Follow these steps to set up your MAGIC CHEF MCSTCW20S5 portable washer:

1. Remove the packing box, foam, and bottom cardboard piece.

2. Open the washer door and remove all the accessories from the drum.

3. DO NOT use the washer on the foam packaging base.

4. Carefully lay the machine down.

5. Slide the noise proof plate (bottom cover) into place over the opening in the bottom and attach it with the mounting screw.

6. The washer should be installed on a stable surface close enough to the water supply, drain, and electrical outlet to ensure that the hoses and power cord reach.

To move the empty washer, carefully tip it back about 60°-70° until the casters on the rear of the unit can roll on the floor. Do not try to move the washer when it has clothes or water in it, and have someone assist you if needed.

Install your MAGIC CHEF MCSTCW20S5 on a level and solid floor that can support its weight. Do not install it on carpet. The location should be where it will not be exposed to temperatures below freezing or to outdoor weather conditions. Position the appliance so that the power plug, water inlets, and drain are all easily accessible.

The washer must be leveled before use. You can check if it’s level by observing the tub’s position or using a bubble level.

1. Slide the washer into its final position.

2. Open the lid of the washer and pour water into the tub until it is just below the pulsator level.

3. If the washer is level, the pulsator will be positioned in the center of the washer. If it is not, level your washer by turning the two front leveling feet clockwise or counterclockwise as needed.

To correctly fill your washer, a water pressure of 14-70 p.s.i. is required, and the faucet must be within 4 feet of the water inlets.

1. Connect the ends of the water supply hoses to the HOT and COLD faucets. If you are using a single-faucet kitchen sink, you may use the included Quick Connection Adaptor for the cold water faucet.

2. Tighten the fittings by hand until they are snug, then tighten them an additional two-thirds of a turn with a wrench. Do not over-tighten or use tape/sealant, as this can damage the fittings.

3. Run water through the hoses for 10-15 seconds into a bucket or sink to clear any foreign substances.

4. Connect the other ends of the water supply hoses to the water supply intake connections on the back of the washer. The hose from the HOT faucet must connect to the hot water supply intake, and the hose from the COLD faucet must connect to the cold water supply intake.

5. Tighten these fittings by hand and then an additional two-thirds of a turn with a wrench. Turn on the water and check for leaks.

Note: To ensure correct water usage, connect both HOT and COLD water faucets. If you only connect one, an error code can occur. If you do not want to use the HOT water supply hose, install the water intake cap into the HOT water supply intake hole and select Cold water as the wash temperature.

The Quick Connection Adaptor is for connecting to a single faucet, like a kitchen sink. It consists of two parts: a faucet fitting and a hose fitting.

1. Pull back on the white ring to separate the faucet fitting from the hose fitting.

2. Screw the end of the cold water hose onto the base of the hose fitting.

3. For a faucet with internal screw threads: Unscrew the aerator from the faucet tip. Screw the faucet fitting into the faucet, ensuring the black rubber gasket is on top of the adaptor.

4. For a faucet with external screw threads: Remove the gasket from the top of the faucet fitting and screw the fitting over the external threads.

5. Pull back on the white ring to connect the two parts of the adaptor back together.

The drain hose can be positioned in one of three ways. The recommended height is 35 inches, and it should be no higher than 39 inches. The washer should be located within 5 feet of the drain.

a. Over the edge of a sink: Secure the guide to the side of the basin wall with a hook or to the tap with a string or zip tie to prevent the hose from moving.

b. In a standpipe: The standpipe must be between 32 inches and 39 inches tall. The pipe’s diameter must be large enough to accept the drain hose easily.

c. In a laundry tub: The laundry tub must be between 32 inches and 39 inches tall.

Note: The connection between the drain hose and the sink, pipe, or tub should not be airtight.

1. Plug in the washer.

2. Load about 5 lbs. of laundry.

3. Press the “Power” button to turn on the washer.

4. Select the “Rinse & Spin” cycle by pressing the “Function” button until the indicator lights for “Rinse” and “Spin” are on. Then press the “Start/Pause” button.

5. The washer should not rock or vibrate excessively and should drain well. If you see leaks, check the water connections. If it rocks or vibrates excessively, re-level the washer.

a. ON/OFF: Press once to turn the power ON. Press again to turn OFF.

b. START/PAUSE: Press to start the wash cycle. Press during operation to pause the cycle. Press again to continue.

c. Digital Display: Shows the estimated minutes remaining in the cycle. For a delayed start, it counts down the hours until the cycle begins.

d. Function: Selects the cycle steps (Soak, Wash, Rinse, Spin). The light indicates which step is selected.

e. Delay: Sets a delayed start time for the washer.

f. Load Size: Sets the washing load size (Small, Medium, Large), which determines the water level.

g. Temperature: Selects the water temperature. Cold light for Cold, Hot light for Hot, and both lights for Warm.

h. Program: Selects the desired wash program (Normal, Heavy, Delicate, Quick, Bulky, Spin Only).

i. Extra Rinse: Adds an additional rinse cycle.

j. Control Lock: Locks the control panel to prevent accidental changes.

