The MIDEA MDF18A1ABB dishwasher is designed for operation on an adequately wired individual 120 V, 60 Hz, 15- or 20-amp fused electrical supply with copper wire only. It is recommended that a time-delay fuse or circuit breaker is used, and that a separate circuit serving only this appliance is provided. If an outlet is used, the outlet should be placed in an adjacent cabinet.

Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service representative if you are in doubt whether the appliance is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug if provided with the appliance. If the plug will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.

For a grounded, cord-connected appliance: This appliance must be grounded. In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding will reduce the risk of electric shock by providing a path of least resistance for electric current. If this appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug, the plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.

For a permanently connected appliance: This appliance must be connected to a grounded metal, permanent wiring system, or an equipment-grounding conductor must be run with the circuit conductors and connected to the equipment-grounding terminal or lead on the appliance.

Read all instructions before using the dishwasher.

Use the dishwasher only for its intended function.

Use only detergents or rinse/wetting agents recommended for use in a dishwasher and keep them out of the reach of children.

When loading items to be washed:

• Locate sharp items so that they are not likely to damage the door seal.
• Load sharp knives with the handles up to reduce the risk of cut-type injuries.

Do not wash plastic items unless they are marked “Dishwasher Safe” or the equivalent. For plastic items not so marked, check the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Items that are not dishwasher safe may melt and create a potential fire hazard.

Do not touch the heating element during or immediately after use.

Do not operate your dishwasher unless all enclosure panels are properly in place.

Do not tamper with controls.

Do not abuse, sit on, or stand on the dishwasher door, or dish racks.

To reduce the risk of injury, do not allow children to play in or on a dishwasher.

Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a hot-water system that has not been used for two weeks or more. HYDROGEN GAS IS EXPLOSIVE. If the hot-water system has not been used for such a period, before using the dishwasher turn on all hot-water faucets and let the water flow from each for several minutes. This will release any accumulated hydrogen gas. As the gas is flammable, do not smoke or use an open flame during this time.

Severe product damage and/or injury could result from the use of unqualified service technicians or non-original replacement parts. All repairs must be performed by a qualified service technician using only original equipment factory replacement parts.

Do not store or use combustible materials, gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance.

Keep young children and infants away from dishwasher when it is operating.

Do not use the dishwasher if it has a damaged power line or plug, and do not plug the dishwasher into a damaged outlet. Failure to observe these instructions may result in electrical shock.

This manual does not cover every possible condition or situation that may occur.

Remove the door to the washing compartment when removing an old dishwasher from service or discarding it.

Do not use dishwasher until completely installed.

Do not push down on open door.

Doing so can result in serious injury or cuts.

Before you throw away your old appliance, remove the door or lid so that children cannot hide or get trapped inside your old appliance.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or brain damage.

To avoid possible dishwasher damage, do not use harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, scouring pads (metal or plastic), or abrasive cloths/paper towels to clean your dishwasher’s exterior door panel.

Do not use benzene, wax, thinner, chlorine bleach, or alcohol as these materials may discolor the inner walls and cause stains.

Do not clean the dishwasher by sprinkling water over it and avoid letting water come into contact with any of the electrical parts.

Clean the interior of your dishwasher periodically to remove any dirt or food particles. Wipe the inside of the dishwasher and the inner part of the door with a wet dishcloth.

We recommend filling the detergent dispenser with dish detergent, and then running the dishwasher empty periodically using either the Normal or Express 60 cycle with the sanitize option. This will keep your dishwasher clean.

If white spots and odor are still present in your dishwasher, run the Normal cycle with the dishwasher empty and without detergent until it flushes. Then, interrupt the cycle and put an 8 ounce cup of white vinegar into the lower basket. Close the dishwasher and let the cycle finish.

Allow heating element to cool before cleaning the interior. Failure to do so can result in burns.

Do not remove the tub front seal (the long rubber seal enclosing the opening of the dishwasher).

1. Turn off the dishwasher.

2. Rotate the filter insert counterclockwise to unfasten and then detach the filter insert.

3. Remove the fine filter (flat, rectangular).

4. Remove any dirt or other remains from the filters, and then rinse them under running water.

5. Reassemble the filters in the reverse order of the disassembly, replace the filter insert, and rotate clockwise to the close arrow.

