The JET JAT-104 should be lubricated daily or before each use. During continual operation, it should be re oiled every 1 to 2 hours. If done manually, follow these steps:

Step 1. Disconnect the air hose from the tool.

Step 2. Place 4 or 5 drops of air tool oil into the air inlet. SAE #10 oil or sewing machine oil may be used as a substitute, but do not use detergent oil.

Step 3. Re-connect the air supply.

Step 4. Run the JET JAT-104 at low throttle without load for a few seconds to distribute the oil throughout the tool.

Step 5. When finished operating, disconnect the air hose, wipe off the housing with a dry cloth, place 4 or 5 drops of air tool oil into the air inlet, re-connect the air, and run the tool for a few seconds to distribute the oil. Finally, disconnect the air.

Always wear approved safety glasses or a face shield. Wear ear protectors if noise exceeds safe levels. If operation produces sparks or flying particles, wear tight fitting gloves and protective clothing, keeping hands and body away from the tool’s working area. Never operate the tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry, and confine long hair. Adopt a comfortable posture with proper balance and secure footing. Always ensure the tool is switched off and your finger is off the trigger before connecting to the air supply. Disconnect the tool from the air source when not in use. Shut off the air supply and discharge residual pressure before removing the hose or making adjustments.

Step 1. Ensure the JET JAT-104 is properly lubricated as described in the lubrication section.

Step 2. Remove the protective cap from the air inlet.

Step 3. If an in-line oiler is not being used, add 4 or 5 drops of air tool oil into the air inlet.

Step 4. Blow out the air line to remove any dirt or moisture, then connect the air supply hose to the tool. Set the air pressure to 90 psi.

Step 5. Push the required drive socket onto the anvil until it clicks into position.

Step 6. Rotate the regulator dial to your preferred setting. Note that regulator settings are for reference only and do not indicate specific power settings. Rotate right for forward direction (3 speeds) or rotate left for reverse (1 speed).

Step 1. Select reverse rotation using the regulator dial.

Step 2. Place the socket over the nut, hold the grip firmly, and place your other hand over the top of the housing. Gently squeeze the trigger.

Step 3. If the JET JAT-104 cannot loosen the nut, do not raise air pressure above 90 psi. If the tool’s air regulator is in a low setting, raise the setting and retry. If the regulator is already at maximum, do not continue attempts to loosen the nut with this tool; use other methods or tools.

Step 4. Release the trigger to stop the tool.

Step 1. Install the nut as far as possible by hand.

Step 2. Select forward rotation using the regulator dial.

Step 3. Place the socket over the nut, hold the grip firmly, and place your other hand over the top of the housing. Gently squeeze the trigger.

Step 4. If the JET JAT-104 stalls while tightening, do not raise air pressure above 90 psi. If the air regulator is in a low setting, raise the setting and retry. If the nut will not tighten on the maximum setting, do not continue attempts to tighten with this tool; use other methods or tools.

Step 5. Release the trigger to stop the tool. Note: Do not overtighten; use a torque wrench for fasteners with critical torque settings.

If the JET JAT-104 will not start, check for the following:

Air valve closed or obstructed: Open the valve and clear any obstructions.
Dirt or gum deposits on components: Flush the tool with gum solvent. If the problem persists, disassemble, clean, and lubricate internal parts.
Rotor vanes or other components are worn: Replace the worn components. Vanes must be replaced as an entire set.
Trigger inoperable: Clean the trigger mechanism to ensure free movement or replace the mechanism if needed.
Bearing(s) worn: Disassemble and inspect the bearing; grease or replace as needed.

If the JET JAT-104 has loss of power or erratic action, check for the following:

Low air pressure: Verify the compressor has the proper CFM rating for the tool, check the compressor regulator setting, set the air pressure to 90 psi, set the regulator dial on the tool to the maximum setting, and check for loose connections.
Moisture or obstruction in air hose: The air supply must be clean and dry. Clean out the air hose(s) and remove any kinks or bends.
Improper size of air transmission lines, hoses, fittings, or couplings: Use appropriate-sized air lines/hoses and verify proper fittings/couplings.
Dirt or gum deposits on components: Flush the tool with gum solvent, check and clean the air filter on the compressor, and clean the external areas of the tool. If the problem persists, disassemble, clean, and lubricate internal parts.
Rotor vanes are worn: Replace the vanes as an entire set.