1. TURN ON THE WASHER: Press the “ON/OFF” button.

2. LOAD THE WASHER: Sort laundry and place it in the washer. Do not load the tub more than 3/4 full. Remove all items from pockets and zip up zippers.

3. ADD DETERGENT: This washer is for high efficiency (HE) detergent. Pull out the detergent compartment and add the recommended amount (typically 1/4 to 1/2 of the manufacturer’s maximum). Never use more than the maximum amount recommended.

4. SELECT WASH CYCLE: Press the “Program” button to select the desired program (e.g., Normal, Heavy, etc.). The indicator light will be lit or flashing to show the selected program.

5. SELECT LOAD SIZE: Press the “Load Size” button to select Large, Medium, or Small.

6. SELECT FUNCTIONS: Press the “Function” button to choose the steps (Soak, Wash, Rinse, Spin). The default includes all steps.

7. SELECT WATER TEMPERATURE: Press the “Water Temperature” button to select Hot, Warm, or Cold.

8. START THE CYCLE: Press the “Start/Pause” button. The estimated time will show on the digital display and count down.

The Delay Start function allows you to delay the start of the wash cycle from 1 to 24 hours.

1. Press the ON/OFF button to turn the washer ON.

2. Properly hang the drain hose and turn on the water tap.

3. Load the laundry and detergent in the washer.

4. Select the appropriate water level.

5. Select the desired program and functions.

6. Press the “Delay” button to set the number of hours (in 1-hour increments from 1-24) to delay the start.

7. Close the lid and press the “Start/Pause” button.

Once activated, the Delay indicator light will flash. To cancel the Delay setting, press the ON/OFF button. If you wish to cancel after it has started, power the unit off and reset all functions.

PAUSE: Push the “Start/Pause” button during a cycle to temporarily stop it. This allows you to add more clothing. Push it again to restart. Wait for the tub to stop moving completely before opening the lid.

EXTRA RINSE: Press the “Extra Rinse” button if you want an additional rinse cycle. This should be done after selecting the wash program but before pressing “Start/Pause”.

CONTROL LOCK: Press and hold the “Temp.” and “Program” buttons simultaneously to activate this function. The display will show “CL”. When Control Lock is activated, no buttons will function except for the POWER button and the ability to deactivate the lock by pressing and holding the “Temp.” and “Program” buttons again. This feature is useful to prevent children from changing the washer’s settings.

In the event of a power loss, the washer will automatically resume operation from its previous settings when power is restored.

NOTES:

“Normal” program is the most suitable program for washing soiled cotton or linen clothes and is the most efficient in terms of combined energy and water consumption.

The Normal cycle on Large load size and cold water has a much longer spin time (34 minutes), which removes more water from clothes, providing energy savings when drying.

Hot and warm water temperatures are the same when using the Normal program. If you need a higher temperature wash, use a different program.

CLEANING THE EXTERIOR:

Use a soft cloth to wipe off any water and dirt residue from the surface of the washing machine after every use. Do not use detergents, propellants, or other chemicals, and do not spray the washer with water, to avoid damage to the finish and plastic parts.

CLEANING THE INTERIOR:

Clean the interior periodically to remove dirt, soil, odor, mold, mildew, or bacterial residue. To clean the tub, run the Quick cycle with some bleach once every month. This helps remove mold. For hard water deposits, use cleaners labeled “Washer safe”.

1. LINT FILTER: This built-in filter collects lint during the wash cycle. It is suggested to clean it every 10 cycles or as needed. To clean, remove the filter from inside the washer tub, clean it with water, and then place it back into the washer.

2. PUMP FILTER: This filter helps protect the pump. It is suggested to clean it every 10 cycles or as needed. To clean it, remove the filter from the bottom rear of the washer, clean it with water, and then place it back into the washer.

E1: It has taken over 30 minutes to fill with water but the preset water level has not been reached. Check for issues under “Washer Not Filling Properly” and for water leakage.

E2: It has taken over 10 minutes to drain water but the washer is not empty. Check for issues under “Washer Will Not Drain Water”.

E3: The top lid is open. Close the lid.

E4: The washer is unbalanced. Redistribute the load.

Other: For any other error, turn off the washer, unplug it, then plug it back in and restart.

A thumping sound can be caused by heavy wash loads, which is normal. If the sound continues, the washer load may be out of balance. Pause the cycle and redistribute the load to solve the issue.

