The safety notes in the manual use specific terms to indicate the level of risk:

DANGER!: Indicates a hazard which will cause serious injury or death if precautions are not followed.

WARNING!: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.

CAUTION!: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury.

IMPORTANT: Indicates information that is especially relevant to a problem-free installation and operation.

The refrigerant R600a contained within the LIEBHERR WU 4500 is environmentally friendly, but flammable. Leaking refrigerant can ignite. To prevent possible ignition, you must follow these warnings:

• Keep ventilation openings, in the appliance enclosure or in the built-in structure, clear of obstruction.

• Do not damage the refrigerant circuit.

• Any repairs and work on the appliance should only be performed by the customer service department.

To prevent the risk of child entrapment and suffocation when disposing of an old appliance, please follow these instructions:

• Remove the doors.

• Leave the shelves in place so that children may not easily climb inside.

• Cut off the power cable from the discarded appliance. Discard it separately from the appliance.

• Be sure to follow your local requirements for the disposal of appliances. Contact the trash collection agency in your area for additional information.

To ensure electrical safety, follow these requirements when connecting your LIEBHERR WU 4500:

• Connect the appliance to a 15 amp or 20 amp, 110-120 VAC, circuit which is grounded and protected by a circuit breaker or fuse. A dedicated circuit is recommended to prevent overload.

• The appliance is equipped with a three-prong (grounding) polarized plug. Do not remove the round grounding prong from the plug.

• If you have a two-prong wall receptacle, contact a qualified electrician to have it replaced with a properly grounded three-prong receptacle in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.

• Do not use extension cords or ungrounded (two-prong) adapters.

• Do not use a power cord that is frayed or damaged.

• Do not use a power strip.

Failure to follow these instructions may result in fire, electrical shock, or death.

Please adhere to the following safety guidelines:

• To prevent injury or damage, the appliance should be unpacked and set up by two people.

• If the appliance is damaged on delivery, contact the supplier immediately before connecting it to the power source.

• To protect the appliance from possible damage, allow it to stand for 1/2 to 1 hour in place before turning on the electricity. This allows the refrigerant and system lubrication to reach equilibrium.

• When disconnecting the appliance, always pull the plug; never pull on the cable.

• To avoid a hazard due to instability, the appliance must be fixed in accordance with the instructions.

Proper air flow is crucial for the refrigeration performance of the appliance. To ensure the required air flow through the appliance base, you must install the supplied ventilation grille. Additionally, the supplied foam block must be installed in the opening in the appliance base. Failure to install these components may result in poor refrigeration performance.

For a proper installation and to avoid damage to the appliance, please follow these guidelines:

• The floor on which the appliance stands must be horizontal and level.

• The kitchen units must be aligned horizontally and vertically.

• The installation opening should be a minimum of 23-5/8″ (600 mm) and a maximum of 24″ (610 mm) wide.

• The minimum height of the opening should be 32-1/4″ (820 mm).

• The electrical outlet must not be situated behind the appliance and must be easily accessible.

The supplied angle bracket can be installed on the top or bottom of the appliance to cover unwanted openings with a custom panel. The long holes in the bracket allow for adjustment to align the panel with the door front.

Mounting the Panel to the Bracket:

1. Use three 4 x 14 TX 15 screws to mount your custom panel onto the angle bracket.

Mounting the Bracket Assembly to the Appliance:

1. Use two 4 x 19 screws to attach the bracket to the designated holes on the top or bottom of the appliance.

2. Do not tighten the screws completely at first.

3. Adjust the bracket so the front surface of your panel is flush with the appliance door front.

4. Finally, tighten the screws securely.

The supplied dust filter prevents dirt from getting into the motor compartment and must be installed to ensure proper refrigeration performance.

1. Remove the protective film from the dust filter.

2. Insert the filter at the bottom of the appliance base opening.

3. Push the top of the filter until it clicks into place.

Proper venting is required through the toe kick base. A cut-out section must be made in your toe kick panel for the provided ventilation grille.

• The cut-out must be 21-1/4″ (540 mm) wide and 3-11/32″ (85 mm) high.

• The cut-out must be centered in relation to the appliance and positioned in the uppermost part of the toe kick.

Follow these steps to correctly install the appliance:

1. Open the door and remove the top left cover on the appliance body.

2. Apply the supplied cover strips to the leading edge of the appliance housing on both the left and right sides. Ensure the bottom of the strip is in line with the bottom edge of the housing.

3. Adjust the height of the appliance by turning the adjustable feet with the supplied wrench. Leave a gap of approximately 1/8″ between the appliance top (or top cover panel, if installed) and the underside of the countertop.

4. Carefully slide the appliance into the opening until the front surface of the appliance door is flush with the cabinet fronts. Be careful not to damage the power cord while sliding it in.

5. Screw the appliance to the cabinet body at the top left-hand side using a 4 x 29 screw. Click the cover back into place.

6. Screw the appliance to the cabinet body at the bottom on both the left and right sides using two 4 x 29 screws.

7. Insert the foam block approximately 1/2″ into the opening in the appliance base. It is important that the foam block is installed for optimal performance.

8. Insert the supplied ventilation grille into the cut-out in your toe kick panel.

9. Fit the toe kick panel into place. As you do this, the foam block will be pushed backward into its final position. The foam block must be touching the ventilation grille.

Important: The appliance must be aligned horizontally and vertically. If it is not level, the main body can become deformed and the door will not close properly.

Changing the door hinges should only be done by a trained expert and requires two people.

1. Remove the screw from the top hinge.

2. Remove the screw from the bottom hinge.

3. Have another person hold the door securely. Pull out the bottom hinge pin.

4. Remove the upper hinge pin.

5. Move the door towards the appliance until the pin in the hinge bracket is visible, then remove the door.

6. Remove the cover from the top of the door.

7. Unscrew and remove the door latch.

8. On the door, compress the two long covers on the top and bottom edges, release them, turn them 180°, and click them into place on the opposite side.

9. Click the small cover (from step 6) into place on the now-exposed side of the door.

10. Screw the door latch (from step 7) onto the opposite side.

11. Transfer the door handle and plugs to the opposite side of the door.

12. On the appliance body, remove the hinge covers from the top and bottom.

13. Unscrew and remove the upper hinge bracket (from the top right). This will be refitted on the left at the bottom.

14. Unscrew and remove the lower hinge bracket (from the bottom right). This will be refitted on the left at the top.

15. Remove the upper retaining bracket from the right side and transfer it to the opposite (left) side.

16. Remove the lower retaining bracket from the right side and transfer it to the opposite (left) side.

17. Screw the hinge bracket from the bottom right (step 14) into the top left position.

18. Screw the hinge bracket from the top right (step 13) into the bottom left position.

19. Have the other person help you fit the door onto the newly positioned hinge brackets.

20. With the door open to 90°, insert the top hinge pin. The flat part of the pin should face the appliance. The pin must be fully inserted and not protrude.

21. Insert the bottom hinge pin in the same way.

22. Secure the hinges by screwing in the screws at the top and bottom.

23. Close the door and check that it is aligned with the side walls of the appliance.

24. If the door is at an angle, adjust the lateral tilt. Undo the screws on the hinge brackets slightly, slide the bracket to the right or left to align the door, and then tighten the screws.

25. Fit the covers (from step 12) over the hinges.
