Before first use, ensure you check the mains voltage and electrical fuse. The machine is preset to the correct voltage and requires a 10 Ampère fuse.

1. Actuate the power switch (18) on your JURA NESPRESSO N9.

Before first use, you must adjust the water hardness setting. The JURA NESPRESSO N9 has 5 hardness degrees. The machine is factory-set to Level 3. To change it, follow these steps:

1. Switch on the machine with the ON/OFF key.

2. After the machine heats and rinses, it will display READY.

3. Press the programming key until the machine enters programming mode (display shows FILTER).

4. Press the arrow keys until the display shows HARDNESS.

2. Remove the cartridge holder from the water tank. Carefully install the filter cartridge into the cartridge holder.

3. Move back the cartridge holder until it engages audibly.

4. Fill the water tank with cold, fresh tap water and install it again.

5. Press the programming key until the machine switches to programming mode (display shows FILTER).

6. Press the programming key to activate the step. The display will show NO.

7. Press the arrow keys until the message YES appears.

8. Press the programming key to confirm. The display will show VALVE / OPEN.

9. Place a sufficiently large container (approx. 1 litre) under the hot water jet and switch the hot water / steam valve to Hot Water / Steam.

10. The display will show FILTER / RINSING. The water draw-off operation stops automatically.

11. The display will show VALVE / CLOSE. Turn back the hot water / steam valve to Coffee.

12. The display will show READY. You have now activated the filter. The water may be slightly coloured, which is not harmful.


How do I replace the Claris plus filter cartridge on my JURA NESPRESSO N9?

When the filter needs replacing, the display will show READY / FILTER.

1. With the display showing FILTER / READY, press the programming key until the machine switches to programming mode (display shows FILTER).

2. Press the programming key to activate the step. The display will show REPLACE.

3. Remove the water tank and replace the Claris plus cartridge with a new one.

4. Fill the water tank with cold, fresh tap water and install it again.

5. Press the programming key. The display will show VALVE / OPEN.

6. Place a sufficiently large container (approx. 1 litre) under the hot water nozzle and switch the hot water / steam valve to Hot Water / Steam.

1. Use the ON/OFF key to switch on the machine. It will heat up and perform a rinse cycle.

2. Once the display shows READY, open the cover and install a capsule.

3. The display will show COVER / CLOSE. Close the cover again. The display will show READY.

4. Place a cup under the coffee spout and press the required draw-off key (SMALLCUP or LARGECUP).

5. The display will show SMALLCUP or LARGECUP while your espresso is being prepared.

6. After the coffee is dispensed, the display shows EJECT CAPSULE. Open the cover to eject the used capsule.

Install the hot water jet to obtain perfect water flow. Be aware that the hot water jet may heat up and there can be splashing at the start.

1. Switch on the machine and wait for it to heat up and rinse. The display will show READY.

2. Place a cup under the hot water jet.

3. Turn the hot water / steam valve to the Hot Water / Steam position.

4. The display shows WATER / PORTION as the programmed portion is prepared.

5. When finished, the display shows VALVE / CLOSE.

6. Turn back the hot water / steam valve to the Coffee position. The display will show READY.

Install the steam/frothing jet first. Be aware that the steam jet becomes hot. Push the frothing aid down to froth liquids or up to heat liquids.

1. Switch on the machine and wait for it to be READY.

2. Press the steam draw-off key. The display shows MACHINE HEATING, then STEAM / READY.

3. Immerse the frothing aid in the milk or liquid to be heated.

4. Turn the hot water / steam valve to the Hot Water / Steam position.

As soon as you have frothed enough milk, it is important to clean the Professional Cappuccino Frother. Fill a jug with water and immerse the intake-tube in the water. Now draw off steam until the water/steam mixture flowing into your cup is completely clean. Your Professional Cappuccino Frother is now clean.

For a more thorough cleaning if you do not achieve optimum results, remove the Professional Cappuccino Frother, disassemble the flow controller and the selector lever, and thoroughly rinse these parts with water.

You can permanently set the amount of water for your coffee.

1. Switch on the machine and wait until it is READY.

2. Place a cup under the coffee spout.

The machine will inform you when de-scaling is needed by displaying SCALED / READY. The process takes about 40 minutes and should not be interrupted.

1. With the SCALED / READY message displayed, switch off the machine using the ON/OFF key.

2. Take out and empty the water tank.

3. Press the programming key until the display shows TRAY / EMPTY.

4. Take out the tray, empty it, and reinstall it. The display shows FILL IN AGENT – PRESS P.

5. Completely dissolve JURA de-scaling tablets (3 tablets) or 1 pack of NESPRESSO De-scaling Kit in 0.5 litres of water and fill the mixture into the water tank. Reinstall the tank.

6. Press the programming key. Display shows VALVE / OPEN.

7. Put a large container under the hot water jet and turn the hot water / steam valve to Hot Water / Steam.

8. The machine de-scales (DISPLAY MACHINE / DECALC.). This happens in several stages, and you will be prompted to turn the valve to Coffee (VALVE / CLOSE) and back to Steam (VALVE / OPEN) during the process.

9. The machine will prompt EMPTY / TRAY. Take out, empty, and reinstall the tray.

10. The machine will prompt FILL / WATER. Thoroughly rinse the water tank, fill it with fresh cold tap water, and reinstall it.

11. The display shows P-TASTE. Press the programming key.

12. The machine will rinse itself, again prompting you to open and close the valve and empty the tray.

13. When finished, the display will show READY, and the machine will switch off automatically after a few seconds.


What are some tips for making perfect coffee with the JURA NESPRESSO N9?

Preheating cups: You can preheat your cups using hot water or steam from the machine. The smaller the coffee you want to draw off, the more important preheating is.

Sugar and cream: Stirring coffee/tea will result in heat being released. Adding refrigerated cream or milk will reduce the temperature of the coffee significantly.