Vibrating noise can be caused by several factors:

Packaging materials were not removed: Make sure all packing materials have been removed.

Uneven load: Pause the cycle and redistribute the items in the tub.

Not level: Check that all leveling feet are resting firmly on the floor. See “Leveling the Washer” in the installation instructions.

Floor is not rigid: Ensure the floor is solid and does not flex.

This is likely due to using too much or the incorrect type of detergent. The MAGIC CHEF MCSTCW20S5 is a high-efficiency washer and requires HE detergents, which are formulated to reduce suds. Only use detergent with the High-Efficiency (HE) logo.

Loose hose connections: Check the water inlet hose connections at the faucet and the washer. Check hoses for leaks, cracks, and splits, and tighten connections if necessary.

Clogged house drain pipes: Check for water backing up out of the drain pipe during the drain cycle. If this occurs, check for proper drain hose installation and restrictions. You may need to contact a plumber.

Drain hose has come out: The drain hose may have come out of the drain or is not inserted far enough. Secure it to prevent it from coming out. For smaller pipes, insert the hose as far as the flange. For larger pipes, insert it 1-2 inches past the flange.

Large item above tub edge: A large item in the washer might be above the top of the tub. Pause the cycle and check the load to ensure nothing is above the top edge of the tub.

Detergent producing too many suds: Using non-HE detergent or too much detergent can cause leaks. Use only HE detergent and reduce the amount for smaller or lightly soiled loads, or if you have soft water.

This is likely caused by foreign objects, such as keys or coins, in the tub or pump. Stop the washer, and check the tub and drain filter for any objects. Make sure the washer is completely drained before removing the drain filter.

Washer not unloaded promptly: Always remove items from the washer as soon as the cycle is complete.

Washer overloaded: While the washer can be fully loaded, the tub should not be packed so tightly that the lid cannot close easily.

Hot and cold water inlet hoses are reversed: A hot water rinse can set wrinkles. Check that the inlet hose connections are correct.

This is normal. The washer automatically adjusts the wash time based on the amount of laundry, water pressure, and other operating conditions to provide optimal results. The time remaining shown on the display is an estimate, and the actual time may vary.

A musty odor can be caused by using incorrect or too much detergent, or by the inside of the tub not being cleaned properly. Use only High-Efficiency (HE) detergent as directed. To clean the tub, run a Quick (or Express) cycle with bleach once a month to remove any mold from inside the washer.

Power cord is not properly plugged in: Make sure the plug is securely in a grounded, 3-prong, 120-VAC, 60-Hz outlet.

House fuse is blown or circuit breaker has tripped: Reset the circuit breaker or replace the fuse. If the problem is a circuit overload, have it corrected by a qualified electrician. If multiple appliances are on one outlet, call an electrician to have an additional circuit installed.

Washer is too cold: If the washer has been exposed to freezing temperatures, allow it to warm up before pressing the POWER button. Otherwise, the display may not come on.

Kinked drain hose: Make sure the drain hose is not kinked.

Drain is too high or far away: Ensure the drain hose is no higher than 39 inches above the bottom of the washer and no more than 5 feet away.

Water supply is off: Turn both hot and cold faucets fully on.

Control panel timed out: The panel may have powered off due to inactivity. Press the POWER button to turn it on.

Washer is unplugged: Make sure the cord is plugged securely into a working outlet.

Controls not set properly: Ensure the cycle was set correctly, close the lid, and press the START/PAUSE button.

Lid is open: The washer will not operate if the lid is open. Close it and make sure nothing is preventing it from closing completely.

Circuit breaker/fuse is tripped: Check house circuit breakers/fuses. The washer should be on a dedicated branch circuit.

Controls need to be reset: Press the POWER button, re-select the cycle, and press the START/PAUSE button.

START/PAUSE not pressed: The washer will shut off if the START/PAUSE button isn’t pressed within ten minutes of setting a cycle.

Delay Start is active: If the washer is running under the Delay Start program, it will start automatically after the delay time is over. This is normal.

Filter clogged: Disassemble the water inlet hose and clean the inlet point.

Inlet hoses may be kinked: Check that the inlet hoses are not kinked or clogged.

Insufficient water supply: Make sure that both hot and cold water faucets are turned on all the way. Also, check another faucet in the house to ensure household water pressure is adequate.

The washer lid is open: The washer will not fill if the lid is open. Close it completely.

Hot and cold inlet hoses are reversed: Check the inlet hose connections. The hot water supply must be connected to the hot inlet valve, and the cold water supply to the cold inlet valve.

Water level seems too low: This is a high-efficiency washer. The water will not normally cover the clothes. The fill level is optimized for the best wash performance.

Water inlet valve damaged: If the issue persists, contact customer service for assistance.
