The JURA NESPRESSO N9 consists of the following components:

Warnings:

• Children do not realize the dangers involved in using electric appliances; for this reason, always keep an eye on children when they use electric appliances.

• The machine may only be used by instructed persons.

• Never use a defective machine or a machine with a defective mains cable.

• Never immerse the machine in water.

Precautions:

• Never expose the machine to weather (rain, snow, frost), never touch the machine when your hands are wet.

• Place the machine on a firm, level base that is resistant to any water that may leak. Never stand on hot or warm surfaces (oven hobs). Keep out of the reach of children.

• If you don’t use the machine for a longer time (holidays, etc.), always disconnect the mains cable.

• Always disconnect the mains cable before cleaning the machine.

• When disconnecting the mains cable, never pull on the mains cable or the machine itself.

• Never repair or open the coffee machine yourself. Any repairs may only be carried out by authorized service shops using original spare parts and accessories.

• The machine is connected to the mains supply via a mains cable. Make sure nobody can trip over the mains cable to prevent injuries and protect the machine against damage. Make sure children and pets cannot reach the machine.

• Never put the machine or individual parts of it into a dishwasher.

• Make sure to install the machine at a place with sufficient air circulation to prevent overheating of the machine.

Before first use, ensure you check the mains voltage and electrical fuse. The machine is preset to the correct voltage and requires a 10 Ampère fuse.

1. Actuate the power switch (18) on your JURA NESPRESSO N9.

2. Take out the water tank, rinse it thoroughly with cold tap water, then fill it with fresh, cold water and reinstall it.

3. Use the ON/OFF key to switch on the machine. The display will show SPRACHE / DEUTSCH.

4. Use the arrow keys to select your required language (e.g., ENGLISH).

5. Press the programming key to save the language setting. The display will show FILL SYSTEM – PRESS P.

6. Press the programming key. The display will show SYSTEM FILLING, then MACHINE HEATING.

7. The display will show RINSE – PRESS DRAW-OFF KEY. Place a cup under the coffee spout and press one of the draw-off keys (small or large cup).

8. The machine will rinse, and the display will show RINSING.

9. Once complete, the display will show READY. Your JURA NESPRESSO N9 is now ready for use.

Before first use, you must adjust the water hardness setting. The JURA NESPRESSO N9 has 5 hardness degrees. The machine is factory-set to Level 3. To change it, follow these steps:

1. Switch on the machine with the ON/OFF key.

2. After the machine heats and rinses, it will display READY.

3. Press the programming key until the machine enters programming mode (display shows FILTER).

4. Press the arrow keys until the display shows HARDNESS.

5. Press the programming key to activate the step. The current level (e.g., LEVEL 3) will be displayed.

6. Use the arrow keys to select the required hardness level (e.g., LEVEL 4).

7. Press the programming key to confirm your setting. The display will show HARDNESS.

8. Press the arrow keys until the display shows EXIT.

9. Press the programming key to quit programming mode. The display will show READY.

Note: This function is not available if you use a Claris plus filter cartridge.

If you install the Claris plus filter cartridge, de-scaling the JURA NESPRESSO N9 is no longer required.

1. Switch on the machine and wait until it is READY.

2. Remove the cartridge holder from the water tank. Carefully install the filter cartridge into the cartridge holder.

3. Move back the cartridge holder until it engages audibly.

4. Fill the water tank with cold, fresh tap water and install it again.

5. Press the programming key until the machine switches to programming mode (display shows FILTER).

6. Press the programming key to activate the step. The display will show NO.

7. Press the arrow keys until the message YES appears.

8. Press the programming key to confirm. The display will show VALVE / OPEN.

9. Place a sufficiently large container (approx. 1 litre) under the hot water jet and switch the hot water / steam valve to Hot Water / Steam.

10. The display will show FILTER / RINSING. The water draw-off operation stops automatically.

11. The display will show VALVE / CLOSE. Turn back the hot water / steam valve to Coffee.

12. The display will show READY. You have now activated the filter. The water may be slightly coloured, which is not harmful.

When the filter needs replacing, the display will show READY / FILTER.

1. With the display showing FILTER / READY, press the programming key until the machine switches to programming mode (display shows FILTER).

2. Press the programming key to activate the step. The display will show REPLACE.

3. Remove the water tank and replace the Claris plus cartridge with a new one.

4. Fill the water tank with cold, fresh tap water and install it again.

5. Press the programming key. The display will show VALVE / OPEN.

6. Place a sufficiently large container (approx. 1 litre) under the hot water nozzle and switch the hot water / steam valve to Hot Water / Steam.