If the filter insert is not closed properly, its performance will be decreased.

If your dishwasher does not seem to be cleaning adequately or the spray arm nozzles seem clogged, the lower spray arm can be removed and cleaned. Remove spray arm carefully to avoid damage.

To remove the lower spray arm:

1. Check whether the nozzle holes are clogged by food particles.

2. If cleaning is needed, remove the spray arm by pulling it upwards.

3. Clean the nozzles, and then push the spray arm back into place.

4. Rotate the spray arm to check that it is properly in place.

If the dishwasher door is not closing properly or if water is leaking from the door during the cycle, check that door gasket is clear of debris.

If needed, clean the door gasket with a damp cloth to remove food particles and ensure a tight seal.

To add or remove items after wash cycle starts:

1. Open door slightly and wait a few seconds until wash action stops before completely opening.

2. Add the item.

3. Close the door firmly to latch and press START, then cycle will resume.

TO AVOID BURN INJURY: Slightly open door and wait until spray arms and wash action stop. Hot water may splash out of dishwasher. Failure to do so may result in injury.

1. Push the dispenser cover release catch to open the main wash detergent compartment.

2. Add the recommended amount of detergent to the detergent compartment.

3. Press down on the top of the cover to secure.

The flap is always open at the end of a dishwashing cycle.

1. Lift up the end tab of rinse aid cover to open.

2. Fill the rinse aid dispenser with liquid rinse aid until full. DO NOT overfill.

Use the viewing port when filling the rinse aid reservoir.

Do not fill the reservoir above the full level indicator. Excess rinse aid can overflow during the wash cycle.

3. Press the rinse aid cover down firmly to close.

Scrape away large pieces of food, bones, pits, toothpicks, etc. The continuously filtered wash system will remove the remaining food particles.

Loosen burned on foods before loading.

Empty liquids from glasses and cups.

Foods such as mustard, mayonnaise, vinegar, lemon juice and tomato based products may cause discoloration of stainless steel and plastics if allowed to sit for a long period of time.

Unless the dishwasher is to be operated at once it is best to rinse off these food soils.

If the dishwasher drains into a food disposer, be sure disposer is completely empty before starting dishwasher.

The upper basket has been designed for small plates, mugs, glasses, and plastic items marked “dishwasher safe”, etc.

For best results, place the bowls, cups, glasses with soiled surface facing down or toward the center.

Tilt slightly for better drainage.

Load small plates and bowls in two half rows, so the plate in front of it, and the open sides of the plates at the center of the dishwasher face each other.

When loading dishes, pull the upper basket out sufficiently so you can load it without striking the counter.

Make sure the loaded dishes do not interfere with the rotation of the spray arm located at the bottom of the upper basket. (Check this by rotating the spray arm by hand.)

The bottom basket is designed to load plates, soup bowls, plates, saucers and cookware.

The adjustable basket space will allow you to load items with a maximum height of 11 inches.

The fold-down tines in the bottom basket make it easy to load those extra large and hard-to-fit items. The tines may be left up for normal use or folded down for more flexible loading. Fold down for more space to load large pots or pans.

Load your plates into the dishwasher in two half rows, so that the front of each plate faces the back of the plate in front of it, and the open sides of the plates at the center of the dishwasher face each other.

Large items should be turned so that the inside faces downward.

Load large items such as pans and pots into the dishwasher so their open sides face downwards. We recommend loading cups, stemware, and small plates into the upper basket.

Larger items should be placed along the edge so they do not interfere with the spray arm rotation. Check to ensure that they do not prevent the detergent dispenser from opening.

The silverware basket can be divided into three separate modules that can be used in both upper and lower racks.

Load sharp items (knives, skewers, etc.) pointing down. Failure to do so may result in injury.

Make sure the loaded dishes do not interfere with the rotation of the spray arm located at the bottom of the upper basket. (Check this by rotating the spray arm by hand.)

The available options for the Heavy cycle are Heated Dry, High Temp, or Sanitize.

