) to charge the refrigerant lines. Do not mix it with any other refrigerant and do not allow air to remain in the lines. The use of any other refrigerant will cause mechanical failure or system malfunction.

Please follow these cautions to prevent damage to your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-P18NBMU-E2 unit:

• Do not use any sharp object to push the buttons on the remote controller, as this may cause damage.

• Never block or cover the indoor or outdoor unit’s intakes or outlets.

• Never wipe the remote controller with benzene, thinner, chemical rags, etc.

The icons on the Simple MA Remote Controller display provide information about the status of your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-P18NBMU-E2:

• (CENTRAL) icon: Appears when a local operation like ON/OFF, mode change, temperature setting, fan speed, or vane adjustment is prohibited by a central controller.

• CHECK icon: Appears when an error occurs. The power indicator will blink, and the unit address (three digits) and error code (four digits) will also blink. Stop the operation and consult your dealer.

• Energy-save icon: Appears when the unit is in an energy-saving mode.

• Lock icon: Appears when the Operation Lock setting is active.

• F icon: Appears when indoor unit functions are being set up.

• Power icon: Appears when the power is on.

• Fan speed icon: Shows the current fan speed setting.

• Vane icon: Shows the current vane direction setting.

To change the operation mode on your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CITY MULTI PLFY-P18NBMU-E2, press the MODE button on the remote controller. This will cycle through the available modes in the following order:

COOL → DRYING → FAN → AUTO → SETBACK → HEAT

Note that not all functions are available on all models of indoor units. Functions that are not available will not appear on the display.

AUTO (dual set point) mode: In this mode, you can set separate preset temperatures for cooling and heating. The unit will automatically switch between cooling and heating to maintain the room temperature based on these settings. The temperatures set in AUTO mode will also be used for the COOL/DRYING and HEAT modes.

SETBACK mode: This function automatically switches between cooling and heating to maintain the room temperature within a set range. The preset temperatures for cooling and heating in SETBACK mode can be set independently from the temperatures in other modes.

The method for setting the temperature depends on the operation mode:

In COOL, DRYING, HEAT, and AUTO (single set point) modes:

• Press the TEMP. ▲ button to increase the preset temperature.

• Press the TEMP. ▼ button to decrease the preset temperature.

In AUTO (dual set point) and SETBACK modes:

1. When you press the TEMP. ▲ or TEMP. ▼ button, the preset temperature display for both cooling and heating will blink.

2. While blinking, press TEMP. ▲ to increase both temperatures or TEMP. ▼ to decrease both temperatures.

3. To adjust cooling and heating temperatures individually, press the MODE button. The cooling preset temperature will blink. Use the TEMP. ▲/▼ buttons to adjust it.

4. Press the MODE button again. The heating preset temperature will blink. Use the TEMP. ▲/▼ buttons to adjust it.

5. Press the MODE button a final time to complete the setting.

If the temperature setting buttons are left untouched for a certain period, the setting process will automatically end.

For dual set point modes, the cooling preset temperature must be greater than the heating preset temperature, and the difference must be equal to or greater than the minimum temperature difference for your model.

Fan Speed Setting:

Press the FAN button to cycle through the available fan speeds. The settable speeds vary depending on your indoor unit model. If your unit does not have a fan setting function, the fan icon will blink when the FAN button is pressed, and the speed cannot be changed.

Vane Setting:

Press the VANE button to switch the vane directions. The available options are typically Setting 1, Setting 2, Setting 3, Setting 4, Setting 5, and Swing. The settable directions vary depending on your indoor unit model. If your unit has no vane function, the vane icon will blink when the VANE button is pressed, and the direction cannot be changed.

You can limit the adjustable temperature range for each operation mode by following these steps:

1. Press the ON/OFF button to stop the air conditioning unit.

2. Press and hold the FAN button for three seconds or longer. The temperature range restriction setting display will appear.

3. Press the MODE button to select the mode you want to restrict:

• B. Temperature range restriction for COOL/DRYING mode

• C. Temperature range restriction for HEAT mode

• D. Temperature range restriction for AUTO (single set point) mode

• A. No temperature range restriction (select this to cancel all restrictions)

4. Press the FAN button to switch between setting the upper limit (Hi) and the lower limit (Lo).

5. Press the TEMP. ▲ or TEMP. ▼ button to set the desired upper or lower limit value.

6. Press and hold the FAN button for three seconds or longer to complete and save the setting. The restrictions for all modes you have configured (B, C, and D) will be executed.

After the restriction is set, if a user tries to select a temperature outside of the allowed range, the preset temperature display will blink.

It is recommended to ask authorized personnel to clean the filter. Before you start cleaning, stop the operation and turn OFF the power supply.

Cleaning the filters:

• Clean the filters using a vacuum cleaner. If you do not have a vacuum cleaner, tap the filters against a solid object to knock off dirt and dust.

• If the filters are especially dirty, wash them in lukewarm water. Rinse off any detergent thoroughly and allow the filters to dry completely before putting them back into the unit.

Caution:

• Do not dry the filters in direct sunlight or with a heat source like an electric heater, as this may warp them.

• Do not wash the filters in hot water (above 50°C, 122°F), as this may warp them.

• Ensure the air filters are always installed. Operating the unit without filters can cause a malfunction.

To remove the filter from the PLFY-P-NBMU-E2 series indoor unit, follow these steps:

1. Pull the knob on the intake grille in the direction indicated by the arrow to open it.

2. Open the intake grille.

3. Release the knob on the center edge of the intake grille and pull the filter forward to remove it.

Caution: When removing the filter, take precautions to protect your eyes from dust. If you need to use a stool, be careful not to fall. Do not touch the metallic parts inside the indoor unit after the filter is removed to avoid injury.

If the unit is not heating or cooling effectively, check the following normal operating conditions:

• Clean the filter. A dirty or clogged filter reduces airflow.

• Check the temperature setting and adjust it if necessary.

• Make sure there is enough space around the outdoor unit and that the indoor unit’s air intake and outlet are not blocked.

• Check if a door or window has been left open.

This is normal operation. Warm air will not blow from the unit until the indoor unit has warmed up sufficiently to avoid blowing cold air into the room.

This is likely due to the unit performing a defrosting operation. When the outdoor temperature is low and humidity is high, frost can form on the outdoor unit. The unit will automatically perform a defrost cycle to remove the ice. Normal operation should resume after approximately 10 minutes.

The airflow direction may change automatically for the following reasons:

• During cooling mode: If a downward airflow is selected, the vanes will automatically move to a horizontal position after about one hour to prevent condensation from forming and dripping.

• During heating mode: The vanes will automatically move to a horizontal position if the airflow temperature is low or during a defrosting cycle.

These sounds are normal and can be heard when refrigerant is flowing through the air conditioner or when the refrigerant flow is changing direction within the system.

These sounds are normal and are caused by the expansion and contraction of plastic parts due to temperature changes. The parts may rub against each other, causing the sound.

This can happen because the indoor unit draws in air that contains odors from walls, carpeting, furniture, and clothing. The unit then circulates this air back into the room.

This can occur under a couple of normal conditions:

• If the indoor temperature and humidity are high, this may occur when the unit first starts operation.

• During a defrosting cycle, cool airflow may blow down and appear like a mist.

If an error code appears, it means the protection devices have operated to protect the air conditioner. Do not attempt to repair the equipment yourself. You should turn off the power switch immediately and consult your dealer. Be sure to provide the dealer with the model name and the information (error code) that appeared on the remote controller display.

Using the air conditioner outside of the specified ranges can result in serious failure. The recommended operating ranges are as follows:
