To use the Update Tool with your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AE-50E, your PC must meet the following requirements:

*1 Verified to work on the Pro edition

.NET Framework 4.8 is required. When installing the Update Tool, the page will jump to the download site if .NET Framework 4.8 or later is not installed.

Note: The use of the latest version of the OS is recommended.

When updating the software on your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AE-50E, please be aware of the following restrictions:

• AE-200 Update Tool is exclusively used for AE-200/AE-50/EW-50. Do not use this tool for other products.

• The AE-200/AE-50/EW-50 software cannot be downgraded to an earlier version.

• Up to 50 AE-200/AE-50/EW-50 controllers can be updated at the same time.

• The communication between the controller and the air conditioning units will stop while the software is being updated. The unit will continue its operation and be operable from local remote controllers, but an error sign may appear.

• While the software is being updated, up to 60-minute worth of energy management data and billing function data will not be recorded.

• When an AE-50/EW-50’s Pulse Input (PI) function is used, the pulse that is input while the software is being updated will not be counted.

• It is important to record the operation status of the air conditioning units immediately before updating. After the update, check the operation status and manually operate the units as necessary.

• Some operations like scheduled operations, billing, Peak Cut control, and energy management will be disabled during the update. Check the settings of these functions beforehand and update when it does not affect them.

• If the functions in the table below are used, avoid updating the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AE-50E software during the time period indicated.

Before installation, check that .NET Framework version 4.8 is installed. You can check the installed version by selecting the Windows Start menu and then choosing [Control Panel] > [Program and Features].

1. Double-click “AE-200 UpdateTool_V***.msi” that was downloaded.

2. If the “Security Warning” message appears, click [Run].

3. When the “Setup Wizard” screen appears, click [Next].

4. The “License Agreement” screen will appear. Read through, select [I Agree], and click [Next].

5. The “Select Installation Folder” screen will appear. Select the save destination folder and click [Next]. To allow all users who can log in the PC to have access to the Update Tool, check that the [Everyone] checkbox is selected and then click [Next].

6. When the “Confirm Installation” screen appears, click [Next].

7. The Update Tool will be installed.

8. Once installation is completed, click [Close].

Set the PC’s IP address so that settings data can be sent from the Update Tool to the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AE-50E. Set a network address in the same system as the IP address for the controller (Example: AE-200 IP address: 192.168.11.1; PC IP address: 192.168.11.150).

1. Open the control panel.

– Windows® 8.1: Start screen > [Desktop] > [My computer] > [Control panel]

– Windows® 10 or 11: Search for the control panel using the search box.

2. Click [Network and Sharing Center] > [Change adapter settings]. Double-click the [Ethernet] icon.

3. In the “Ethernet status” window, click [Properties].

4. Click [Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)] to select it, and click [Properties].

5. In the [Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties] window, check the radio button next to [Use the following IP address].

6. Enter the PC’s IP address (e.g., [192.168.11.150]) in “IP address”.

7. Enter the subnet mask [255.255.255.0] (unless otherwise specified) in “Subnet mask”.

8. In “Default gateway”, enter the gateway address as necessary.

9. Keep clicking [OK] or [Close] to close all windows.

Important: Consult the system administrator to decide the IP, subnet mask, and gateway addresses. Take a note of the IP, subnet mask, and gateway addresses before changing them.

The main screen of the Update Tool has several key areas with specific functions:

Note: Up to 50 centralized controllers can be updated at the same time.

There are two methods to input the IP addresses:

1. Inputting IP addresses directly:

Enter the IP address of the centralized controller to be updated in each “Destination IP address” column.

Important: Enter the IP address in one-byte characters in the format [XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX] (where XXX is an integer between 0 and 255). Do not enter any other characters, including tabs and spaces.

2. Loading IP addresses from a TXT file:

Step 1. Using a notepad or similar text editor, create a file of the IP address data of the centralized controllers. Each IP address should be on a new line.

Step 2. In the Update Tool, click [File] > [Open].

Step 3. A screen to select a file will appear. Select the TXT file you created and click [Open].

Step 4. The IP addresses from the file will be loaded and displayed in the “Destination IP address” column.