Cycle Time: 155 mins.

The available options for the Normal cycle are Heated Dry, High Temp, or Sanitize.

Water Usage: 2.5-4.9 gal. / 9.5-18.5L

Cycle Time: 125-145 mins.

The available options for the ECO cycle are Heated Dry, or Sanitize.

Water Usage: 4.1 gal. / 15.5 L

Cycle Time: 130 mins.

The available option for the Delicate cycle is Heated Dry.

Water Usage: 4.1 gal. / 15.5 L

Cycle Time: 105 mins.

The available options for the Quick cycle are Heated Dry, or Sanitize.

Water Usage: 3.3 gal. / 12.5 L

Cycle Time: 60 mins.

The available option for the Rinse cycle is Heated Dry.

Water Usage: 1.8 gal. / 6.7 L

Cycle Time: 20 mins.

The Heavy cycle is for pots, pans, casseroles and dinnerware with dried-on or baked on soil.

Normal cycle with only the Heated Dry option selected is recommend to completely wash and dry a full load of normally soiled dishes. The energy usage label is based on this cycle and option combination with the upper rack in the raised position.

It is suitable to clean normally soiled tableware and it is the most efficient program in terms of it’s combined energy and water consumption for that type of tableware.

Glass cycle is for lightly soiled loads, such as glasses, crystal and fine china.

Delicate cycle is for lightly soiled loads, such as glasses, crystal and fine china.

Use for pre-rinsing dishes or glasses. This is only a rinse that keeps food from drying on your dishes and reduces odor buildup in your dishwasher until you are ready to wash a full load.

Use to lock all controls and prevent children from accidently changing the dishwasher cycle or starting the dishwasher.

Press the button for 3 seconds to lock. After the function is selected the control lock icon will illuminate.

Press the button again for 3 seconds to unlock.

Options enhance the wash cycle. Some Options are available with only certain Wash Cycles. Refer to the “Cycles and Options Charts” to see which Options are available for the wash cycle you selected.

Press the button to select a option, corresponding indicator will be lit.

When the Heated Dry option is selected, the heater will work during the drying process. The Heated Dry process adds time to the wash cycle.

When the Hi Temp option is selected, the water temperature will be maintained at 136°F (58°C) maximum during the wash portion of the cycle.

When Sanitize is selected, the temperature of water will be maintained at 156.2°F (69°C) max. The max temperature may not be reached if the incoming water temperature is not correct. Certified residential dishwashers are not intended for licensed food establishments.

Close the door and press START. The pilot lamp “:” in the screen will blink when starting.

If you need to pause a dishwasher cycle in process:

IMPORTANT: Open the door slightly, and then wait for the spray arms and wash action to stop before opening the door completely. Doing this will help keep you from being splashed with hot water.

1. Open the door slightly and wait a few seconds until the wash action stops.

2. Open the door to add or remove items.

3. Close the door and then Press START to resume the wash cycle.

To cancel a cycle when the dishwasher is running, press and hold START for 3 seconds. The screen will display “–:–“.

This LED screen displays minutes remaining in a running cycle, hours of delay before the unit is set to start, error codes, etc.

If the machine is in operation, the remaining time (mins) of the selected cycle will be shown in the display window.

If the Delay option is selected, the number of hours of delay (1h-24h) will be shown in the display window. After the machine starts, the remaining time of the selected cycle will be shown in minutes on the display window.

NOTE: The remaining time could suddenly increase or drop several minutes. This means the Smart Sensor has checked the soil level and adjusted the number of fill cycles.

If an error occurs which is critical to the machines function and safe operation, the control shall shut down and indicate an error code in the display window. (See Error Codes)

If Error codes are displayed, contact the dealer or qualified service center. They will available to provide assistance in trouble shooting the problem and/or locate and authorized service technician if needed.

Warning Indicators:

• If the “*” indicator is lit, it means the dishwasher is low on dishwasher rinse aid and needs to be refilled.
• If the “” indicator is lit, it means the water faucet closed.

1. Check the filters for debris that may have been introduced from the packaging or during installation. See the “Clean Filters” section.