7. The display will show FILTER / RINSING. The water draw-off stops automatically.

8. The display will show VALVE / CLOSE. Turn back the hot water / steam valve to Coffee.

9. The display will show READY. The water may be slightly coloured, which is not harmful.

1. Use the ON/OFF key to switch on the machine. It will heat up and perform a rinse cycle.

2. Once the display shows READY, open the cover and install a capsule.

3. The display will show COVER / CLOSE. Close the cover again. The display will show READY.

4. Place a cup under the coffee spout and press the required draw-off key (SMALLCUP or LARGECUP).

5. The display will show SMALLCUP or LARGECUP while your espresso is being prepared.

6. After the coffee is dispensed, the display shows EJECT CAPSULE. Open the cover to eject the used capsule.

7. The display shows COVER / CLOSE. Close the cover again. The display will show READY.

You can stop the draw-off operation at any time by pressing any key.

Install the hot water jet to obtain perfect water flow. Be aware that the hot water jet may heat up and there can be splashing at the start.

1. Switch on the machine and wait for it to heat up and rinse. The display will show READY.

2. Place a cup under the hot water jet.

3. Turn the hot water / steam valve to the Hot Water / Steam position.

4. The display shows WATER / PORTION as the programmed portion is prepared.

5. When finished, the display shows VALVE / CLOSE.

6. Turn back the hot water / steam valve to the Coffee position. The display will show READY.

You can stop the water draw-off operation by turning the valve back to the Coffee position at any time.

Install the steam/frothing jet first. Be aware that the steam jet becomes hot. Push the frothing aid down to froth liquids or up to heat liquids.

1. Switch on the machine and wait for it to be READY.

2. Press the steam draw-off key. The display shows MACHINE HEATING, then STEAM / READY.

3. Immerse the frothing aid in the milk or liquid to be heated.

4. Turn the hot water / steam valve to the Hot Water / Steam position.

5. The display shows STEAM / PORTION while the product is being prepared.

6. When finished, the display shows VALVE / CLOSE.

7. Turn back the hot water / steam valve to the Coffee position. The display shows STEAM / READY.

If you do not draw off steam within 1 minute, steam draw-off mode is deactivated.

To deactivate steam draw-off mode and prepare the machine for making coffee again:

1. Press the steam draw-off key again. The display will show VALVE / OPEN.

2. Place a cup under the steam/hot frothing jet.

3. Turn the hot water / steam valve to the Hot Water / Steam position.

4. The machine will cool down, displaying MACHINE COOLING.

5. When cooling is complete, the display will show VALVE / CLOSE.

6. Turn back the hot water / steam valve to the Coffee position.

7. The display will show READY, indicating the machine is ready to make coffee.

To draw off hot milk:

1. First, activate the steam draw-off mode (see “Drawing off steam”).

2. Turn the selector valve (1) on the frother to area (3) to draw off hot milk.

3. Now draw off hot milk by turning the hot water / steam valve to the Hot Water / Steam position.

To draw off frothed milk for cappuccino:

1. Activate the steam draw-off mode.

2. Turn the selector valve (1) on the frother to area (2) to draw off frothed milk.

3. Now draw off frothed milk by turning the hot water / steam valve to the Hot Water / Steam position.

4. To draw off coffee again, you must first activate Coffee Ready mode (see “Returning to Coffee Ready”).

5. Turn the selector switch (1) to the horizontal position.

As soon as you have frothed enough milk, it is important to clean the Professional Cappuccino Frother. Fill a jug with water and immerse the intake-tube in the water. Now draw off steam until the water/steam mixture flowing into your cup is completely clean. Your Professional Cappuccino Frother is now clean.

For a more thorough cleaning if you do not achieve optimum results, remove the Professional Cappuccino Frother, disassemble the flow controller and the selector lever, and thoroughly rinse these parts with water.

You can permanently set the amount of water for your coffee.

1. Switch on the machine and wait until it is READY.

2. Place a cup under the coffee spout.

3. Press and hold the draw-off key (SMALLCUP or LARGECUP) you wish to program until the display shows ENOUGH / COFFEE?.

4. The machine will start dispensing coffee.

5. As soon as the desired quantity of coffee is in the cup, press the draw-off key again to stop.

6. The display will show READY. This quantity is now saved for that key.

To enter programming mode, switch on your JURA NESPRESSO N9, wait until it displays READY, then press the programming key. The display will show FILTER. Use the arrow keys to navigate between different settings (STEAM, WATER, TIME, DRAWOFFS, DECALC., LANGUAGE, EXIT). Press the programming key to select and modify a setting.