Note: Up to 50 IP addresses can be loaded. If only a line feed is inserted in the TXT file, it will appear as a blank line in the tool.

1. After inputting the IP addresses of your MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AE-50E controllers, click the [Acquire data] button.

2. The tool will communicate with each controller. Information including the model name, current software version, and serial number will appear in their respective columns, and the “Status” column will display “Data acquisition succeeded” for each successfully contacted controller.

Note: If “Data acquisition failed,” “Invalid IP address,” or “IP addresses overlap” appears, refer to the troubleshooting section.

Follow these steps to update the software:

1. Select the update file: Click the [Browse…] button next to the “AE-50/EW-50 update file” field. A screen to select a file will appear. Select the correct update file (e.g., “AE50_FW####_****.dat”) and click [Open]. The file path will be displayed in the text box.

2. Start the update: Click the [Update] button. The “Authentication information input” screen will appear.

3. Enter credentials: Enter the ID and password for initial settings for the first centralized controller listed. If the ID and password are the same for other controllers, check the checkbox next to [Same as No. 1] for those controllers.

4. Confirm and run: Click [OK] on the “Authentication information input” screen. The screen will close, and the update will start.

5. Monitor status: The update status for each MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AE-50E will appear in the “Status” column of the main screen.

Important: Do not click the close button [x] at the top right corner of the main screen, disconnect the LAN cable, or turn off the power to the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AE-50E during the update process.

The approximate time required for the update varies with the number of centralized controllers and the software versions. The following table shows estimated times:

1. In the Update Tool, click [File] > [Save].

2. A screen to select a file will appear. Specify any name in “File name”, and click [Save].

3. When the saving is completed, a window will appear with the message “The destination IP addresses have been saved.”

If you see a “File read failed. Check the data in the file.” error, it means the TXT file is not created according to the specified format. You should check if the TXT file is created according to the format specified in the section “When loading IP addresses from TXT file” and correct it.

This error indicates that a wrong file has been selected for the update. You should check if the name of the selected file is “AE50_FW####_****.dat” (where #### is the software version). Then, re-select the correct file.

This message can appear for two main reasons:

• The IP address of the centralized controller is different from the one entered in the main screen.

• The LAN connection with the centralized controller is not established.

To resolve this, first check if the IP address of the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AE-50E is correct and re-enter it if necessary. Second, check for a proper LAN connection between the PC with the Update Tool and the centralized controller.

• “Invalid IP address” means the IP address is not entered according to the specified format (XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX). Check the IP address and ensure it follows the correct format as detailed in the section “Inputting the IP addresses of centralized controllers”.

• “IP addresses overlap” means the same IP address has been entered more than once in the “Destination IP address” list. Check the IP address of the controller showing the error, find the duplicate entry, and correct it.

If you see an error when clicking [Update], it could be for several reasons:

• Data acquisition not complete: An error “Check that the data acquisition of all centralized controllers has succeeded.” means you have not successfully acquired data for all listed controllers. Check the “Status” column and click [Acquire data] again to complete it.

• Update file not selected: An error “AE-50/EW-50 update file is not selected.” indicates you have not chosen the update file. Click [Browse…] for AE-50/EW-50 and select the correct update file.

• Incorrect file version: An error stating “The version of the selected update file is older than the version of AE-50/EW-50.” means you are trying to downgrade the software, which is not allowed. Click [Browse…] and select a file whose version is newer than the currently installed version on the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AE-50E.

This error can occur for two reasons:

• The LAN connection with the centralized controller is cut off.

• The ID and password of the centralized controller entered in the authentication screen are wrong.

To fix this, check for a proper LAN connection between the PC and the MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC AE-50E that is showing the error. Also, re-enter the correct ID and password for the initial settings for that controller.

The “Update failed” status can be caused by the following:

• The LAN connection with the centralized controller was cut off during the update process.

• The centralized controller cannot be properly updated due to a communication failure or other issues.

To resolve this, first check for a proper LAN connection between the PC and the centralized controller. Then, click [Acquire data] on the main screen to check if the version of the controller has been updated. If it has not been updated, try the update again.