2. Add Rinse Aid. See “Rinse Aid.”

NOTE: To decrease cycle time and possibly improve performance, turn on the hot water faucet nearest to the dishwasher until the water runs hot. Turn off the water.

1. Load dishwasher. See “Dishwasher Loading.”

2. Add detergent. See “Filling the detergent dispenser.”

3. Select desired CYCLE and OPTIONS. See “Cycle and Option Charts.”

4. Close the door firmly to latch.

5. Press START.

6. Upon the completion of the cycle. The screen will display “END”.

It’s best to clean spills on the outside of your dishwasher as they occur.

Use a soft, damp cloth on the control panel to gently wipe away spills and dust.

If your dishwasher has a stainless steel door panel, you can clean it with a stainless steel cleaner for Home Appliances or a similar product using a clean, soft cloth.

Possible Causes:

• Dishwasher won’t start.
• Power supply or power line is not connected.
• Delay Start option has been selected.
• Child Lock activated. (selected models)

Solutions:

• Shut the door completely make sure it is latched.
• Check and connect the power supply.
• Refer to Delay Start section in this manual to reset.
• Deactivate the child lock, refer to Child lock section in this manual.

Possible Cause: The wash cycle will beep to indicate the end of the cycle.

Solution: This is a normal indication.

Possible Causes:

• The dishwasher is connected to cold water.
• The cycle time will vary due to the soil.
• The sanitize option is selected.

Solutions:

• Check the dishwasher, make sure it is properly connected to the hot water supply.
• When heavy soil is detected, the auto, normal, pots & pan cycle will automatically increase the cycle time.
• When sanitize option is selected, the cycle time will be increase to meet the sanitized temperature request.

Possible Causes:

• Water pressure is temporarily low.
• The inlet water temperature is low.
• Dishes are loaded too close together.
• Improper use of detergent.
• The selected cycle is not suitable for food soil condition.
• Spray arms is blocked by some items.

Solutions:

• Use you dishwasher when the water pressure is normal.
• Make sure the dishwasher is connected to the hot water supply. Try not use your dishwasher when hot water is being used elsewhere in the house.
• Load the dishes again as the manual.
• Add detergent depending on the water hardness and the cycle you chose. Use fresh detergent.
• Choose anther cycle for longer washing time.
• Make sure the spray arm is rotated freely.

Possible Causes:

• Rinse aid dispenser is empty.
• Improper loading of dishes.
• The cycle you chose did not included the drying.

Solutions:

• Fill rinse aid dispenser or increase the amount of rinse aid.
• Load the dishes again as the manual instructs.
• Choose the proper cycle with drying.

Possible Causes:

• Water hardness is too high.
• Improper loading of dishes.
• Old rinse aid is used.
• Rinse dispenser empty.

Solutions:

• For extremely hard water install a water softener.
• Load the dishes again as the manual indicates.
• Use fresh rinse aid.
• Add rinse aid to the dispenser.

Possible Causes:

• Using too much detergent.
• The inlet water temperature exceeds 158°F (70°C).

Solutions:

• Use less detergent if you have soft water.
• Lower the inlet water temperature.

Possible Causes:

• Large Dish/Pan blocking water from spray arm from washing out detergent cup.
• Improper operation of the detergent cover.

Solutions:

• Do not load large pans along the front of the rack, try to place them along the sides of the rack.
• Add the detergent and rinse aid as indicated by the manual.

Possible Cause: Improper operation of the detergent cover.

Solution: Add the detergent and rinse aid as indicated by the manual.

Possible Causes:

• Previous cycle has not finished or has been interrupted.
• Drain is clogged.
• Drain hose is kinked.

Solutions:

• Select the proper cycle explained in the manual.
• Check the air gap if you have one. Make sure the disposer is empty if the dishwasher is connected to the disposer
• Make sure the drain hose is properly connected to the sink.

Possible Causes:

• Previous cycle has not finished or has been interrupted.
• Drain is clogged.
• Drain hose is kinked.

Solutions:

• Select the proper cycle explained in the manual.
• Check the air gap if you have one. Make sure the disposer is empty if the dishwasher is connected to the disposer
• Make sure the drain hose is properly connected to the sink.