Programming the steam portion:

1. Navigate to STEAM and press the programming key. The display shows 20 SEC.

2. Use the arrow keys to adjust the seconds for steam duration.

3. Press the programming key to confirm.

Programming the water portion:

1. Navigate to WATER and press the programming key. Display shows VALVE / OPEN.

2. Turn the hot water / steam valve to the Hot Water / Steam position. Display shows ENOUGH / WATER?.

3. When the desired water quantity is drawn off, turn the valve back to the Coffee position.

Programming the time:

1. Navigate to TIME and press the programming key. Display shows CLOCK.

2. Press programming key again to set hours. Use arrows to adjust hours, then press programming key to save.

3. Use arrows to adjust minutes, then press programming key to confirm.

Programming the automatic switch-on time:

1. Navigate to TIME, press programming key. Use arrows until AUTO ON is displayed.

2. Press programming key to set hours. Adjust with arrows, press key to save.

3. Adjust minutes with arrows, press key to confirm.

Programming the automatic switch-off time:

1. Navigate to TIME, press programming key. Use arrows until AUTO OFF is displayed.

2. Press programming key to enter setting. Display shows 5 HRS.

3. Use arrows to adjust the switch-off time (0.5 to 8 hours, or —:— to disable). Press key to confirm.

1. Turn on the machine and wait until the display shows READY.

2. Press the programming key to enter programming mode.

To check the cup counter:

3. Use the arrow keys until the display shows DRAWOFFS.

4. Press the programming key. The display will show the total draw-offs for the small cup.

5. Press the other draw-off keys to see their corresponding counts.

6. Press the programming key to exit the counter display.

To check the number of de-scaling operations:

3. Use the arrow keys until the display shows DECALC.

4. Press the programming key. The display will show the total number of de-scaling operations performed.

5. Press the programming key to exit the display.

Finally, use the arrow keys to navigate to EXIT and press the programming key to quit programming mode.

• Never use scrapers, abrasive cloths, sponges, or caustic chemicals for cleaning.

• Clean the inside and outside of the case using a soft, moist cloth.

• Clean the replaceable hot water jet and steam/frothing jet after each use.

• After heating milk, draw off some water to clean the inside of the pivoting jet.

• Disassemble the steam/frothing jet for proper cleaning.

• Clean the display dialog system / control panel with a micro-fibre cloth.

• The water tank should be rinsed daily and refilled with fresh water.

• If lime-scaling forms in the tank, remove it using a commercial de-scaling agent. When de-scaling the water tank, take it out of the machine.

• Remove the Claris plus filter cartridge, if applicable, before de-scaling the water tank.

The machine will inform you when de-scaling is needed by displaying SCALED / READY. The process takes about 40 minutes and should not be interrupted.

1. With the SCALED / READY message displayed, switch off the machine using the ON/OFF key.

2. Take out and empty the water tank.

3. Press the programming key until the display shows TRAY / EMPTY.

4. Take out the tray, empty it, and reinstall it. The display shows FILL IN AGENT – PRESS P.

5. Completely dissolve JURA de-scaling tablets (3 tablets) or 1 pack of NESPRESSO De-scaling Kit in 0.5 litres of water and fill the mixture into the water tank. Reinstall the tank.

6. Press the programming key. Display shows VALVE / OPEN.

7. Put a large container under the hot water jet and turn the hot water / steam valve to Hot Water / Steam.

8. The machine de-scales (DISPLAY MACHINE / DECALC.). This happens in several stages, and you will be prompted to turn the valve to Coffee (VALVE / CLOSE) and back to Steam (VALVE / OPEN) during the process.

9. The machine will prompt EMPTY / TRAY. Take out, empty, and reinstall the tray.

10. The machine will prompt FILL / WATER. Thoroughly rinse the water tank, fill it with fresh cold tap water, and reinstall it.

11. The display shows P-TASTE. Press the programming key.

12. The machine will rinse itself, again prompting you to open and close the valve and empty the tray.

13. When finished, the display will show READY, and the machine will switch off automatically after a few seconds.

Preheating cups: You can preheat your cups using hot water or steam from the machine. The smaller the coffee you want to draw off, the more important preheating is.

Sugar and cream: Stirring coffee/tea will result in heat being released. Adding refrigerated cream or milk will reduce the temperature of the coffee significantly.