Possible Cause: Improper detergent is used.

Solution: Make sure to use only the automatic dishwasher detergent.

Possible Causes:

• Excessive suds caused by using the improper detergent.
• Dishwasher is not level.

Solutions:

• Make sure to use only the proper dishwasher detergent
• Level the dishwasher.

Possible Cause: Aluminum utensils have rubbed against dishes.

Solution: Use a mild abrasive cleaner to eliminate those marks.

Possible Causes:

• Coffee and tea soil.
• Reddish stain.

Solutions:

• Using an approved spot cleaner to remove the soil.
• Some tomato-based foods will cause this, use of the rinse only cycle right after loading this will decrease the staining.

Possible Causes:

• Detergent cup opening\ Drain pump sound.
• A hard object has entered the wash module. When the object is ground up, the sound should stop.

Solutions:

• This is normal.
• If the noise persists after a complete cycle, call for service.

Possible Causes:

• Water valve is turn off
• Door latch may not be properly seated

Solutions:

• Check if the water valve is turn on
• Make sure the door is closed

Meaning: Not enough water flow in allotted time.

Cause: Confirm water is turned on to the dishwasher. Verify water pressure. NOTE: Water supply must maintain water pressure between 20 and 80 psi for sufficient flow.

Meaning: Overflow or leak sensor activated.

Cause: First, turn off water to the dishwasher. Check filter system for blockage. IMPORTANT: Watch for broken glass in the filter. If there is no water in the tub, contact Customer Service.

The water supply temperature should be 120°F to 150°F (49°C to 66°C).

The water supply must maintain water pressure between 20 and 80 psi for sufficient flow.

The capacity is 8 place settings.

The dimensions are 17.6 x 22.6 x 32.4 inches (W x D x H) or 450 x 575 x 825 mm (W x D x H).

Press the POWER button for 3 seconds to turn on or turn off the dishwasher.

The Delay time feature allows you to program the dishwasher to began the selected wash cycle 1 to 24 hours later.

Press the “Delay -/+” control repeatedly to toggle from 1 to 24H.

Check the dishwasher, make sure it is properly connected to the hot water supply.

When sanitize option is selected, the cycle time will be increase to meet the sanitized temperature request.

Add the detergent and rinse aid as indicated by the manual, and select the proper cycle explained in the manual.

Protect your dishwasher from the elements. Protect against freezing to avoid possible damage to the fill valve. Damage caused by freezing is not covered by the warranty.

Not for outdoor use.

DO NOT use powdered rinse aid in the rinse aid dispenser.

• Some tomato-based foods will cause this, use of the rinse only cycle right after loading this will decrease the staining.

• Detergent cup opening\ Drain pump sound.
• A hard object has entered the wash module. When the object is ground up, the sound should stop.

• This is normal.
• If the noise persists after a complete cycle, call for service.

• Water valve is turn off
• Door latch may not be properly seated

Solutions:

• Check if the water valve is turn on
• Make sure the door is closed

Meaning: Not enough water flow in allotted time.

Cause: Confirm water is turned on to the dishwasher. Verify water pressure. NOTE: Water supply must maintain water pressure between 20 and 80 psi for sufficient flow.

Meaning: Overflow or leak sensor activated.

Cause: First, turn off water to the dishwasher. Check filter system for blockage. IMPORTANT: Watch for broken glass in the filter. If there is no water in the tub, contact Customer Service.

It’s best to clean spills on the outside of your dishwasher as they occur. Use a soft, damp cloth on the control panel to gently wipe away spills and dust.

Do not use benzene, wax, thinner, chlorine bleach, or alcohol. These materials may discolor the inner walls and cause stains. Do not clean the dishwasher by sprinkling water over it and avoid letting water come into contact with any of the electrical parts.

If your dishwasher has a stainless steel door panel, you can clean it with a stainless steel cleaner for Home Appliances or a similar product using a clean, soft cloth.

• Load the dishes again as the manual.
• Add detergent depending on the water hardness and the cycle you chose. Use fresh detergent.
• Choose anther cycle for longer washing time.
• Make sure the spray arm is rotated freely.
